  • So far I’ve roasted about 7 batches on the Cormorant CR600 Coffee Roaster and I love it! Such amazing craftsmanship and consistent roasts. Customer service is also top notch.
    600g batches yield approximately 17-18oz of roasted coffee. Average roast times for 600g are at 12-13 minutes. Beans are completely cool from 2-3 minutes.
    I do not sell Cormorant Coffee Roasters. For pricing and information contact: johan@cormorantroasters.co.uk

    By far the best priced quality roaster at this capacity. Shame on the USA manufactures, building bulky machines and not offering a quality 1lb+ roaster like this one.

    Hi - just picked up my Cormorant yesterday - also have some Brazil pulped natural - any thoughts on a roast profile? Thanks Philip

      Philip Sowels charge at 180, aim for first crack around 8:30-10:00. Develop for 2.75 - 3.00 minutes. Cool roast at the very start of 2nd crack 210ish. Make sure to lower the heat from full blast to 2.5 around 160. Close the diffuser at 180. When first crack starts rolling lower the heat to 1.5. At the beginning of the roast keep your fan around five. Towards the end of the roast you want your fan speed at 10 or nine.

    hi, thanks for this video. What do you recommend the Kaldi Wide or Cormorant as the first roaster to learn to roast and control various variables? How about the quality of the cormorant and its controls? thanks for your input

    Can you provide any insight into why you went with this roaster rather than another Kaldi model like the fortis? I know you were previously roasting on the Kaldi Wide.

    • @downonluck59
      @downonluck59  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I was really considering the Kaldi Fortis. I ended up going with the Cormorant because of the customer service and the all-in-one package. I would’ve had to buy a new burner and cooling tray with the Kaldi. The Cormorant actually ended up being a little cheaper. Super happy with it still. About 400+ roasts in. Still on my second tank of propane 😂

    Do you record the "first" crack as the first crack? I was taught FC starts when you hear 3 cracks in 5 seconds. A single lone crack could be a bean that's a bit off.

    • @downonluck59
      @downonluck59  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      jakke I record 1st crack after a hear a few pops.

      @@downonluck59 That CR600 looks like a nice roaster, very tempted to get one myself. What do you think about reliability and longevity?
      Was looking at the hottop 2k+ for about the same price as well but a) it's electric b) only does 300g and c) only rated for "home use", so I doubt it's good for longevity if you regularly roast more than a few batches. The CR600 seems like a more robust roaster that will stand the test of time a good bit better... but that's just first impressions, I've never actually seen one IRL.

    Nice video! Mine just arrived... I see you’ve a standard 20lb propane tank... and some type of rubber hose with a clamp to the gas intake on the roaster - may I ask what you used for components to go from your gas tank to the roaster? (Hopefully something I can pick up something at Ace Hardware tomorrow to avoid that one last roast with the Behmor :). Thanks!! - JQ

      John Quinn hey! Congrats! I actually received a standard US fitting from Johan a year or so ago. Much more safe now. From my understanding, all new North American units are shipped with this. You’ll still need to get a 0-20 PSI regulator hose. I ordered mine off amazon for $20. The regulator attaches to the tank and the hose attaches to the roaster. This is very similar to what I have. www.amazon.com/DOZYANT-Pressure-Propane-Adjustable-Regulator/dp/B01J63DYI6/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=0-20+psi+propane+regulator&qid=1594429124&sprefix=0-20+psi+&sr=8-3

      You can roast more per batch with the cormorant. Currently I’m roasting 700g batches

  • @fluttuers2820
    @fluttuers2820 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What do you think of the roaster so far? Are you able to reach first crack faster than 8 minutes? Is the burner adequate?

    • @downonluck59
      @downonluck59  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Flu Ttuers, still love the roaster. Depending on charge temp, bean, and batch size you can definitely hit first crack before 8 minutes. With a full 600g batch I average 8-8:30 for 1st crack now. They burner is very efficient in heat and gas consumption. I’ve roasted over 200 batches on a single propane tank. Still haven’t ran out of gas.

      @@downonluck59 Very nice. I got a huky about a month ago. Still trying to get a handle on the burner and what not. I kinda wish i had went with the cormorant but i couldn't find many people that actually owned one. Also not sure what shipping would be like to the US.

    any updates? issues? Ive contacted Johan and about to place order. Not sure what color though. The stainless steel is a clean look

    • @downonluck59
      @downonluck59  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eugene Kong the only issues I’ve experienced were the safety thermocouple failing and the fan potentiometer. The safety thermocouple keeps the gas flowing to the burner. Mine burnt out because it was too far into the flame. He’s updated the placement of it for new units. Regardless it’s just a $10 or so part. The fan potentiometer that regulates the voltage was acting weird so Johan sent me a newer one and I’ve had no issues for over 250+ roasts. I think it’s a wonderful machine! Great customer service too!

      Brad Reyburn I still LOVE the machine. The craftsmanship that went into building this is incredible and Johan has excellent customer service. Ultimately, it seems he’s more interested in providing a superior product than making a huge profit. Currently I roast about 4-6 pounds a week and it is incredibly consistent. I’ve also roasted 230g batches (8oz) that were very evenly roasted.
