    Petrol prices pushing you towards an EV? 😅

    • @pqvid
      @pqvid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CathodeRayNipplez Well, if you compare new to new, nobody is giving you a petrol X3 for free, right? And you still need to pay for petrol. If you own a house, you can have your own electricity from a PV system. I don't know any way how you could produce your own petrol.
      I'm a petrol head myself, and I still have a track car for track duties. But for my daily driving -- and trips! -- I've been happily using EVs for over 4 years now. It's cheaper, more fun, saves time -- and not the least, better for the environment. It's a win-win, just give it a try! ;)

    • @dstfno
      @dstfno 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pqvid The EV model is so much more expensive than the petrol version that even at current gas prices it's cheaper in the end.

    • @pqvid
      @pqvid 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@dstfno You're probably comparing a "naked" X3 20i to the iX3, which only exists in two versions: "almost fully equipped" and "fully equipped". Configure the same options on the gas X3 and you'll see that the iX3 is actually _cheaper_ than any other motor version of X3, while being one of the most powerful (besides the 40i and X3M). So yes, I would say it's fairly priced.

    • @dstfno
      @dstfno 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pqvid No, I did not mean the naked 20i, one with the same options is still 6K cheaper. Add to that the money you have to spend on solar panels to allow free charging and you are way better off with a gasoline car (I know, cause I've been there). But I can agree on the fact it's fairly priced when compared to some other EVs, even when compared to its IVE equivalent.

    • @lordfluxington
      @lordfluxington 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dstfno That's clearly not the case. I've had solar panels for eight years, and the money I've saved just through reduced HOME power bills has almost paid for it. Also, in WA the equivalent M sport variants are MORE EXPENSIVE than the full EV. IT'S EASILY ACCESSIBLE ON THEIR WEBSITE!... xDrive30e PHEV = $123k, xDrive30d diesel = $115k, xDrive30i Petrol = $109k, sDrive20d = $102k, sDrive20i = $100k, and the M sport EV version is ONLY $99k. Throw in the federal government's novated lease EV rebates and it's a no brainer. BMW are one of the best in the business with price parity. Some other manufacturers are terrible though, I'm looking at you Volvo!

  • @pqvid
    @pqvid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great review! Just one point with "untangle this mess of charging cables" -- I'm just imagining myself an EV driver opening the gas nozzle before inserting it into the tank. You can make a mess out of everything if you want. I keep my cables tied up and rolled nicely, it's not hard to do at all. In fact, if you do it more than once you will find your way of doing it properly, before you need to undo the mess next time you charge.
    And BTW, you don't need more than one cable (type 2) regularly anyways.
    As to the price: compared to other X3 models with the same level of equipment, the iX3 is the cheapest X3! So yes, it's expensive. But BMW is not exactly known for undercutting the competition on price ;)

    How long would the EVs last? Are the batteries replaceable? How many kms till the battery start to loose its efficiency n reduces its range? What after that [80,000+ miles]? How much valve would the car hold?
    These are my concerns regarding EVs and no one’s addressed it.

    • @pqvid

      There have been quite a few Teslas over a million miles. I can tell you from mine -- 50K km, it took a hit of 5% during the first year, and stayed there afterwards for another two years. No need to worry, really.

      @@oldcodger5730 in WA it's Natural Gas. You're right about east coast though, but you have to start somewhere don't you? Things will change, but not overnight. Also, EVs are FAR better for your local air quality. That means, yes dirty coal may have generated the power, but the air where you live and drive, where your kids play, is cleaner.

    I4 edrive40 has range and also lots of power. Ix3 suv format eats up battery fast.

    • @pqvid
      @pqvid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really. The consumption is almost equal to an i4. I can only compare iX3 to a Tesla Model 3 (LR), and I was very surprised that the iX3 has only about 10% higher consumption. I was expecting much, much higher. From the long range driving point of view, the Model 3 and iX3 are basically identical.
