    Premium electric SUV buyers are spoilt for choice at the moment with a whole load of posh pure EV high-riders on sale.
    It's fair to say, however, that BMW has been a bit slow to catch on in this part of the market. Mercedes and Audi have had their models, the EQC and e-tron respectively, on sale for a while now, and Jaguar beat all of them by introducing its I-Pace first.
    The new iX3 is the car BMW hopes to gain some lost ground on its rivals, but can it beat our favourite, the Jag I-Pace. Both do similar things and are appealing to similar customers but they are quite different in approach. Which one is best? Ginny Buckley finds out.

    As an I Pace owner for the last year, I have to agree with Ginny… it is fast, exciting, powerful, sporty, has brilliant road holding, a superb interior and now after 3 years since launch, the only car to beat it is the Taycan but I much prefer the SUV style as I have always had SUVs. Jaguar have nailed it with the I Pace, it’s a rocket ship that handles like a high performance car! Absolutely nothing out there could tempt me otherwise as an EV and in White with the Panoramic Roof, the Black Pack & the obscenely large 22” Diamond Cut Alloys…. It’s just unbeatable 🇬🇧 👍 here, here Jaguar 👏👏👏👏

      You are obviously wedded to your much loved car but for most people it is already looking like a ‘bubble’ car. Just as Nissan never followed up with the Leaf, Jaguar haven’t pushed on with the i-Pace. Sub-contracting the manufacturing to Steyr tells you all you need to know about their ambitions. In 2018 I thought it was brilliant that they had built a proper EV on an EV only platform, unlike the offerings from Merc/BMW/Audi (their main competitors) at the time. But they never followed up and are now being comprehensively outsold by those brands EVs. Where is the cheaper RWD option? Where the software upgrades and the range improvements? Right now the i-Pace looks to be in a manufacturing dead-end with no derivatives and falling sales. With the Tesla Model Y arriving in Europe now the Jaguar will be further marginalised in this price/category of car. It will undoubtedly become a future classic though and if I had one I would hang on to it!

      Awesome Jag 🤘 I-Pace even beats a Tesla in every area except acceleration, plush luxurious interiors and far better looking.

      @kiae-nirodiariesencore4270 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheCarxpert You’re entitled to your opinion but the facts say otherwise. The Jag was launched in March 2018, that’s 3.5 years ago and cumulative sales have only just reached 45,000. The Tesla model Y sold 76,000 in the first six months of 2021 and was only launched in Spring last year. Ultimately that’s the only area that matters as car companies need to make a profit to keep going. Jaguar are just not serious about EVs and they don’t care about their customers. If they did they would at least join up with the Ionity consortium and negotiate a decent charging price for their customers as Mercedes and BMW have done. Drivers of these premium brands do higher than average miles, they are business execs on the road and need rapid charging which is where the Jag falls flat on its i-Face. For all its design excellence the i-Pace cannot be taken seriously and the low sales figures tell us that is exactly the case.

    When it came to choosing an electric car back in 2019 the iX3 was yet to be released and my short list came down to the EQC, E-Tron or the I-Pace. I watched Ginny's review and she was so in love with the car, it's performance, looks and handling. Qualities the EQC and E-Tron just don't have. Merc and Audi may sell a lot more of their vehicles but space aside, they don't come close to the I-Pace. After 30,000 miles It is still as fun and exciting to drive the I-Pace as the first time I punched the accelerator with the chequered flag on the dashboard. My only surprise is that it hasn't outsold the other 2 cars, I guess its the extra height and badge?

    An interesting comparison of two ‘old world’ brands but unless you are so deeply ingrained with brand snobbery why would you bother with either of them when the brilliant Kia EV6 and now the Tesla Model Y are available in Europe. Let’s see some tests of these two up against the Tesla and the Kia. We know they will lose out on range and outright performance but what about build quality, infotainment, NVH? From the reports I’ve read the Tesla and Kia are a match for these two in those departments as well.

  • @yvesvandenbroek6055

    While on paper the have similar range in real life driving the BMW has more range, way more efficient, and the new facelift makes it a tad more aggressive in the looks department and absolutely trounces the Jag in infotainment systeem, double screen / HUD Apple CarPlay. Take a look at actual long distance travel and you will definitely take the iX3 over the jag anytime of the day ... just simulated some trips with a better route planner 1H20min longer charging in the JAG for a 1250km trip

      But the BMW is so ugly!

    • @marcbungener1877
      @marcbungener1877 ปีที่แล้ว

      the main push-back is the slow recharge time of the Jaguar. The Bjorn Nylan 1’000 km challenges shows that as does your simulation (I also made several of them with ABRPI) But on a more typical 615 km journey where initial range matter more the difference is far smaller so it depends if you travel often long (i.e. 1000 rather than 500 km) distance often.

    😮 my god! Did this woman who makes this review get a free I-Pace, because it really sounds that way. She is missing feedback from the ix3 steering which happens to have the best steering feel of all ev suv cars so far, if you know cars you also know this. Jaguars may have a good a share of the market in the UK also in Australia, but in the rest of the world they do not have that and there’s a reason for that. It is okay to market and favor product’s from the home market, but my good there’s a limit with it also.

    I-PACE is gorgeous but it was borderline outdated when it was released in 2019 and with only minor updates, it's fallen even further behind. EV6 looks similar and the Mustang Mach-E is another good alternative with loads more range.

  • @johnkellett7797
    @johnkellett7797 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Chalk and cheese. The iPace isn’t a traditional SUV (it’s too ‘swoops’ for that moniker), but is a 4x4. The BMW thinks it’s an SUV (and associated box on wheels aerodynamics) but doesn’t have the off road capability of the Jaguar. So why compare them as SUVs?
    No one interested in the Jag would be interested in the BMW and vice versa!

    More like Jaguar lost it, it has largely stagnated for 2 years. Interesting seeing the two i-pace you-tubers both saying this week a number of i-pace drivers are switching to the Kia EV6 as their lease contracts start to come up next year. The Jag is a brilliant car and easily the better of the two. Fast and easy to drive with great looks. As for the infotainment system, that really is not an issue in the real world because once you have set everything up as you want it everything else is straightforward. A BMW made in China is simply not a true BMW.

    Yes I just bought an I pace and this review gets it right. I drove an IX3 and its chalk vs cheese -not even in the same ballpark compared with the I pace.
    What is interesting is that the recent What Car review of the same cars came to the opposite conclusion which shows What Cars bias towards the German cars again -advertising revenue perhaps What car?
    Nevertheless Jaguar, whilst this was way ahead of the pack 3 years ago you are losing your lead. It desperately needs new versions ( and a new name?) More power options such as single motor running for economy , performance version with Tesla top speeds , higher battery charging rate and improved shape ( even though the styling still looks good.)
    It really is not good enough to put on a chrome grill on and a worse Satnav system for the 21MY -it really is not good enough!

    most of the people thinks that EV6 or Ioniq5 has better cabin. No way. IX3 is crazy good, and much better suspension system. On the other had, the Jag has a sporty ride with great heritage. The interior design of the Jag is something that the market is missing: it's art. The korean cheap plastic EV6 or Ioniq5 has no chance. Genesis GV60 Sport is the only car that could beat the germans & the english gentleman Jaguar. I would wait for the best built E-GMP car, and that will be the Genesis by far. IX3 is an underrated sleeper, its a well tested cabin with lots of experience, a no risk buy. Jaguar is a beautiful masterpiece. Ioniq5 is a well constructed average car, and EV6 is a joke with rubbish exterior. I would wait for the EQB. I will probably decide between EQB / IX3 / GV60S. I just need a car around city the close destination points. I will never sell my Lexus fossil V8 for longer journeys... 20minutes charging time is waay too much for me & my familie. people are generally over estimating the korean car industry.

I saw one being used in Poitiers as a taxi the other day and have to say it looks a great car though out of my league on price. The Jaguar brand is in great danger of not making it through the EV revolution, sales are terrible which would be sad considering how early they came with such an excellent car on a purpose built EV platform. Their problem has and always will be generating enough volume to make a margin. They were going to do a pure electric XJ but that project seems to have been canned.

    Anyway, £65k is OK if you are buying through a business so it costs you 50% of that after tax. For retired old codgers like myself it makes no sense at all so I'll just carry on with my gas guzzler!! (we do have a Smart EQ for all the local runs though)

    I agree with Ginny's conclusion, great review. Whilst IX3 is the newest it could be argued its the oldest as its based on the ancient X3. Can't understand why Range Rover aren't producing a version. They vaginally produced the Velar off the back of the F Pace.

    I've never been a fan of Jaguar's rear end on all its new cars - the XF, the XE, the F-Pace and the E-Pace. The I-Pace is no different. I really don't like the design of that rear. So, although it's raved here as the better car, out of these two, I would choose the iX3. In my opinion, it has a more cohesive and natural design overall.

    When people learn it’s built in China and then sold at German built prices they might think again about it plus it’s only two wheeled drive which with the amount of torque their going to put through those front wheels will be dynamite to drive in frosty and snow conditions. This will of course will probably apply to most EVs running two wheel drive in winter conditions because of the way electric motors work,there’s no slipping the clutch to feed the power in slowly the wheels will spin at the first sign of frost and this could be a bit of a problem for drivers who aren’t used to such a sudden power surge. BMW said they would Never sell Chinese built vehicles in Europe they we’re only for the Chinese market,what a joke, it’s so they can undercut Jaguar and others by a couple of grand to get sales,I’ve had new BMs and liked them but I’m not paying German prices for a Chinese vehicle under any circumstances,I don’t care how good they are after what the Chinese inflicted on the world I will NOT buy anything from there knowingly,,,there’s no reason BMW cannot manufacture these vehicles in Germany other than build costs and screwing customers over.

    Unless you're a badge snob get the Ioniq 5 or EV 6, both make the Jag and BMW look dated. They're a lot cheaper have better specs and much better warranties, no brainer.

      @kiae-nirodiariesencore4270 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed. And both Kia and Hyundai rank above both Jag and BMW for reliability. It’s all about EV know-how which the Koreans, Chinese and Tesla have above all other manufacturers. We’ve had a Kia e-Niro for 2 and half years now and 50,000km, it has been faultless. OK, it’s a smaller car at a lower price point than either of these but the build quality and interior are as good if not better than any VW or Toyota I have owned.

      @@MrJtedds Leaving aside the fact that Jaguar struggle to sell over 100,000 cars a year meaning they may well not survive the EV revolution. Real world range test I have read show the i-Pace as struggling to get to 250 miles. Yes it’s a great looking car but the software is crap and an Ioniq 5 or EV6 with their charging speeds will leave an i-Pace at an Ionity charger for 3 times as long. The problem with Jaguar is that like Nissan with the Leaf they haven’t followed up, where’s the cheaper RWD only option? Where’s the infotainment upgrades to at least keep pace with their competition, let alone get anywhere near Tesla? And where the much needed BMS/power electronics improvement to improve the range? As a Brit I always hoped Jaguar would challenge the Germans but its never happened and is never likely to now.

      Yes, and the GT version will come in at BMW/Jag money but with supercar performance. BMW are so off-track until they develop a dedicated EV platform. This is a massive problem for German industry as a whole which has been built on making excellent world beating engines...but who cares now? Nothing can beat the power/weight and torque of an electric motor. Based on the ID3, ID4, e-Tron and Mercedes offerings they are way behind Tesla, HMG and the Chinese at the electric game...which will be the only game in town by end decade.
