Hey I just wanted to say, I have used a similar build to this on Valkyr for years and wanted to point out the biggest weakness of the build since it wasn't mentioned. Ancient Disruptors, especially on steel path difficulty can nuke over 700 energy in one hit ignoring all forms of damage resist, and they magnetic proc you if you don't have the arcane for immunity to it. I would not highly recommend using these builds in say a steel path dark sector survival for resource farming. I love the video and I love these kinds of builds in general, but as with most things, they have their limits.
coming from an other mmo where you only live on health and reduction and just getting deeper into warframe this video was a real game changer in survivability, love the option of a third resource for tanking. also thanks for the in depth explanation
I remember when Rage/Quick Thinking was one of the most popular survivability methods in the game, before self-healing and shield gating were all that widespread. I honestly thought it had dropped off in relevance, but seeing these experiments is giving me a lot of thought for my own builds. Nice work!
I may be wrong, but I think back then the number on Rage was much higher (like 120%) and it was changed to nerf the effect of stacking them. Now that there are more sources of DR and health regen it's probably a lot stronger than it was even say a year ago. I'm sure you can do something hilarious with Citrine using her passive, Gloom lifesteal, Arcane Blessing, Rage, Hunter Adrenaline and Quick Thinking. I'm just not convinced it would end up being actually good lol.
Before Wukong got reworked, his old defiance ability automatically used energy to restore health upon taking fatal damage. it was possible to make him basically unkillable with those mods.
Imagine gauss with this build, with kinetic plating which on itself gives pretty good damage reduction WHILE supplying you with energy so the more damage you take the more energy you gain and the more energy you have the longer you can survive using this with adaptation to gain even more reduction from same type damage which would be good while fighting big hordes of enemies in steelpath it could also be pushed even further with redline to increase damage reduction
Yeah, I do this and it is insane, I also subsume Parasitic Armor onto him as you won't be needing his shields and it can give an insane amount of armor, put the two health to energy and drain energy to reduce damage mod on, as well as shield mods and he is one of the most tanky frames
Okay... I'm a couple of heavily over engineered margaritas in while watching this. But, I'm 100% on board with this. I took a 6 year hiatus from the game, and apparently, my new way of thinking upon returning fits very well with your video. You've given me a shortcut. And, well, thank you. This video earned my subscription. Great job. P.S. I really hope this makes sense. The alcohol is definitely hard to work through.
Man, I'm currently on vacation... There are Beach Bars... I do understand xDDD But jokes aside, I'm happy you liked the vid so much ❤️ Welcome to the Crew :D
Hmm mayhap a equilibrium Atlas would work well with this. Without health and shield mods you could maybe squeeze in path of statues, ore gaze and rubble heap. So build up to over 1400 rubble, then go to town punching. Each punch is free if over 1400 rubble, the punches are making petrify paths, and smashing petrified enemies drops more hp and energy orbs.
It doesn't really work because the 40% efficiency on it doesn't provide value. Even if you have passive health regen the mod slot it takes is too expensive. Assume you have around 400 health, getting taken from max to min only nets you 160 energy, which at best is about 15% more survivability.
There was an oberon build that basically took his concept and made you immortal as long as you had energy or didnt step into a nullifier bubble, basically his 3 gives you a constant health regen so you take rage or adrenaline to sustain your energy and the rest was just max strength, it was funny but quite weak because you did nothing but tank
Fun fact: Styanax can effectively utilize all forms of tanking, however the build will be janky, with a total of 2 required mods and a required subsume: Quick Thinking for energy tanking, Intrepid Stand for Overguard Tanking, and Parasitic Armor for Health Tanking, which obviously means part of the build has to focus to some degree on shields, thus Shield Tanking. Dante CAN do it too, technically, but no way near as effective, since Styanax can get super high shields, giving a better lean for Parasitic Armor. And yes, I will ALWAYS find ways to make atleast 1 build on ANY decently high shield capable frame. So far I have a Chroma, Rhino, Protea, and Hildryn PA build, and will get to Styanax soon. And yes, the PA Hildryn is as weird and janky to play as you can imagine, but 30k armor is nice when you just wanna daka daka for a bit.
Everyone thinks Styanax for over shield but what about his scaling energy regen for energy tanking? I seem to remember that getting real stupid real fast.
So glad to see this method got a buff since I last tried it. It used to stagger you when it hit your energy, so the moment you lost your health you would basically just be frozen in place until you ran out of energy.
This is fun for the memes, but limited mod slots and potentially using up your Helminth slot just to do it usually means your build suffers elsewhere, usually in damage output. With Steel Path content becoming more and more prevalent, I wouldn't really recommend going all-in on a QT build seriously.
Another option to toss increase survivability is to Deaggro. Namely with Dante. He has overguard, energy regen, efficiency and restore from Noctua, healing from light verse and triumph then and most importantly he the ability deaggro via Pageflight (I play him as a summoner so I have up to 20+ targets (including some that draw aggro away from Dante) with very limited energy use. Throw arcane battery on top of his already high energy pool as well as those armor mods and he not only has another level of survivability that is added to his already strong level of base survivability but you end up with a fun play style that is reminiscent of a WOW (at least I think that's the game) class where your life bar and manna bar is the same. This build can be done several ways but my favorite one allows my legion of pets to be the face of a lot of the damage, effects and even if need be my meat shields. It also scales extremely well.
Shield Gating hardly requires mod investment outside of Brief Respite and slightly weaker generalist Augur mods. You might need Catalyzing Shields but that's not an harsh requirement. Energy Tanking is basically an evolution of Health tanking and it requires more hard mod taxes and opportunity costs, so this is completely fine
There! He said it! HE SAID IT! I knew it was good. I use it to turn Warframes which have no business being tanky into tanky powerhouses with just 2 mod slots.. But nobody else was saying it until now.
This can be further amplified with an arcane grace and hunters adrenaline/ rage. Quick thinking keeps you at 2 health while its triggered but any frame could get around this when procing arcane grace for that sweet health regen which gets turned into energy straight away for hunter adreanaline since your shields are depleted most of the time. For the hardcore all in players you can subsume parasitic armor to not have shields at all and just be like an inaros on any frame you don't really intend to properly forma just for EDA.
@@Okaazkul if you read the end of the comment I specifically said for EDA, most of the frames don't have healing abilites. Oberons base sp tanking build is a well known one for over 1 year now and it works well for the first 5-10minutes.
If you really wanna go crazy, use Nourish which scales Hunter Adrenaline and Rage conversion, and swap Arcane Grace for Molt Reconstruct. This with Augur mods gives you the all-important shield gate refresh that stops you getting flat out 1-tapped whilst also allowing health to fully regen you energy and energy to fully regen your health.
@@tomj819 no, energy replanisment from hunters adrenaline with overguard up works only for nidus and inaros, it wasn't implemented as a general thing for everything
It is also good to use this on a frame that doesn’t need energy to sustain their abilities. for example, Gyre with her Cathode Current augment could make her even stronger with energy tanking, as all you need to do is cast her 3 and 4 and then get a ton of kills. the electricity procs will make it harder for enemies to hit her, which makes her take less damage. slap PSF on her so she doesn’t stagger and you’ve got yourself an invincible Gyre.
I know its not quite the same, but I have something similar to this on my Wisp. Quick thinking, Adaptation, Umbral Power and Armor, Carnis Carapace, Hunter Adrenaline, Archon Intensify, and Flow Prime, if I remember my build correctly. Use the healthy flower to get great hp and regen, let everyone bang on your health to give tons of energy, let the resistances of adaptation and the armor stack, regen keeps you topped, and if anything hits you hard enough you just don't die.
So energy tanking +Nourish = immortality . I completely forgot about this, thanks for the reminder! I remember they added a stagger to [Quick thinking], so I stopped using it, but now I might have to check it out again. 🧐
@@hobbit5556because it's increasingly less useful in higher tiers of content unless it's on a frame like Trinity and Garuda and Trinity is basically dead while Garuda can survive fine without it. I'm not saying you're wrong to run it, it's just not that useful in modes where you look down and see 100+ energy disappear due to a nearby enemy, or an enemy type that can for some reason have the ability to deal multi-mil damage
@@VertietRyper well, I do not dwell on high endurance runs, so it doesn’t really matter much to me. But yeah, it can go down fast if the enemy level is a little bit high… or if you’re just bad at positioning yourself. Still, shield gating is superior, but energy shielding is still very fun and underrated for the most part.
@@hobbit5556 I don't do high endurance runs, I'm saying this build is generally useless in the higher content they keep adding solely between the damage output and energy leech stuff (eximus, modifiers, etc) and there's such a point that making a build this tanky actually counteracts your effectiveness in completing missions.
How do you "free up a mod slot" by using a different mod? I don't use Quick Thinking on any builds but Nekros Despoil. In fact, on something like my Trinity EV build (max range and strength, min duration) where I have 0 survivability mods at all, slotting in quick thinking would hurt the build. It's also not at all useful on frames like Revenant or Rhino that are innately tanky. This only seems useful on a frame that wants or has great energy economy, has great abilities at ~100% dur, rng, str & eff, has room for a helminth slot in those abilities, and is really squishy. I'm having a hard time thinking of frames where that's the case (Nekros kind of, Limbo, maybe Xaku). It's a super cool mechanic, and I appreciate all the effort you put into making the video! Keep up the good work!
Be sure to keep on your toes guys, if you take a big enough hit it will instantly down you to conserve remaining energy. Those blitz eximus can be deadly
Love the video! I wonder how this all will fit with a Nourish Styanax. Also, I could just be a jaded old ex warframe player, but don't be surprised if DE comes out years later, looks at Quick Thinking, says "We didn't intend for it to work like this" and nerf energy tanking next.
Thank you for the awesome feedback ❤️ With a Nourish Styanax this would be really really strong :D Hope DE won't touch it, but you are right, we can never know ^^
It will work until you get one shot by the enemy damage scale. If the damage you take exceeds the eHP given by quick thinking it will outright kill you. This is from Wiki: ”If a single attack is sufficiently strong enough to kill in one strike (i.e. damage value in excess of the total available health after armor damage reduction, plus the possible energy-converted buffer), the player will instead enter bleedout immediately and not lose any energy. This is to avoid wasting energy, as the player would've been killed regardless.”
The main problem is that it's just so much easier to gain health than energy, so if you want to tank with damage reduction you're better off using some way of regenerating health and freeing up a mod slot. For example: molt reconstruct heals you for 6 per energy spent, so instead of spending 1-2 mod slots to get triple the ehp from your energy you can spend one arcane slot for 6 times as much ehp per energy AND you actually got to use that energy on abilities instead of just as a health pool.
I use energy tanking with Hubter Adrenaline on my Eclipse Oberon with 5 Blue Tauforged Shards and Prime Flow and adaptation so I can simply ignore most damage while doing cracking relics in survival
Ahh Quick Thinking, haven't seen that around since the dark times... wasn't very useful back then because it was hard to keep energy up and wasn't as many sources of damage reduction to stack, but some still used it as a emergency stopgap from dying when going into the harder void key missions
The real issue with this mechanic in isolation is any kind of gate. It's the same issue pre-rework Inaros had, plus the problem of Disruptors. By the time you scale to a certain point, a 1mil shot WILL kill you. What it is really nice for is as an added panic mode for when you mess up though.
I will take this opportunity to remind people of titania’s helminth power, spellbind. It has an augment. The augment restores energy. A lot of energy. Try it.
7:02 okay your whole video has me excited for this setup because I feel like a character like zephyr who needs a crap ton of energy could utilize this as a defensive tactic but zephyr doesn't need it. But what about other frames who always need high energy pools because they spend their abilities or something.
I think this would best be used on frames who have crazy energy regenerating tactics like Harrow, Protea, Trinity, etc. Frames who have DR abilities already and can stack it up high so your normal ways of energy regenerating suffice to the slower consumption because of the lesser damage. Then lastly, frames without shields that can use Rage and Hunter Adrenaline to get energy from damage taken to health and keep it topped off that way. This is just my guess having not tried this.... yet. I could never figure out what stopping you from dying with 240% efficiency meant lmao.
I was using it in the past, but now there are energy leeches and ancient distruptor on steal path can drain all your energy with one hit. With good energy maintaining it's fine defense option, but it's really hold you back from using skills. For normal missions it's really cool, but for steel path it's dont work too well, especially against infested
i have this build last year when i got the free sevagoth energy tanking via parasitic armor, adaptation, max armor mod, archon shards for armor/energy turning on gloom and let me regen energy via enemy's damage, and i heal back the health cia lifesteal i use parasitic armor to get rid of the shield entirely so i can start taking damage directly from health (would be great if combat discipline works with hunter adrenaline/rage)

@@lookalike4805 But they do literally 😭 most damage i got from bombards is 30k with 95% reduction its 1,5k plus from average armor we get like 50% so it'll be 750 we have energy pool around 500 with 240 effectivenes meaning we can take even 2 shots of them (although i may be wrong and if im really are then i admit it)
1:15 as soon as you brought up Energy Tanking I immediately thought of the Quick Thinking mod. I'm guessing this was stacked with other damage reduction capabilities. Have not watched the rest of the video but tell me that I'm wrong and I'll watch the rest of the video 😂

4:30 the video starts
I remember when Rage/Quick Thinking was one of the most popular survivability methods in the game, before self-healing and shield gating were all that widespread. I honestly thought it had dropped off in relevance, but seeing these experiments is giving me a lot of thought for my own builds. Nice work!
Thank you ❤️
I didn't know actually that this was a thing in the past :O
I'm not gonna lie, after years of staying away, this video makes me wanna install Warframe again and try this method on my beloved Mag.
Great job!!
Hahaha yes, Gauss really goes brrrr with this one :D
Yeah, I do this and it is insane, I also subsume Parasitic Armor onto him as you won't be needing his shields and it can give an insane amount of armor, put the two health to energy and drain energy to reduce damage mod on, as well as shield mods and he is one of the most tanky frames
Who would've thought that using your energy bar as your health bar would result in you having billions of health?
Leech exilus has entered the chat.
Probably worth noting that nobody should ever attempt energy tanking without arcane nullifier, or general status protection.
The tricks you show on this channel always blow my mind. Keep it coming my friend!
Level 9999: im gonna end this mans career
I do understand xDDD
But jokes aside, I'm happy you liked the vid so much ❤️ Welcome to the Crew :D
@@MHBlacky_ENG enjoy the time off!
Hmm mayhap a equilibrium Atlas would work well with this. Without health and shield mods you could maybe squeeze in path of statues, ore gaze and rubble heap. So build up to over 1400 rubble, then go to town punching. Each punch is free if over 1400 rubble, the punches are making petrify paths, and smashing petrified enemies drops more hp and energy orbs.

try to put rage mod to it where if you take damage to your health it will turn into energy i bet that would be great
It doesn't really work because the 40% efficiency on it doesn't provide value. Even if you have passive health regen the mod slot it takes is too expensive.
Assume you have around 400 health, getting taken from max to min only nets you 160 energy, which at best is about 15% more survivability.
You need heal or regen for that actually work. Cause you need to lose HP to trigger rage. If you sitting at 2HP then it won't work.
dead from magnet status effect... again
i remember abusing the rage/quick thinking interaction back in the day before they fixed it. good times
Congrats mate, that's a really different and efficient way to be immortal in warframe, never seen any TH-camr using this Idea before, incredible video
Bro really unlocked blood magic in warframe.
I’ve finally got to my first incarnon. To me it’s amazing lol. Love ur content it’s helped me A LOT.
Seems very viable on Nezha; since they have a damage reduction skill that also negates status effects that would reduce energy
It also scales extremely well.
og chroma quick thinking rage grace tanking 4 digit level enemies and having a multiplicative damage buff i loved it
Shield Gating hardly requires mod investment outside of Brief Respite and slightly weaker generalist Augur mods. You might need Catalyzing Shields but that's not an harsh requirement.
Energy Tanking is basically an evolution of Health tanking and it requires more hard mod taxes and opportunity costs, so this is completely fine
i'm really happy others think shield gating is terrifiedly stressful
yep, that's a relief, won't be nerfed
There! He said it!
You can also do this combo with Oberon's Renewal and other heal over time abilities, instead of using Arcane Grace.
Okay now you have me wondering; if I use Parasitic Armor and a Dante specter, can I get energy from Overguard on any frame....?
Enemy factions: WHY WONT YOU DIE!?
Me: Nano machines son 😏
I know its not quite the same, but I have something similar to this on my Wisp.
Quick thinking, Adaptation, Umbral Power and Armor, Carnis Carapace, Hunter Adrenaline, Archon Intensify, and Flow Prime, if I remember my build correctly.
Use the healthy flower to get great hp and regen, let everyone bang on your health to give tons of energy, let the resistances of adaptation and the armor stack, regen keeps you topped, and if anything hits you hard enough you just don't die.
Wisp has midair invisivility and with the electrosock and healing flowers post of the time you dont even get attacked
You forgot to talk about energy nexus and energy syphon.
Hunter adrenaline
Such a big help in understanding the game. I hope other Tenno find this video early in their journey.
Seeing quick thinking on youtube builds its like being back in 2018
So energy tanking +Nourish = immortality .
I completely forgot about this, thanks for the reminder!
I remember they added a stagger to [Quick thinking], so I stopped using it, but now I might have to check it out again. 🧐
until an enemy randomly hits you for 40,000 EHP that it
it works for an hour into sp or so without having to care too much
Nooooo! Someone discovered my little trick and exposed it to the world.
The neat little trick that's existed since Quick Thinking+Trinity existed, yes
@@NathanTruby as far as I am aware, not many people valued or knew much about energy tanking.
Doing this with a basic trinity was how we got her 4 nurfed back in the day.
Then we should keep her in the box for now xD
Be sure to keep on your toes guys, if you take a big enough hit it will instantly down you to conserve remaining energy. Those blitz eximus can be deadly
Some people interpret this as *Quick Thinking* being Bugged....
I feel bad for them.
Oh boi, Blitz Eximus... The stuff of my 10kHP-Inaros-one-hit-nightmares :O
welp. time to upgrade my wisp.
I've tried making this build before, I didn't realize the DR effected it. That's awesome
Oh man i used to do this in all my builds. Good times. Forgotten older sister to health tanking
Fun fact; years ago this was meta.
so what you're saying is my 99% DR Rage Hirudo Nidus can become even more unkillable?
Love the video! I wonder how this all will fit with a Nourish Styanax. Also, I could just be a jaded old ex warframe player, but don't be surprised if DE comes out years later, looks at Quick Thinking, says "We didn't intend for it to work like this" and nerf energy tanking next.
Styanax gets I frames during his 4 I think.
@@samreddig8819 nope you still take damage on the 4
A Nourish Styanax could provide the entire team with enough power to be the energy battery alone for survival.
Thank you for the awesome feedback ❤️ With a Nourish Styanax this would be really really strong :D
Hope DE won't touch it, but you are right, we can never know ^^
It will work until you get one shot by the enemy damage scale. If the damage you take exceeds the eHP given by quick thinking it will outright kill you.
This is from Wiki:
”If a single attack is sufficiently strong enough to kill in one strike (i.e. damage value in excess of the total available health after armor damage reduction, plus the possible energy-converted buffer), the player will instead enter bleedout immediately and not lose any energy. This is to avoid wasting energy, as the player would've been killed regardless.”
I haven’t seen a quick thinking build in ages. Nice
Remember: if it works, its not dumb
You could use Voruna to get 100% Heavy Attack Efficiency, then using Life Strike to max your HP, and top it off with Hunter Adrenaline + optional Rage
This is an incredible find. Thanks for sharing!
Cheers, Bro! Glad you like it
The real issue with this mechanic in isolation is any kind of gate. It's the same issue pre-rework Inaros had, plus the problem of Disruptors. By the time you scale to a certain point, a 1mil shot WILL kill you. What it is really nice for is as an added panic mode for when you mess up though.
Gauss seems op with that build because of his 2nd skill, damage reduction that also gives you energy... when you take damage
Brings me back to the old Garuda days, used to freak people out when you run around with 2 hp
I will take this opportunity to remind people of titania’s helminth power, spellbind. It has an augment. The augment restores energy. A lot of energy. Try it.
You just gave me a great idea for a build. Thank you!
This gonna get nerfed TOMORROW ☠️

For normal missions it's really cool, but for steel path it's dont work too well, especially against infested
