    My old bike ( Ironhorse Warrior 3.1 26 " ) is completely upgraded and the new one ( 2022 Giant Trance 27.5 ) do not need any upgrade but thank you for encouraging people to do that and also for helping a fellow soldier . Respect and thank you for your service .

    For the future , couple of things : Bigger rotors with adaptors ( 180 mm ) . Dropper post ( Kitsuma Trans X ) and a lighter crankset ( IXF ) .

    I was really into Mt. Bike riding in the mid 90's, and even worked for a small but popular (then) Ti. framed bicycle making company called "Nuke Proof", (in Michigan back then). I still have my 95 Ti frame 22lb Nuke proof bike, and it is in mint condition. So I take 20 years off and buy this Trek 7 Gen 2. I gotta say, at 29lbs with the longer frame, (the last of the steeper head angles), 29" wheels, and gearing that is not as high or low at the 95 bike,----that Trek corners like a bus compared to that quick 95 Ti bike. The Nuke Proof Ti. bike did win the Mountain Bike Action hard tail Ti. bike shootout in 95, over Dean, Light Speed, and one other. Now that head angles are even more slack than this Trek,---you are going to need a berm to turn this these bikes. It is like every thing evolved toward fast downhill riding. In the woods and even flat ground,----95 was better. I promise. OK, well I was too. :)

    If that was my bike, I would think about getting a dropper, tires (possibly go tubeless), getting larger brake rotors next.

    • @JaredHoff

      Dropper post is definitely a good upgrade. This was his first time looking to upgrade his bike, and I had some stuff to give him for free. But a dropper post is definitely a good future upgrade.

      We are going to get him setup on a good set of tires next, but I don’t think his wheels are tubeless ready 😬

    • @kwaktak
      @kwaktak 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JaredHoff it can be done. You just have take out the nylon strip inside, clean the rim with isopropyl alcohol, and put in 21mm wide tubeless tape and a tubeless valve with removable cores. Gorilla tape trimmed to width works but if you ever want to change tires you have to really clean out the gunk so that the bead will sit. Speaking of which, getting the bead to sit really is the hardest part but if the rim is clean and the bead on the tire isn't too stretched out - and you have a lot of patience - it can be done with a floor pump.

    1:47 That grip should be rotated forward (maybe the emblem on the end, right side up, or close). That "Waffled" section of the grip should be facing the middle of those 3 fingers around the grip. The Waffle should be facing more forward. It's for finger traction.

      @@luffyroronoa3997what makes a dropper post so important that several people are saying it

  • @kwaktak
    @kwaktak 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Definitely hook him up with a dropper post and tubeless ready tires. As I said in another reply it can be done on the stock rims. Tubeless ready just means that the rims can accept tape to seal the spoke holes and have a stiff sidewall to lock in the tire bead. Otherwise, it's all about the thickness and other reinforcements of the tire's sidewall. Tread is dependent on riding style and conditions and needs can actually change within a single season depending on weather trends. Also, look into getting a protector for the downtube and chainstays. You might want to hook him up with a cleaning kit too.

    Depending on how much he wants to spend and whether it's worth it, a good saddle is a no brainer, but also a dropper post (unfortunately, Trek stopped putting a hole in the seat tube for internal routing in the Marlins). I'd also go tubeless. If he wants more travel on the fork or he wants an air fork, upgrading makes sense, but the rockshox judy is a quality fork. I have the same bike and made the above upgrades on it (as well as new pedals and grips) but I'll keep the judy on it for awhile. Doesn't seem worth it to me right now.

    My friend put this bike together for his son and before I knew it he was done th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L When the son came to put it together he was surprised to see it was already done. All he had to do was take the bike to get air and be on his way. My friend did not have any major problems putting this bike together; small issue was putting one of the brakes on straight; however when the son got home he was able to fix it. The bike rides well gears move correctly; good bike for the price. Wrote review after the son took the bike. Sorry.
