What can you say, Matty, you're in love with it, and a man should never have to apologize for being in love. I think your best point is having a bike for someone to borrow when they visit, or just someone you know who wants to try to ride but doesn't have a bike. You don't want someone to re-learn how to ride on your Roscoe and scratch it up! In my opinion the only bike someone needs to get rid of is one they don't use. No need to hoard them, but if you ride it, keep it!

Absolutely amazing video! Not everyone is rich enough to afford 5k$ bikes. Let people ride whatever they enjoy with. I hate people when they are looking down upon people when they have budget bike.

My Marlin 7 has been enough. I have upgraded some components but it was actually to replace parts that were holding me back and I couldn’t afford anything a little higher end. If I kept it stock it’d be similar to a current Marlin 4. It’s been nice having an all in one bike that I can ride anywhere.

In janyary I bought a Cube Analog hardtail as my first mtb intended to offroad use. In terms of specs it quite equal with Trek Marlin 7. First it was okay but a bit under year later (of which almost half a year off the bike due to being injured) there is not a lot of original parts left. Frame, crankset and brakes are original and brakes are on to be updated list. Even headset has been replaced to Works Components' 2 degree angle headset which alongside the air fork has been the Best upgrade. Original Rockshox Judy Coil fork was replaced by Recon (which is nearly the Best you can get with quick release axle in 2022 as new). But when arch between lower legs snapped in half it was time to get something more serious to enduro/downhill use and I got YT Capra Core 3 for that use. Still, there is a place in my heart for Cube Analog. How much abuse it has faced and what we have done together. It was my first contact point into sports and link to find amazing crew to ride with. Absolutely the cheapest bike in row (Even 1:10 to some e-bikes) but did its job amazingly. And as it has seen life and abuse there is not high value in money, only emotionally, so why to get rid of it. Too much priceless moments with new friends pushing our own and also our bikes' limits.

Got the Trek 5 Gen2 almost went for the Marlin 6 and quite honest at 56 that's all I need and it's more flexible with it's 2x8 gearing for gravel and asphalt. I'll never need a full SUS for for the trails I intend to ride. Your reasoning is good and I hate bike snobs. I'm more likely to keep a XC bike rather than a full Trail bike I just found out the Marlin 5 is the most popularly sold bike in the country.

I still have my Giant Cadex CFM 2. Stripped down to the frame. Got it in 93 and raced it locally for years. Might refurbish it with modern components just for kicks. This Marlin 6 looks plenty good enough for my rides. Certainly better than my 10-year-old Cannondale 6.

    Love your videos.
I purchased a Marlin 7 back in August 2022, and till last week I put roughly 2200 miles on it till cracking my seat stay. I rode the marlin on some of the gnarlyest rocky trails in my area and enjoyed every moment with that bike. Luckily Trek has an awsome warrently system, I took the credit from the Marlin and put it towards a Roscoe 7. Now I found myself watching all your videos with the Roscoe 😅 keep up the great content 🤟

Good video. I budgetized my high-end hardtail with a coil fork and Tannus tire liners with tubes to have a lower maintenance bike and I enjoy riding it more even with the slight weight gain to the system. Check out the Tannus tire liners, they mute the vibrations a lot and work awesome.

  • @CaptainShiny5000

Yeah, I have a really old 26er Cube LTD from around the 2000s. Has a Rockshox Judy Coil fork and some Magura HS33 hydraulic rim brakes (the good ones with the horse shoe brake booster). What's cool about the frame is that it even has IS2000 Disk Brake mounts (must have been one of the first frames which came with them) and an A-Headset instead of threaded, so it actuall has quite a bit of upgrade potential. Also it's pretty light, accelerates really well and is just fast and fun. And the best thing - I got it for free. I gotta say - on green and some blue trails it's still faster than my Roscoe 7 and the HS33 are actually more powerful than the Shimano MT200 brakes which came on the Roscoe. Not more powerful than the Magura MT Trail sport which I threw on it, though.

Bought the exact same bike three weeks ago, as I am getting back into riding. And took out some trails and I love it. And I feel Having hard tale will help build my skill back up. Then I’ll get my full suspension for major trail riding and yes I will be keeping my Marlin 6 In my line up of bikes. Plus I can go for rides with my wife. As she likes to cruise with her cruiser, cause she doesn’t trail ride. Awesome vid man.

It’s great to have a cheap beater hardtail on hand for zipping around the neighborhood & as a loaner bike. Mine sees duty for pulling the baby trailer to the local park (convenient due to the QR rear axle the trailer hitch mounts to) and it keeps wear and tear off my thru-axle full-sus dedicated trail rig.

I bought an M6 in the spring just before having both knees replaced in the summer. I love it, but unfortunately I now feel all the trail vibrating up my legs when I ride, so it's pretty much FS for me from now on. I'll keep my M6 and use it for rail trails.
