Man, I always wondered about carbon. I ended up getting specialized traverse alloy wheels. They have dt Swiss 350 hubs and they were a few ounces heavier than carbon. I paid 424.00 bucks for the set. I see carbon wheels doing things to make them feel like alloy and cost even more. I couldn't justify them. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm happy with high end aluminum.

if i would be loaded with cash i probably wouldn't care much about these 6-10k prices too, have to admit tho those ebikes looks awesome, but since my yearly income is less then 10k this is just out of my spending range, good vid tho

I remember buying a cheap MTB from Kmart once, luckily it was stolen by a local a few weeks later - it was the worst bike I've ever ridden, and I used to regularly break my old BMX on stunt tracks!

Is it worth it? A wheel upgrade fair enough,the $1000 I didn’t spend on carbon I put towards the same e bike you have. I would never pedal uphill unassisted again and my n9 is for shuttles and my local jump park. I would love to try carbon rims don’t get me wrong I have a dj the n9 and with an e bike that would cover a lot of riding scenarios. Carbon rims go in the electric shifters, wireless droppers category, lovely to have.

Got the EDS on my bike as well and I have to say the EDS is superb. I was on cable XO1 before. Smooth shiftings, battery life is amazing and you can actually know how many shifts you have via the app. Easy setup and works with any drivetrain setup.

I got a schwinn Axum 29 with some aftermarket wheels forks and bars and that thing rips

The Hunt wheels are nice for the price. The only downside is the basic hub, but the rims are super nice. The Maxxis tires are super expensive and not flimsy XC tires but I would look at some other brands that are just as durable and not as pricey.

I get it but also don’t stop people from joking your sport because they don’t have 2000$

I’ve been looking at hunt lately, having issues with my hardtail and rear wheel constantly coming out of true. Carbon sounds so appealing but a tough pill to swallow being the same cost as my bike!

I love the Hunt Trail Wide on my Ripley! Great company! I’ll have to look at these carbon wheels when I eventually go to the ripmo

I love them.............they look great, no doub,t but $1600 is basically what I'm gonna spent on my next hardtail. I mean a complete bike, not just the frame. I know, I know, if you can't afford it don't play. You've got that rig dialed in and looking tight, bro!

Im not sure a carbon wheel would make that much of a difference for me. My aluminum rims are 415 grams vs about 350-360 grams for a carbon rim. The difference isnt really that much. As far as the stiffness goes, i race xc and weigh 124lb. Ive been ready to buy carbon wheels before but couldn't justify the cost. I guess if i ever destroy my alloy rims ill probably buy the carbon rims.

Really wish I knew what the borderline was for carbon wheels or carbon handlebars. I’m a bigger guy and worried I’d break them too easily

Yeah, I wouldn't buy a camera you can't replace the battery. It's not that much smaller than the regular camera. Poor choice... I had the 11 black, 12 black and now 13 black and they have all be great.. Sure, I have had the occasional issue. Some could be user error but not always. The 11 black was $100 more than the mini, so you basically got the camera for nothing :) at least I think it was $100.. it was in Canada anyway. I find Go Pro has the best video quality if used with good lighting.. I will fully admit it falls behind in low light but I don't ride my bike in the dark. I would like to try the Ace Pro 2 though. I would pay the $100 but I would have them send the 12, the 11 is not the current model.. Even the 13 if it's out when this video was done.

Hunt is currently having a sale for 15% off for wheels greater than $400. Then 25% off wheels greater than $1300. So this carbon wheelset can now be purchased for $1200. Now, I understand that this carbon wheelset gives a sizable ride difference when comparing to Polygon's heavy original wheel/tire set. However, the Hunt Endura Wide MTB alloy set is now on sale for about $535 only weighs 161 grams more than the Proven Carbon Enduro wheelset. I wonder what the ride difference would be with these two sets of wheels. Wonder if the higher cost of this carbon wheelset would still be better than this Hunt's Enduro alloy set since there is only a 161 gram weight difference? Thinking it might be a more difficult decision to make. Or not for those of us on a stricter budget.

You say you weren't paid to give a good review but are you going to try and convince us that you aren't biased towards a company willing to send you a free bike?? A bad review could mean you get no more bikes, so even though you were not directly paid, you are still going to be swayed to give it a positive review. Now, in saying that, I believe you enjoyed the bike for what it is.. Just think it's disingenuous to try and convince us it's not biased in any way what so ever. :)

Way too much. My bike does everything and I paid $300 with a $500 upgrade in the drive train

They seem sort of heavy for carbon? I am right around 1800 on Aluminum Enduro Series. You really needed to weigh the wheels minus the tires, etc.

For price and longevity reasons no. Not for me. Your wheels you want light and strong. Carbon has had its time in the sun, but new alloy composites are advancing at an astounding rate. Not everything will or need to be carbon fiber going forward.

FWIW, my FSA GRID 29 wheels with DHR II and Assegai weigh 4.63Kg with rotors, without the cassette.

I have a very hard time with the prices of components. Direct from China sellers are selling complete carbon framesets for $600. While I won't compare the quality, I have a REALLY hard time seeing $4k in a frameset. Wheels are a similar quandry. There are probably even fewer rim/wheel manufacturers and carbon hoops just don't cost 3x more to make from 1 design to the next. I do acknowledge that components like hubs, and to some degree spokes, are different. As an example, I find FSA's price differential between the GRID and GRADIENT wheelsets to be too high. At the end of the day, it's a ~200 gram difference between Alloy and Carbon for those wheelsets. I won't notice that. Something I thought was interesting is "Pro" riders pairing Alloy wheels with carbon frames and carbon wheels with Alloy frames, to arrive at the same compliance and stiffness.

I've had the enduro wide wheels since july last year, since then i've given my rear a few big dings and a huge flat spot, which whilst disappointing since I dont feel ive battered them too hard, i can reason with as my local spots are pretty rocky and gnarly, and i weigh about 200lb. The disappointing thing to me is the rear hub - the front is fine, after 6 months of once a week riding the bearings have started getting a bit rough, but so far i have replaced the freehub bearings 3 times, and i regrease them around every 5 rides. the main hub shell bearings aren't too bad, but i put abec 5 enduro branded bearings which last ages in other hubs ive owned. I don't reccomend hunt wheels for this reason, and the seal between the outside and the pawls isn't amazing. Very disappointing after reading many great reviews, but i think i'll be building some reserve alloys on hope hubs, as ive seen my fair share of both (i work as a mechanic), and they are both bombproof.

I got the aluminum reserve rims, and they are great for the money. They also have a great warranty on them. The carbon wheelset is great but immensely expensive.

My Rocky Mountain Growler 20 only has the original bars on it... Every other part has been upgraded.. Wheels, tires, hubs, drivetrain, dropper, brakes, headset, grips, and seat... lol.. I love the bike.. although, truth be told, I loved it before too. :)

The biggest argument for carbon wheels is the warranty that comes with them. Some companies are 5 year and others are lifetime. If you ride a lot that can really be well worth the price of entry on carbon wheels. Aside from that they really do put up with a lot of abuse and stay true under hard conditions where an aluminum wheel will go out of true. Once you ride them a bit you really do notice going back to alloy wheels.

You can also shave off some weight by reducing the number of spokes down to 24h or 28h. not that significant but noticeable, did it to my Poly Col. N9

Those wheels are so good man. Sometimes they are on sale for under a $1000 bucks which is a steal. I ride the Hunt All Mountain alloy mullet wheels on my e bike with DH tires and Cush core. I never broke a spoke or got a scratch after many days at Northstar all DH riding. You cannot beat hunt for quality value and design. Hunt uses the best materials and spokes too.

If those Schwalbes were "Super Gravity" casings, then those EXO+ Maxxis tires are a few hundred grams lighter, I'm pretty sure. I might be wrong though😅

I run the Hunt Proven XC Race Carbon wheels on my Santa Cruz and they’re amazing. You’ve got 2 choices; 1. Spend the money, upgrade and reap the gains or 2. Stay where you’re at, working your butt off against the resistance and watching those of us who have Carbon wheels wait on ya at the end.. 😂

I have 2 sets of Hunt carbon wheels. The Proven UD Carbon and the Race XC. I absolutely love the UD carbon wheels. Super light, high hub engagement, with excellent fit and finish. The Race XC wheels are ok. The milling for the centerlock ROTORS isn't the greatest. On the UD wheel set my rotors fit snug, the Race XC my rotors have play in them, so if you hold the brake lever and move forward and back the rotor stays still but the bike moves a little(no matter how tight you try to tighten down the rotor) Also with the Race XC the spoke noise is ridiculous(yes the spokes are tightened to factory spec) So if you peddle up a hill all you hear is the spokes shifting and rubbing against each other every time you push against the peddle. It drives me NUTS. The design and fit and finish of their Race XC isn't on the same level as their UD wheels. I am looking to replace the Race XC set with the Enduro set you reviewed here. I don't care if they weigh more as long as the hold up and don't make a ton of noise (plus having a 6 bolt rotor design will fix my other issue)

thinking of getting these wheels to pair with the Collosus N8E, think that's a good way to go? I'm really debating going down the eMTB route.
