One other difference between the new Marlin 7 and the 2023 Marlin 8 is that the Marlin 8 did not come tubeless setup, so that’s a good feature to see on the Marlin 7!

Which Verse Short saddle did they use? It seems Trek has four different verse short models. Just for info I asked trek about the sizing, they are not going XXL on this 2024 version unfortunately. Thanks

ive been looking at some similar stuff for a similar purpose.
defenitely for that budget the Roscoe 7 (for muddy, dirt trails, harder downhill, since i think has better fork/brakes and X-caliber for more soft downhill, street and general use (due to seating position even tho it's still a sporty seating position)
take this info coming from someone looking at samre as you, but lower budget and not so much info i guess (more reading not so much video)
Hi . Love your channel , good to hear detailed info from someone who has indepth knowledge on Trek bikes. I am in a situation here , need help. I got my Marlin 8 gen 3 , but now I feel I should have gone for Roscos 7. What is your opinion.
Thank you! And I personally prefer the Roscoe 7, but you do save some money with the Marlin 8 and it’s a great mountain bike so not bad. Roscoe has more potential for upgrades biliary and is a more robust frame with better geometry for trail riding, but marlin is better if you want to ride your bike on the road or on gravel too, or if you’re more on a budget
For next summer, I was initially thinking of buying the Marlin 7 Gen 2 because of the price and that it's even cheaper than the Marlin 6 Gen 3. Still, after weighing the pros and cons I decided to wait for a nice price on Marlin 7 Gen 3 2023. And I watched this video, but I still think Marlin 7 Gen 3 2023 would be the best way to go.

Is it ok to ride in trail only?
Awesome! It should be fine, the derailleur is the main part that tends to malfunction but you should be able to ride it for a while without needing to replace it. The trail is harsher than the road so it’s more likely to malfunction on the trail, but it depends on how hard you ride too

What is the difference between the marlin 6 gen 3 2023 and 2024 ?
I can see the Merlin 7 is cheaper than Merlin 6 gen 3 2024. I tought the 7 is higher spec than the 6
I made a separate video comparing the 2023 and 2024 marlin 6 bikes if you want to check that out, and the marlin 7 is always more expensive than the marlin 6 in the same model year. Gen 2 marlin 7 is more expensive than gen 2 marlin 6, and gen 3 marlin 7 is more expensive than gen 3 marlin 6. However gen 3 marlin 6 is more expensive than gen 2 marlin 7 since gen 2 is the older model with the older frame design
My son races the Marlin 8 Gen 2 is MISCA/NICA. I’m a little bummed to see the Gen 3 frame is heavier but totally better for a trail rider. Guess dad is going to have to spend more $$$ when it time for a new bike 🤦♂️
March 2024 and they still aren't in stock around here. FWIW I'm perfectly happy with the Deore M4100 groupset but the Judy Solo Air fork is a nice upgrade.
Marlin 5 & 6 is more appealing to me.
Any update on the Roscoes?
I'll either go for a cheaper Marlin and upgrade later or get a mid tier Roscoe now.
Agreed, and I think there are new Roscoes out there but no info on the Trek website yet. I’ll make a video as soon as I can though!
Problem with the Marlin's is less upgradable.
They got the new roscoe 6 and it has the same frame as the other roscoes

Which year Marlin 4 do you have? If you want to mountain bike more the Marlin 4 is pretty low level so upgrading to the new gen 3 frame would be way better for trail riding

Yeah if you do want to upgrade I’d say go to a marlin 6 gen 3 or higher. You could also do marlin 6 or 7 gen 2 but I think the gen 3 frame would be a way more noticeable upgrade
That's literally same as marlin 8 2023. and I wonder what's upgrad for marlin 8.

Besides some small changes yes it’s basically the same. Talked about that at the end of the video but my best guess is that Trek won’t upgrade the marlin 8 for 2024 and phase it out since it doesn’t make sense in the lineup anymore. Just a guess though
how about doing a head to head comparison between this and the new Roscoe 6 since there are in the same price category
Yeah I’ll do that one! Was waiting for Trek to release the bike on the website so now that it’s out it’l be good to compare those for sure
Specs say 2.3 is the max for the back tire..problem?
I just checked the specs on the website for the gen 3 bike and it says 2.40” max. You can likely fit a bigger tire in there but that’s the official spec

Hahaha, I personally think the 23’ model is still better, unless this new one is somehow the same price as the 2023 bike
So does that mean that the marlin 8 gen 3 2024 will get an upgrade for 2024?
I was discussing that in the end, and I’m not sure at the moment since then it would probably be way to close in price to higher end Trek hardtails like the roscoe and x caliber, which wouldn’t make sense value wise in my opinion, but we’ll see!
The Marlin 7 was the top-of-the-line Marlin back in 2020 so maybe they could phase out the Marlin 8 completely since the price points are creeping into the Roscoe territory and the Roscoe 6 finally got an updated frame for 2024.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking as well, I can’t see anyone paying even more money for a marlin 8 that would have a worse frame than the roscoes
Maybe next year I am gonna upgrade from Marlin 4 to at least the 7 😊

Trek needs to fix there “GEN” problem. Trek is confusing everyone with these Gens.
Yeah I can understand what they’re trying to do but it honestly just makes it more annoying to make these videos and harder to not confuse people haha
