    Cold welding rims with only one pass/side will cause the next cracks! You can fill gaps,but cause enormous tensions.

    You need to fully bevel both sides and guarantee 100% penetration.
    And just as a side note- IF anyone is thinking about doing wheel repair... If you weld repair a rim for any kind of automobile and it fails on the road causing ANY kind of injury- you are fully liable.

      Lmmfao, depends on who welds it, what kind of day they were having, how good the roads are that you drive on, how good the weld prep was, hell might even depend on how much coffee the welder had that morning. I've been doing it for a living since 1991, and I wouldn't trust anyone to weld an aluminum rim. Buy a NEW one.

    • @roydunn4649

    • @roydunn4649
      @roydunn4649 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That depends. Maybe $100-200. But if it's not perfect... Could cost you the knowledge that it's all your fault when it fails on the road and someone gets hurt. Plus the cost if DOT finds out it was welded... Not with it

    • @roydunn4649
      @roydunn4649 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, it depends on how thick of material you are going to weld and your skill level. Best advice for ANYONE who wants to TIG weld at home: go take a beginning TIG welding class. Or if you know someone who has considerable skill (actually TIG welds for a living) ask if they can teach you

  • @misterbakinec
    @misterbakinec 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    aluminum stick you have to weld only on one side on the other side you just need to weld it so that air does not form there, you just need to weld it until a homogeneous mass

    • @roydunn4649
      @roydunn4649 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@furmantucker4989 Sir, a TIG welding machine that won't weld aluminum is worthless.
      Go to a welding supply store and look at machines. Or look at one if the TH-cam channels that does reviews on welders. I wouldn't buy anything but Miller myself. But every co.pany that makes quality welding machines sells a TIG welder that has AC.
      You need to shop around and see what you can afford. What I would buy for myself for is most likely out of your price range. (Between $5,000 and $8,000) Even the cheapest wire feed welder I would buy is $2,500 and most people say that's to spendy for a garage welder.
      Once again, shop around, talk to a welding supply store. Find out what machine will do what you need and you can afford.

    What diameter and color tungsten did you use? What filler rod?

    • @roydunn4649
      @roydunn4649 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tungsten truly doesn't matter. Tungsten size matters depending on how hot your going to run. As far as filler, depends on how you finish it. Paint? Polish? Anodize?

    • @roydunn4649
      @roydunn4649 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But, personally, as a guy who has been TIG welding since 1991 (aerospace, job shops and even some nuclear) I would NEVER use rims I knew someone had welded on and wouldn't weld my own. There is always a chance, maybe a miniscule chance, but still a chance something can go wrong on the road. If someone gets hurt, that shit is on me.
      No weld shop I ever have worked for allowed anyone to weld rims on there property. Didn't matter if they were your own rims. Makes the company liable for damages. Trust me, The didn't care how good you were or how many aerospace certifications you had
      That right there should tell you wether to let someone you have no idea what their skill level is weld your rims, or just buy new ones. Up to you

  • @mark006868
    @mark006868 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Blaser Builds..In fact, you should have heated everywhere around the repair area before welding... with a torch....as aluminum is such a heat sink...and grinding the weld on the outside served only to weaken the weld and was useless...just saying...
