Henry Zebrowski, one of the hosts of The Last Podcast on the Left, was a part of Synydyne, and played Henri in Bear Stearns Bravo. Took me forever to piece that together. @@goatskin4487 That's not what socialism means... At all lol . Socialism is when the proletariat has communal ownership of the means of production. Nothing more, nothing less. That was pure capitalism, sorry to tell ya... It really is depressing, just how many Americans think socialism means "when the state does something" - Personally, I happen to be an anarcho-communist, in the tradition of Emma Goldman or Peter Kropotkin - meaning I advocate for the immediate dismantling of the state apparatus _entirely_ - But then, like most Americans, I sincerely doubt you're familiar with any forms of communist thought outside of Marxism (and even that's unlikely, if I'm being honest - hell, a lot of Americans even think freaking _liberals_ like Obama are socialist, not realizing that we socialists hate liberals as much as they do - only you know, for the _right_ reasons - because they're weak centrists and useful idiots for the capitalist system. They also support gun control, which is anti-worker). . Capitalism by definition, is private ownership of the means of production - this being done with some kind of social safety net is still capitalism - If anything, it's even worse - Because it keeps the working class _just_ healthy enough to prevent proletarian revolution.
@@goatskin4487 It was unregulated capitalist greed that caused the banking crisis. Plain old white-collar crime. A clear result of predatory lending. Regardless on where one stands on socialism, capitalism, etc. the banking crisis was a result of the banks using predatory lending techniques- so that the banks could pull in a massive profit- intentionally leaving borrowers destitute. I'm not a socialist (quite the opposite), but to blame the banking crisis on "socialism" is... misleading at best.
@@goatskin4487 don't worry, there's plenty of other people who know what you mean. Subprime lending combined with government bailouts is a guaranteed way to fuck the economy.
The only thing I can say is: That whole cool set-up of "This is my Milwaukee" is connected to THAT thing of Bear Stearns Bravo?! I thought the pronunciationbook channel and horse e-books started there and...and...what. what. And it was behind a paywall as well?! I'm...I'm speechless. I can't even finish properly this comment. That's it.
You're misunderstanding this. TIMM is only 'connected' to Bear Stearns Bravo in that it's by the same people. There's no story connection. This is a video about Synydyne, the people who made them, not about Bear Stearns Bravo. Cat Daddy even said so in the video several times, talking about how 'TIMM disappeared, and *then* the stuff that led to Bear Stearns Bravo happened' (paraphrased).
@@MCOmegaX123 No no, I know they're only connected by Synydyne. That was poor phrasing on my side. I was (and still am) surprised that such a promising ARG such as TIMM was created by the same pople that pulled off Bear Stearns Bravo.
holy SHIT i remember this meme trend. the "how to pronounce" stuff got super popular out of nowhere as a funny joke thing. had no idea it could even be linked to an ARG
Never heard of this, surprisingly. And as a Wisconsinite, the start of their trip for sure piqued my interest! Never been to Milwaukee, but good to see one of our biggest cities used for an ARG, even if it didn’t go great in the end!
@Gamer Time not lately. People have been flocking here for the past 10 years and there have been so many more buildings with one bedroom apartments going up downtown that the city is almost unrecognizable from when I first moved here in 2008.
hah this is a Murderfist project. This is an extra treat for Last Podcast Network fans. Ed Larson, Ben Kissel, Henry Zebrowsky and Holden McNeely all showed up in this.
I literally gasped when Pronunciation Book came up! I remembered coming in on around day 63 or something, and got excited... ...and then I remembered the reveal.
@@Dark0niro Well that one, all they did was make the G non-silent. I've seen people (mostly jokingly, but occasionally with full seriousness) call it "la-ZAG-nah". All they did was "la-ZAHG-nya", which is only a voiced G away from the correct pronunciation (or at least the way Americans/Canadians pronounce it, never heard an actual Italian say it so I don't know).
@@MCOmegaX123 I'm probably wrong cause admittedly, I suck at English (and Italian in this case); however I say it like this: "La-zaw-nya". It's kinda how I've always heard people around me say it.
Re: Bear Stevens Bravo, I actually did get a hint that it had to do with the 2008 crisis pretty early on. The mention of a regulator given the time period, I had a hunch it had something to do with the subprime mortgages and lack of regulation. And I didn’t even know about Bear Stearns or Synydyne. Still dumb and a bit of a letdown, but I wasn’t really _surprised_ that that was the focus after the reveal. Everything _else,_ however, _was_ a surprise. The sci-fi/comedic angle, the pay in for part 2, the “romance”, the playing _as a banker,_ …. That was a bit of a shocker. And an unpleasant one at that. And that’s not even getting into the lackluster response from calling in (Seriously, just reading the tweets from the same account that we get the number from? What’s the point?) and the fact that they had apparently abandoned an earlier project just made me even less enthusiastic about the whole deal. I was never _angry_ like a lot of people were, but I wasn’t happy either.
Honestly, the whole Synydyne thing just makes me laugh. I wouldn't be surprised if the *real* "art project" was some kind of exploration of various elements of human disappointment or something. I'm sure if they're planning future projects, they will do them under a different name now that the cat is out of the bag. They're definitely good enough at this to not have to rely on name recognition for future endeavors.
Well, you couldn't have timed this series better if you tried. I'm slowly going stir crazy. I'm on Immunomodulators. Haven't been out of the house for more than 15 minutes since before spring break. Never thought I would miss having Lab at 8AM or dealing with the Drive through window at Walgreens.
I really didn't expect to see Ben Kissel, Henry Zebrowski, and Holden McNeely in the Milwaukee video. Hello to the other Last Podcast on the Left fans in the comments! Hail yourselves!
Especially with people like Henry Zebrowski being involved in bear Stearns bravo. Nowadays it'd be a bigger deal with probably a more positive reaction
@@melsotelo5109 Also we're far enough away from the housing crisis now that turning it into a joke wouldn't be as distasteful. They definitely suffered from a bit of "too soon" syndrome
As someone who was only tangentially aware of Horse E-Books and didn't have the emotional attachment to the unfolding mystery I think Bear Stearns Bravo is hilarious and delightfully bizarre. Plus it stars Henry Zebrowski! That's something I can give a megustalations to.
The reaction to Bear Sterns Bravo is exactly why This is Your Milwaukee and most ARGs just fizzle out. Artists in this field are better off just leaving shit a forever mystery than even trying to satisfy fans of the genre. How many ARGs have even stuck the landing at all, much less ended in a way considered overwhelmingly positive by the majority of the audience?
Okay so. I need you to imagine my reaction as I’m cleaning, listening to the video in the background, only to be rudely slapped in the face by 2012 with “horse ebooks”-an account I have only ever known as “that one weird bot that was exposed(?) to be not actually a bot”. I think I remember seeing mention of an ARG, but I also think I remember people yelling back that it was most likely another Cole Sprouse-style social experiment/betrayal? ...online early 2010s were weird, man.
I need to say, after I watched this video for the first time, that vegetable that is used as the seed showed up at the grocery store I work at the next day. It had never been there before, and it still has yet to have an actual label put on it.
I've had this video open in a tab since 2 hours after its release and I've been watching it in short segments. I finished it today. It literally took me a month to watch this video.
I admit I normally listen to things like this and now that I sat down and actually watched I lost my shit and had to go digging when I saw Henry in the BSB part
I guess I'll be the asshole, I kinda like the idea of BearSternsBravo. To say "no one wanted a comedic take on the decline of the housing market" is just a little disingenuous considering The Big Short was such a huge success. Also, shout out to my man Henry Zebrowski from LPOTL who is one of the playable characters in it apparently. Never heard him talk about it or syndyne since he had his own comedy group Murder Fist. Would love to hear him talk about this
yeah I remember when atrocity guide covered the Horse-ebooks story that ultimately led to the Bear Stearns Bravo thing and I was like "....Henry?" Nick here sort've filled in the blanks, I didn't know about the TIMM connection, so many LastPod actors were in that one
The Big Short was a 2015 biopic whose comedy was derived strictly from the actual events and behavior of those involved, and as a means to communicate how that fiasco happened and why. It was also adapted from an extremely well researched novel that acted as a feelers for how this material would be received by audiences. Bear Sterns Bravo on the other hand was a fictional satire, released blind, on the back of an ARG completely disconnected from that topic. Nobody was in the mood for that sort of thing in 2013, believe me.
He did mention in an episode of LPOTL that he and the other folks from Murder Fist knew the people who put up the fake pronunciation guides! I just never expected him to pop up in an episode of Night Mind!

I was a lurking member on Unfiction after the This is My Milwaukee video dropped because something about that video really enchanted me. I still quote it to this day. As cool as the real life experiences were for the ones who experienced them, I felt like... I don't know how to describe it. It was like every random detail in the video was used elsewhere, but in a boring way. The subtitles saying "Champion Dynasty" when she sang "Bubblegum Millennium" was so mysterious! And then it was just a cheap plastic trophy with no explanation. So many details like that ended up just being flubs, in my opinion. It took some of the magic away, and I almost wish I'd never known it was an ARG. But I still say "hamBURger" all the time with my partner, and reference it in other ways because that initial video was just too damn good.
Synydyne broke up as a group. That's why you haven't heard from them since. Three of its former members now run Last Podcast on the Left-- one of them, Henry Zebrowski, was the redheaded actor you see in the Bear Stearns Bravo trailer.
I am forever mourning TIMM and BSB (and the unforums). Probably the most enjoyable ARGs I’ve ever been involved with! I still hope to uncover what we did wrong when we opened The Champion Dynasty Fund. Uh oh.
The reaction wasn’t all negative btw. There were a bunch of us to found the game enjoyable and hilarious, totally worth $7. There were codes hidden in the game play and people are still working on deciphering the whole thing. It seemed to me like the ones who were angry were players who did not play TIMM or understand the sense of humour. ARGs were so saturated by creepy storylines and so many people expected some dark-slender-man-esque outcome. For those new players I’m sure it was a disappointment, but I couldn’t understand why people were so upset over it. The genre needed some lighthearted fun. The clues were there the entire time, and if you expected something different you were not interpreting them correctly. Just my opinion as a player of both games from the very beginning.

Henry Zebrowski, one of the hosts of The Last Podcast on the Left, was a part of Synydyne, and played Henri in Bear Stearns Bravo. Took me forever to piece that together. His association with, and in fact most traces of Synydyne, are really hard to track down. I want to talk to him someday, hear whatever he's willing and/or able to share.

idk man making bear sterns into a mythologized character is a brilliant way to satirize the culture of capitalism, i kinda dig it as an art project
The banking crisis was caused by socalist polcies ie bailing out banks instead of letting the free market take it's course.
@@goatskin4487 shhhh.... Don't use your brain; most of the world doesn't like that.
@@goatskin4487 That's not what socialism means... At all lol
.

I was born in Wisconsin and I thought the my Milwaukee was pretty entertaining at least.

The way they're pronouncing hamburger is driving me mad
That, and not Lasagna?...

Would love to hear him talk about this
yeah I remember when atrocity guide covered the Horse-ebooks story that ultimately led to the Bear Stearns Bravo thing and I was like "....Henry?"
Nick here sort've filled in the blanks, I didn't know about the TIMM connection, so many LastPod actors were in that one
It'll be an awesome episode of Doctor Who someday, but that day is not today. Too many people were hurt too badly. Maybe 2040 or so.

"Hey. You know what's really cool?
