Regarding the elephant at 19:30: Tramplers are currently not pushing through smaller troops in the same way as large non-trampler units so you have to be careful with positioning them
But one thing the AI can't handle and that is: Playing Mictlan - EA LA Miclan are always the first out because the AI can't handle the blood sacrifice and gets domkilled 100% of the time.
Horse tribe actually counter elephants and similar tramplers. High defence and a lance for burst damage that they keep in reserve until something gets close. They are countered by ranged harrass where they rout without using their dangerous lances. The safe play to clear them is manikin distraction and then javelin them. Sometimes you get lucky and snipe their commander too.
i don't think dominions is a great game to stream anyway, unless you're playing a blitz and have the opportunity to talk to chat in between turns. Episodic single player is fine.
This isn't directly related to the video, but how often do people play games with the supply/resource/money multipliers cranked up all the way? That might be fun to watch.
I'd imagine those games would go to larger battles quicker. Could be interesting, but I suppose it would drown out nations that rely on freespawn/blood hunting and the more niche thugging nations a little. Cap only sacreds would likely be less impactful, so that's an interesting consideration. Another
I practically can't watch big streams for games I'm interested in, mostly ones with super active chats. Most of the time the streamer ends up reading out donations or memeing or just talking about when they went to the store earlier, often not even playing the game while doing so.
Depends a little on the streamer and their viewers. DDRJake has a good dialogue with his chat imo to the point where chat kinda enhances the experience, which may partially be due to his "viewer reduction strats". Edit, as I got distracted round 1 writing this: Otherwise yeah, at best it's distracting with a few good questions, but generally it seems to me like it's just a war for attention.
I stopped watching quill18 for this nonsense, but he's surrounded by parasocial sycophants who get their daily dose of socializing from hearing him thank them for a donation or sub every other second.
Buff spell tageting in dom6 seems bad, and do for sure not always go highest hp as it mostly do in dom5, it seem to prioritize close targets more than everything else in my experience
In some ways that's helpful; it could be really hard to target buffs in Dominions 5 when you had a box of something very high HP on the field... I remember doing skirmish formations on infantry to get my cavalry buffed. It now feels more like you can put the mage in the middle of the ball of troops and he'll probably buff that squad...
Thats what i thought... it gets much worse later in this game as i try to put body ethereal on elephants... and it really really struggles. Need to test it more and file a complaint i think... i was pretty frustrated by it. If its predictable maybe its ok though, but so far it seems pretty unpredictable.
One Dominion candle is -1% population per turn for Asphodel. Growth is +0.2% per scale, so along with the 0.2% you get naturally it adds up to +1%, which cancels out the one Dominion candle.
How does community memes interact with the bonus design points impossible ai get? Does it throw them into random stuff or does it stick to the set builds and leaves those points unused?
What are those 6 things you set to research in both the first game you restarted and the second one? I couldn't recreate it in my game. Is it part of a mod?
Would the stone idol be something to incorporate into an Asphodel build? Stack up on them in big provinces for heretic rolls to keep the dom out, and let it run wild elsewhere?
@@LucidTacticsI sadly don't have the time and such to mess around with Dominions these days, but if I do something I'll let you know! Math-wise, it looks promising though. Because of how temple-checks work out, it's very hard to remove the final candle with heretic, but a stone idol can on average match about four temple checks per turn in a province (on low dom, a temple check has close to 60% chance of doing anything at all, and in a dom1 province, only a 27% chance of creating a candle. A stone idol has a 60% chance of removing a candle flat). So one stone idol per province you want to save could be enough, as long as you stick to 14 temples total to not go above 3dom.
How do you select the same spell in the scripting portion? I hate having to click the same spell to cast if I am casting only one spell on a mage? (X to copy the Spell) Fantastic content, can't wait for a Dom6 tournament!
While this may well be the optimal way to play asphodel, I really think that playing discount Pangea is a lot less interesting than playing asphodel as the high dominion slow transition into undead that its yearning to be.
Hey Lucid. I'm uncomfortable with the showcasing of Sombre's gamestart mods. In doing so you are promoting bad modder/developer behavior where its up to the customer to fix known issues with the game. Illwinter has long ignored community feedback and its upsetting to see the public community face just shrug and pretend this is normal. Enablers like Sombre who created said mods because his beta feedback was ignored should not be running PR for illwinter. The failures of dominions 5 and 6 development need to be addressed not shuffled under the carpet to pop up again for 7. The idea that illwinter isnt profit sharing with the worthy heroes people after all the years of that mod filling in content is criminal. Your spellcasting AI mod is a cousin of my dom2/3 spellcasting mod which I discontinued because Illwinter was clearly exploiting modders relying on free labor to address known issues.
What the hell are you smoking? Mods that change the game for what members of the community want it to be are a good thing. Illwinter isn’t some giant corporation, with endless devs. Don’t call people who put time out of their day to change a game somehow morally wrong enablers
This is about fair compensation for content which a big problem in many creative Industries. For example the AI not blessing it's troops which is one of sombre's mod is a problem that's been known for DECADES and was know in the dom6 beta before release. Rather than pay a programer for a fix Illwinter is exploiting modders like me for free labor. A serious problem in the gaming industry where a lot of that free labor comes from teenagers loyal to a product don't know the value of their talent
@@neversaydie6032 Dude, Illwinter is the gaming dev equivalent of 2 dudes in a shed banging rocks together. They aint some bloody shadow cabal out to exploit child labor, shut up, grow up, and let a work of love be a work of love.
What would you call it? In Dom4/5/6 Illwinter chose to ignore feedback of various fairly critical AI problems or missung content in the case of worthy heroes, a mod older rhan my adult children, and not compensate creators who would work to fix those problems for them. Its labor piracy.
The art for the thumbnail is awesome

That elephant is a lover, not a fighter
But one thing the AI can't handle and that is:

True!!
Yea , i have played only single player and some of the AI nations are just useless , some are decent though and even expand pretty well.
The low Dominion plan may well be stronger. I still think it's less fun.
Not sure if this is recorded before the asphodel patch, but remember they changed the Fort spell so any pan can cast it, you don't need N4.
Before patch, in previus video when he was talking about asphodel sp run he mentioned he mised few things.
Yeah totally missed this, i realize it later and feel like an idiot :)
@@LucidTactics my carrion fortress spell is still creating bramble forts :(
@@jb9515yeah i thought it would be a special fort but its the same. (the change though was they changed the path requirements - that part is working)
The game's been out for a month and you have 8 mods active o_0
Im mostly just jealous, really hoping I can make the purchase soon
More than 8 I guess, jumped the gun with my comment

It's Nice to see some one play Low DOM. I personally play 10 DOM builds to drown my self in nature gems. Good luck

harpy prophet is classic, i remember that happening occasionally in dom 4
Me thinks the elephant that wasn't targeted by regrowth because he was injured and below the undead commander in HP
I forgot that Plant based undead don't recover after each battle.
This isn't directly related to the video, but how often do people play games with the supply/resource/money multipliers cranked up all the way? That might be fun to watch.
not often i dont think. ive heard of a few games with it though - they get crazy.

Yeah same, it’s like pay to lose (or make the stream worse)

so i like to start a game getting as close as i can and kind of play along. took me 6 starts to get 1 with 1 candle.
Yeah apparently starting candles arent generated via conventional temple check rules.... which is strange!
I'm confused, what's the pop kill on a dominions vs a growth 4 scale in a province. At what candle level does it have to he to beat growth 4?
One Dominion candle is -1% population per turn for Asphodel. Growth is +0.2% per scale, so along with the 0.2% you get naturally it adds up to +1%, which cancels out the one Dominion candle.
@Sorrac0001 I see and this not aking account forts. Interesting
How does community memes interact with the bonus design points impossible ai get? Does it throw them into random stuff or does it stick to the set builds and leaves those points unused?
It leaves those points unused i believe; they still get tons of bonus gold and stuff.
You forgot to set the AIs to something other than random (assuming that was unintentional)
I think for the restart i did a mix of standard and defensive. *actually no - i think it must have been random, cause an AI does early war me*
What are those 6 things you set to research in both the first game you restarted and the second one? I couldn't recreate it in my game. Is it part of a mod?
Yeah they are from trusty research. They let you assign your starting research from magic scales rather than have it randomly distributed.
They're from a mod. They research for 50 and live one turn. It let's you pick your starting research
Would the stone idol be something to incorporate into an Asphodel build? Stack up on them in big provinces for heretic rolls to keep the dom out, and let it run wild elsewhere?
Maybe, i think you sorta just accept 1 candle in places. If you play around with that let me know if you think it was a worthy investment or not.

Thanks for the episode! Really hyped for this series!
Like the new format.
I got no vines to hold me down
I love the idea for this game so much but am terrible at it. Living my Dominions dreams through Lucid has a much better win rate.
I love watching videos like this and just.. pretending to know what the guy is talking about for hours.
Where's the art on the thumbnail from?
Mix of midjourney and photoshopping.
While this may well be the optimal way to play asphodel, I really think that playing discount Pangea is a lot less interesting than playing asphodel as the high dominion slow transition into undead that its yearning to be.
We are going to have lots of undead - dont you worry one bit. We are just also going to be rich as shit :)
