Thank you for the video. I was strangely enchanted by this game seeing it on the store page and without videos like this one I would have been entirely lost. This one is concise and well put together, I will be waiting for the next one!
In the 5th instalment i played a undead race but made it where they live in very very cold. I'm pretty sure as i moved to place to place i killed off the populace and then had new soldiers for my army. Now i didn't really know what i was doing but i won that game so i'll call it a win. Thanks for helping me understand the game better.
Just discovered this game. I’m an old dwarf fortress vet and this game is exactly what I love! Sweet sweet learning curves! So exited. This video is very very good. Perfect blend of concise but not not patronizing. You should be a teacher IRL. Thanks dude looking forwards to enjoying your channel!
Don’t sell yourself short! I love DasTactic, but his videos are almost too much information about each nuance that you sort of lose track about how to actually play. This video is excellent for getting folks (like me) to just dive in! Can’t wait if you make follow up videos about magic, items, and the mid/late game. That’s about where I got and I’ve stalemated a bit. Tried Arco as my first nation, love them elephants! Almost makes up for the lack of blunt weapons - all piercing gets a little tricky when fighting skeleton armies.
This is a great video for after you put in your first 5ish hours into the game. It explains things you dont pick up just playing through. For a future idea, could you explain a bit more of the expansion and resources system? For example how to optimize your territories and make them produce more, how to effectively spread your Gods influence, etc.
Thank you so much for this! I got the game today and decided I'd learn it by playing. Sent my earth serpent solo at a province convinced a god is super strong and watched it slowly die horribly to barbarians. 4 hours into playing I discovered what spacebar does 😅 This has been really helpful
Awesome video, figured I'd watch just to get refreshed with the new release. Can't believe you don't have more subscribers with the quality of content you put out!
I've been playing Dominions casually ever since Dom2 but I never got too deep into it, was just kinda messing around each time not really understanding what I was doing, and don't get me started on more complicated nations like Mictlan or R'lyeh. Even so, I always adored Dominions, it's rustic and cozy and I definitely should play more of it. Just recently purchased Dominions 6 and loving the new features so far. Your guides are gonna prove useful too, so thanks, Lucid!
Hey Lucid - Thanks for a great video explaining the basics of the game. This is my first time playing a dominions game, and its been fascinating spending hours trying to learn it. Any chance you could provide some tips on evaluating what your army can handle? For example, how you knew your god can single-handedly take on a certain army? Another question which I realize may be a bit advanced for me to worry about. But as a rule of thumb, should the god I pick have the same magic types that the commander mages in my faction have, or should I differentiate. For example if the priests in your faction use earth and fire, do you typically make your god be similar as a rule of thumb, or is it better to branch out?
Could you make a basic guide for multiplayer as well? How standrad multiplayer game works? How it look in early/mid and late game. Is it just one big battle and who have more broken spells/troops wins? Or its diferent?
Love your vids! I'm not 'new' per se, but I have a lot to learn still. Just wanted to say I was cringing a bit when you loaded into Ulm and I saw your commander (who was obviously going to be made into your prophet) was named Adolf. Cringed again when the game decided that your first mage should also be named Adolf 😅 I felt so validated when you finally noticed at 39:39 and said ALL the things I'd been thinking until then 🤣
Ulm does not have a scales preference, so making it hot or cold is only going to be a malus. And with only F1, maybe F2, on your master smiths you won't be using fire much anyway.
I think you need to update your graphics driver. Really nice helpful videos, but I don't know how you can stand to play with all that screen flickering. At the 48 minute mark, it had a hell of a time drawing those movement apps, heh.
Started the game, picked Great Mother, tree thing magic, death magic, something else. Sent 3 human armies to their death against a 60-80 human province, my general got mummified. Started raising undead, The Great Mother awakened, then I just spammed undead till I got 5 other provinces
I own dominions 3 and 4, and by far my only real complaint of the series is that there seem to be virtually zero gameplay or graphical upgrades from one installment to the next. The only thing that really gets added is additional gods and units and spells and such, but nothing that fundamentally changes anything about the way the game looks or is played. The graphics are the same from Dominions 3 to Dominions 6 and the price jump is pretty huge. I feel like Dominions installments should be DLC, not separate games for $40+. Just doesn’t feel worth it to me
What I really miss in this game (which is commonly present in 4x games) - is having a list of "unassigned entity", like, any hero that was not moved, given some order (in this case "defend" should be an order, and default one should be like "idle" or smth). Or "you still have 0 researches in research queue". And so on. Also you have no way to see all your actors positions and orders from one view, where you can be sure who is doing what ...
You can hit the n key to cycle through unassigned commanders. As for seeing everything in one view for a battle. Not sure how they could put all that info in, you can see more in dom6 than you could in dom5 though
I might figure things out in time but... This is so confusing... I attacked an area and won easily but now I can't access those units or the Commander for some reason.
A major issue I had with Dominions so far is that normal soldiers were essentially chaff with little to no tactical value compared to mages. I understand, magic is greater than might, there's an entire research and progression system behind it. But choices between soldier typesb and tiers being reduced to "it's academic, they are there to take magic shots, just get the cheapest" was frustrating. Have that changed? Also, seems players underutilized the province upgrades system in the last game, people not bothering to build anything but the most basic forts and temples. Is it worthwhile now to invest money on a province? Ps: I'm far more a CoE player if that serves as a reference
So 'scales armies' or normal troops are more viable longer since the things that kill scales armies unlock later and are harder to cast... (battlefield wide things) but mages are still good at killing things at a smaller scale depending on the circumstance. Troop choice matters a bit more too because theres some buffs that only work on certain types of units (blunt, slash, pierce). You cant really upgrade provinces more than dom5, still the same fort / lab / temple. So the game is a bit more troop focused, but its not radically different there, magic is still going to be important in mp games. So might not be worth a buy for you.
@@LucidTactics Perhaps, but the changes look exciting enough. I'll keep an eye on it and wait for a more generous deal. After all I understand that magic is more important because of resources and time investiment behind it, but the prospect of troops being more important as well as neutral expansion taking more effort really got my attention.
@@rafaelrodrigues7971 I felt the same when i played. That is why i havent played "early age", and i would say that "late age" are more normal troops oriented, right ? But im not an expert at the game. At least gems are less and gold is more in the late age.

yeah you want the nature dragons to cast personal regen (enchanment 3) and then probably just fire closest. Id also consider maybe a regen bless with the nature dragon - that will stack with casting personal regen giving 20% hp regen per turn. With that you should be able to take everything but barbs and maybe heavy cav. Could could also consider a poison resistence bless so your dragons wont kill your own sacreds with its breath.
I'm planning on doing just that haha. If they would have gave the game more of a face lift I'd have bought it day one. The maps especially could do with some work aswell as making the UO a bit better lol. It's still a bit bare bones. @@LucidTactics

I have literally never complained about a game before in a youtube comment. But what the hell is up with the pretender scales boosters? They don't stack with the innate scales modifiers of a nation? So take the Carrion Dragon. It has a growth+ modifier. But can it even be taken on a nation that doesn't already have a growth+ modifier? The +1 to growth scales literally does nothing. It serves no purpose. Next up the distribution of scales seems poorly thought out. There are zero pretenders with +1 fortunes scales in the european group. There are 4 or 5 in the middle eastern group. There are 2 in the east asian group. There is 1 in the egyptian group. This means quite a few nations are locked to 2 fortune or less. Arguably some of the +1 growth pretenders could have been +1 fortune instead. Thematically speaking. It needs a passthrough. Sorry for the rant. But when I saw the carrion dragon I just lost it. A straight up tease is what it was lol
Yeah that’s a point a lot of people don’t love. (Including me) So, basically illwinter wants there to be a lot more build variety in terms of scales with more things being 1&2 rather than most things +3 or -3. That’s one of the main reasons for the new system. As for pretender bonuses not stacking with national scales bonus’s, it’s because they want 4s&5s to be hard to get to (4/5 are supposed to be sorta undesirable too). Reasonable thing to be frustrated about, after playing the game a bit in beta I’m not too fussed about that anymore… but I do think they could figure out something better there.
I think it's actually quite well thought out. The MP meta was getting stale, and this is a way of encouraging people to use different Pretenders. Remains to be seen how the community adjust to it, and whether it's successful but something had to be done.
@@battlemode Quite a few nations have scales modifiers. Removing scale stacking actually makes a lot of pretenders a worse choice because it invalidates one of the ways they can affect your game.
