- Part 2 out now!! • Is It Fixed? Was It Wo...
Hello everyone, and welcome back to PSP, aka, Pawn Shop Pistols. I'm super excited about today's video, I love Hi-Point and I've always had a soft spot for them.
Unfortunately, this Hi-Point did not have a soft spot for me. We had some major malfunctions down at the range, which resulted in a much longer video than I originally wanted to make, so I hope you stick around to the end to see all of the issues we had.
I'm working on Part 2 right now, Hi-Point's customer service has been extremely helpful and didn't even question the malfunctions. I will post a follow-up soon!
Thanks for watching!

I own two Hi-Point pistols, a 9mm and a 45acp. Both are super reliable. I bought them years ago and paid less than $99.00 each for them. They are for my carry truck and fishing guns. They get beat up and kicked around and still keep on running. I would die before I did this to my Colt Python. Hi-Point should get an award for making guns this good and so cheap.
How many malfunctions have you had? Did you clean/oil them right out of the box?
I had a buddy who used to have one of these (RIP) the rear sight broke, one half the plastic was gone. I would not bet my life on one of these, I spent about three times the cost of this firearm for a M1911A1 that runs like an old Singer Sewing Machine. I also have an Astra A100 that has never jammed and I carried her for 5 years on the PD, no thanks for the HI-Point, perhaps for a pinker but never bet your life on a gun that jams.
Great channel, keep growing it i enjoy the content...I personally like High Points, built like a tank with the best warranty lifetime out there.
I have the CF38p...love it, very reliable!
I'm hoping the malfunctions I was having will be fixed when I get it back from Hi-Point. I'll be making a part 2 once I get it back!
I love my three Hi-Point firearms the C9, JXP10 and 995TS since they have all been accurate and reliable. I want to add a Hi-Point 380 to my Hi-Point and my 380 collections but unless I come across a really great deal I plan to wait for the YC380 rather than the CF380. Thanks for the video and keep shooting 😊.
Both the Hi-Point and SAR are striker-fired pistols (as opposed to hammer-fired). However, the Hi-Point is blowback operated, whereas the SAR is recoil operated.
The ammo was the problem. The slide is heavy. The ammo needs to provide enough energy to move all that mass.
Well if that's the case, hopefully Hi-Point tells me! I've got the gun shipped out to them now, and they said they'd test the ammo I used just to be sure. Your comment makes total sense! I think I'll try a couple different kinds at the range from now on to cover all bases.
You may have confused yourself a bit! The Blowback action can be wholly independent to a firearm's hammer functionality. You can totally have a striker fired handgun or rifle with any type of action. For example, A Glock has a striker fired handgun, but has a slide that locks into the barrel. A 1911 action has a similar locking barrel(in separate relation to the frame), but is hammer fired.
Ah! Good clarification! Thank you!
I use the recommended ammo in my CF380 and the C9 and they have worked 100% of the time. I like the 380 best as the recoil is extremely low.
I've owned several Hi-Point firearms, only problem I ever had was when I shot some WW2 ammo in the 45auto pistol which I can't blame the gun. I strongly recommend their products, their customer service is second to none
They practically gave me a whole gun for my part 2 video I uploaded a few days ago. It certainly shot a lot better!
Subscribed. Can't wait for part 2. Sent my C9 in to hi point. They rebuilt the entire thing. Only thing that was the same was the serial number. Even got an extra new mag. Unfortunately took 3 range trips for it to "break in". And start running correctly(ish).
Thanks for subscribing! I just got it back in the mail today, I'm excited to start filming part 2! Thanks for the heads up on the "break in" period. I've got 3 magazines to test now. My old one, the new one they sent me, and a 10 round I ordered from their website.
My Hi-point c9 was not reliable. Most times it fired when you pulled the trigger however every once in a while it malfunctioned. wouldn't rely on this firearm with my life. Sorry not sorry
I had idle curiosity about those, not that I ever did anything about it. Back when I was considering it, surplus guns like the Star BM and Bulgarian Makarov's were I6O or so. So I passed on the then 9O ish Hi Point CF-380. My cheap pistol experience was in the ring of fire section of the SNS market. The quality control and cheap expedient construction makes getting a lemon an unfortunate possibility. On the other hand they are the cheapest possible newly made semi automatic handgun, so I wouldn't be out much. If I went there. Good luck with round 2.
Thanks! I'm actually working on a video about one of the Ring of Fire pistols right now while I'm waiting to get this Hi-Point back, should be out soon!
Could the ammo used be the problem. The slide is pretty heavy
Yes, great point! I mention that in my part 2 video after I got it back from Hi-Point. From now on, I always use two separate brands of ammo when I do my reviews, and make sure they're two different grains as well!
Find out if they make their mags in house. Because if not... Promag might be making them. That's supposedly who makes the SCCY mags. Maybe even the Taurus mags too?
Good advice! I should see if there's a way to tell them apart.
Taurus mags are primarily made by Mec-gar however some are made in house. SCCY makes their mags in house and for a long time using a Pro mag in your Hi-Point would void the warranty. I think that policy has changed but I am not sure.
4 magazines and you call it?!
Where can you get one for $89
Well I got mine from my local pawn shop. Go check out your local pawns when you get a chance! Might get lucky!
Florida, I actually saw one sold for 60 bucks,...had really faded ugly look,...my friend put a snake skin gun wrap on it and takes to the range til this day.
This is just a piece of junk
