      @@colt45jb Yeah would be nice to see some Odin Lite gameplay, or a brief overview of it's Android 11 for emulation. I know retail units are not ready, but the prototypes are. I'm still deciding whether the Lite is sufficient or if I need to boost to the Base/Pro, but it's difficult without a comparison.

      Is there 4g capabilities on either versions of Odin. In your video you show a slot for a sim card on the light version and even mention the area where the 4g antenna would go. However you do not explain if you could add an antenna or not. Some clarification on both models would be great to know. Thanks for the awesome video.

    Great breakdown! It’s nice to see the lite and pro motherboards side by side. And that a great theory about the shoulder buttons, and seeing it side by side with the switch design proves it. I hope AYN will account for this on their next device 😏

    no, the fan directly on top would be worse .. this blower style fan is designed to push air across the finnstack, putting it right above would mean the processor heats up the fan, and thats it .. this design is already good, better would have only been a heatpipe radiator deal

    I dropped my Odin Pro and the L1 button broke (specifically, the contact on the PCB board). I sent Ayn an email asking if I could send it in for replacement and they sent me an “upgrade kit” containing both boards, shoulder buttons, ribbon cables, and even a screwdriver.
    I’m honestly surprised how easy this was to fix, coming from someone who’s never tried replacing one of these boards before. Also thanks for the teardown video it helped a lot with getting mine swapped without destruction.

  • @morphedrenegade
    @morphedrenegade 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    From what I have observed most of the switches unde L1 and R1 came broken from factory and thats due to negligence or rushing during assembly. If the the plastic trigger button is not placed properly from an angle and one side first it would not sit on top of the tiny black switch, instead it will apply pressure from side of the switch which if pressed under the trigger will bend the switch toward front of the device thus breaking it. It will still work but only with more pressure applied on trigger switch which will lapse with time rendering it unuseable completely eventually. It is a design flaw and quality issue. Im affected by this unfortunately and have not been able to enjoy my device.

      They have to have someone backing with money or the guy behind the company is quite rich. The development, manufacturing and distribution of the device didn't cost less than $5M USD given they need to make 10,000 units for a launch at the very least. Of course that if you tried to do this in USA, it would cost at least double, but probably triple that amount.

    My only concern with buying one of these is the L1 R1 shoulder button issue. It looks as though before I even start using the device that I should remove the rear housing on the unit and make sure the plastic shoulder buttons are installed correctly, and avoid using excessive force to prevent breaking the PCB side component.

    Would have been nice if the front cover over the controls was removable on each side instead of having to go through the back. Most of the repairs or mods people make on these systems is on the buttons. It is nice that the buttons have their own PCBs though. I hope some custom PCBs are in the works. As someone coming from Gamecube controller modding, the way the Odin handles analog triggers is LEAGUES better, even conceptually. Having a magnet giving precise readings is far superior to a physical slider that has to be housed within the shell. I imagine it wouldn't be too hard, given the right firmware, to adjust the trigger's actuation point (as opposed to NGC where you have to physically alter the triggers).

    • @frankchau

    • @seouljah760
      @seouljah760 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SargeMustang I did, I also bought 2 different 5g antennas, and I'm pretty sure they work fine. The problem is that I believe there is a baseband issue, or MediaTek D900 does not operate the same 5g bands as T-Mobile or Verizon in the USA. I tried both, and only the T-mo would connect to 5g, but it would pop in and out of 5g a LOT with all 3 different antennas if I was indoors. So much that it was battery drain. To be fair, the 4g works just fine. I was able to make calls, text, and use data around 300+ Mbps on MINT. Right now they have their buy 3 get 3 months free deal, and I'm using it to type this. If you use it on the go, turning on 5g while outdoors seems to work much better, even with the stock antenna. I did have to mess with the APN settings to get it working properly to begin with though.

    • @SargeMustang
      @SargeMustang ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@seouljah760 huh that’s really interesting… I’m using T-Mobile myself and my specs and signal are so bad I was hoping I could get some better performance if I upgraded antennas. For instance, sitting here with my iPhone and when switched down to lte I’m pulling 129 down, 5g breaks 300. But the Odin is just sitting on edge…

It seems disengenious to have the fan shown right after the spec sheet of all 3 devices on the IGG if only 2 of the models will come with fan. For this reason, I never even considered that the Lite would not have a fan. 0:36 is incorrect - for the device to come undone without a screwdriver, simply boot up Space Invaders Atari 2600 on the Odin and the screws automatically unwind and the system falls apart, leaving a hands-free opening experience (but also the possibility of a fried board and components inside).

      The problem is that you can’t legally install Space Invaders Atari 2600 unless you own a copy of the original cartridge. I mean, those are practically impossible to find and very expensive when you do.

    I think there won't be a cooling fan in the Lite version due the design of the PCB. That is a shame because the lite version already don't have displayport output (and I didn't order a dock because of that).

    ...the Lite not only runs a Mediatek chip for some reason even though it was pitched as the "199$ Snapdragon Handheld", but it lacks active cooling when it was said TO HAVE IT? And the Dimensity 900 running HOTTER than the SD845?
    The heatsink looks incredibly confusing too. Why on earth is most of it vestigial and not touching the chips?
    What is the market goal for this? The Pro (which is what was ACTUALLY advertised and yet costs far more than the listed original price) is 250$ *at least* and in reality it will be higher now due to shipping/etc. It's encroaching way too close to the 399$ Steam Deck.
    The actual device is priced fairly as far as I can tell, as actual high-end companies who can get wholesale stuff/etc. wouldn't even be able to put together a device this solid or speced for 250$, it's stronger than most 250$ smartphones, for instance.
    Android and ARM can't hope to compare to Windows/Linux and x86 in terms of gaming.
    It's also pitching itself on repair friendliness, but who's supplying the parts? If it's AYN, shipping and sourcing may be an issue. I don't think it is them though as Taki made it a point to keep showing alternative parts you can use, like Switch batteries (which will be in production probably for longer than WE are alive with how popular it is), Vita D-Pads, etc. Screen may be an issue to source. That probably has to come from AYN?

It still charges but that's all it can do and yes, I've tried booting it into safety mode with the volume and power button combo, but the black screen still shows regardless. Any help would be appreciated.
