Hey y’all! If you want to have a visual update of how it is living in Colorado in 2023 check out my recent Vlog th-cam.com/video/c2iwPTp4EMs/w-d-xo.html In the Vlog I show things that I do in a week and some summer activities 💞
Great info! My government job brought me to Colorado so the financial aspect isn't an issue for me. I've been exploring different areas. My son recently finished his freshmen year at UCCS and he definitely sees the low key racism but because we've lived all over the world, abroad and domestically we don't allow them to stop how we move. Yes it is very dry here so yes shea butter and olive oil are your friend. Yes l don't mind spending money on my locs if its done right. My son actually found a good barber. I usually shop online but there is a nice outlet close to me in Denver so l go there sometimes. I've had some really good interactions so far. I live in the Denver metro area and my rent is considered high but l think its average and l'm in nice quiet area.
Watching from Albany NY. I have moved around a lot. From South Carolina to Atlanta Georgia, to Los Angeles Cali, now Upstate NY. I'm trying to move to an area where there is more black ppl and pays pretty good
Thanks for watching! Honestly, the black population in Colorado could never compare to New York, Cali, or Atlanta. It’s majorly Caucasian here, but there are little pockets of black communities like Aurora, and South Colorado Springs based on areas I’ve frequented myself as a woman from the diaspora living here. As for pay, that’s not something you need to worry about because pay is pretty good here, especially when you have a trade, or education in STEM fields.
I know that you state to not worry about the "subtle" forms of prejudice that others may express towards Black people and that you simply don't "focus" on them.......but when one's "subtle" prejudice and bias turns into discrimination within the workplace and other areas of our lives that impact our wellbeing then it is something that we need to be made aware of. Otherwise, great and informative video!
That is true @Princess I agree that if it becomes a hindrance on our lives and spaces there should be action. I also address my current position with this in the business space in Colorado. Check it out in this Vlog: th-cam.com/video/ddXay8zFI5A/w-d-xo.html

@@GiftedYoungOne Thank you! I’m happy you enjoyed it! Honestly, the Pandemic wiped out so many businesses especially small Caribbean and Black businesses, so I don’t have any Caribbean style parties that are reoccurring in mind at this time.
My daughter will be graduating high school next year and I'm seriously considering leaving GA for the Denver area. I don't know anyone there but I've heard it's nice.
Congratulations to your daughter on her milestone 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 It is nice in Denver, just ensure that you have a financial plan and housing lined up. Those are most crucial.
Thanks so much for your content. This really helped. Right now Colorado is the best but I want to fully be prepared for the move. Thanks for your help!
Jamaican here. Was searching for Caribbean community in Co and found your video. Me and the wife and kids might be visiting Co between now and December. We are looking to leave FL. We just visited NC. The mountains reminded me a LOT of Jamaica. Next trip is either Colorado or Tennessee. My only concern though os the winter weather in Co. How cold does it get fi black people 😂😂😂 Mandeville raised me but been in S FL 30+ years. We would prefer someplace family friendly and a little ways out of a major city. 20 to 30 minutes drive to the city is good for us. We are outdoors people. Any tips would be appreciated
Hi Yaadie! Thanks for watching. Dwl yes winter is October through February here. My advice for proximity to the city would be Centennial, Highlands Ranch or Aurora. Aurora is closest to Denver if the three I mentioned and more populated with black and brown. I can recommend a good Jamaican restaurant which is Reggae Pot Jamaican Grill located at 7562 S University Blvd, Centennial 80122. Family friendly and good quality food. Great outdoor attractions all over Colorado including the Botanical Gardens summertime, for the Fall and Winter Season checking the City of Denver website or Eventbrite is a good resource for outdoor and indoor events all around the state. If here in December Skiing or snowboarding are a must try! Lots of hiking trails and recreational parks are free and safe to the public 😊 Hope this helps and I hope wherever you choose to visit you have a safe and wonderful time!😊
Hello, so glad to come across your video and realizing your a fellow Jamaican like myself.. My name is Racquel and I just subscribed to your channel on TH-cam. I was just browsing and doing a bit of research because I’m contemplating relocating from Florida to Colorado Springs in the earlier part of 2024 so much thanks for putting your video out there. I know nothing of this state but greatly appreciate the info which you have shared on the economy, jobs, food, socializing , self care etc…. Definitely love our culture so Caribbean food and products is a must.. This will be an entirely new world for me so looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks much.
@@EmpressMoxie LMAO thank you for the quick reply. Funny enough earlier today I was watching a black American couple talking about CO. Video was about 3 years old though. They did mention that Aurora had the highest percentage of black people BUT they said it was the "hood". Don't really know what they meant by that, like if it was ghetto and unsafe or if they meant hood juts because it was more "colored". The wife mentioned that she was from the hood/ghetto so my guess is that's what they meant. But it's so unfortunate because I have looked at quite a lot of cities over the last couple years and always it's the case that the higher the black population the more violent. Smh Anyway, how BRUTAL are the Colorado Winters????? 😂😂 I've come to the conclusion that I will have to deal with snow if I am to live the way I truly want to live. Smh
@@PoetClbrown They meant hood as in quality of housing and access to certain services and grocery stores compared to the other gentrified areas. It is actually true in that context, but Aurora is in close proximity to Denver so it’s not that serious if just visiting. The Colorado winters are not as bad a Boston or Chicago, but we go as low at -2 in deep winter periods. Outside of that our snow doesn’t usually stick and melts the next day if overnight snow.
@@Blk_NRGwell I haven’t experienced any racism yet. But they are kind of rude here lol nothing like Mississippi. It randomly rains here, it’s cold in the morning and hot in the day. It’s hard to breathe, but the mountains are beautiful 😻 the prices are insane. That’s about it lol
Love the video! Can you speak more to the other cities on the west side of Denver regarding poc in the population? Specifically Westminster, Arvada, Lakewood, and Middleton?
What kind of wildlife is abundant near housing? Are there a lot of insects? I am curious I am currently in Florida and there are lizards, iguanas birds just want to know what’s there.
Squirrels, skunks, smal foxes, deer, owls and other singing birds. Up in the mountains are the more serious wildlife like bears, rattle snakes and mountain lions. Of course, it’s important to remember that the visibility of these animals is seasonal.
Where do you go to get your locs done? Can you recommend one or two locations that may have a good diversity of people? I’m glad I found this video. Your very informative and so sweet! I lived in Colorado for a short period and plan on moving back but at the time I didn’t have locs.
I wanted to ask her the same because my son has 2 strand twist. His sister worked in Moab UT with him for the season so she kept his hair done. She just did it before she left last week, but he stated there is some one out where he is moving that does hair for people of color. He has PLENTY lotion...LMAO
Hello, I do my own locs. I know a loctician here, but she’s setting up her books at the moment. Once I have more information I will respond to your comment again. Outside of that, I’d suggest sites like Styleseat to browse and see reviews of locticians available.
Gentrification is only happy for realtors. Boulder isn't expensive because of white people, it's the most expensive college town in Colorado. My best friend forementioned dates white girls. My Colorado experience from a native. I would love to go to Jamaica.
Hi, @CW. Okay, that’s South Florida. I’m aware most parts of Florida pay $8/hr. In Colorado majority of the places start paying at $15 regardless of the $12.56 min wage. I was stating minimum wage for an understanding.
