My grandmother is featured in this video. She is sitting at the table with the cigarette with her friends. She passed away in 2009 in Denver, Co. My mother's father had a record store in the 5 Points off Welton st. 'Salmen Records'. Thank you! God bless

I grew up in Park hill, born and raised, I loved that you are adding Colorado to your adventure, so glad that you are representing the five points, very important park of our history, and the red lining the black folks had to experience, and how it has been gentrificated all through the neighborhoods.

Born in Chicago, raised in the Five Points area. Denver is HOME to me. When you showed the montage of black businesses on the Points, I was having flashbacks as a child going in them during the 50s and 60s. I was hollering with joy, back down memory lane. I no longer live in Denver, this was simply wonderful and thank you so much.

I'm from Denver. My dad was a major businessman in 5 points you showed his old shop several times in the vid. My uncle was a plaintiff in the original case to de-segregation the Denver public schools. As a young black musician, I played several of the Black clubs before they were gentrification. You put out a lot of great info. a lot of black folks, new to the city. don't get because many move to the burbs and never even find the"hood". they don't learn about the city. It was a great place to grow up in the 60's. A small ( by Eastern standards) but vibrant, safe, positive black community. Great concrpt for a youtube channel. Keep up the good work!

I'm a Native of Denver Eastside and I'm 3rd Generation. My family has been here for over 100 years. It was cool to see y'all travel and speak on it. The 70's and 80's were really cultural. Gentrification destroyed that starting in the late 90's. Denver is turning into Central America now. I didn't know about the two Black owned spots. I'm going to check them out.

I LOVE THIS!!! I sit somewhere super central downtown next to the South Platte/LoHi/RiNo/5 Points. You painted a beautiful picture of these Denver Gems. As an StL Native till a permanent move in ‘09, I still struggle to love that long, straight shot from Colfax back to The Lou to see Fam; but I appreciate you both taking the time to make & share meaningful stops that more people should have the opportunity to consider, ponder & appreciate. Some of these spots for years have left me happy, grateful, well fed and even less homesick at times. This was beautifully done. I hope you do more for CO. It’s getting better, but there’s so much more BA Black history to Colorado that I’m still loving & learning about and it deserves so much more recognition and awareness.
I wasn’t even looking for this channel but I just subscribed.
There’s more MO natives here than most realize…anytime the Cards or Blues come out, we definitely show out and you know.

It's cool you guys do this! Most black people don't travel to these cities like this. I travel and am working on a food and travel channel myself. It's cool to see what's in states like Washington, Utah or Colorado. It's the final frontier! Up until I went to college in Illinois in the year 2000 people asked “there are black people in Denver?” with genuine surprise. It’s funny. The Air Force brought my parents to Denver from Chicago in the late 70s. All their children were born here. If it’s only 8%now I bet the percentage of black people 30-40+years ago was even lower. I grew up in Montbello.

I’m from Milwaukee and now live in DC. I have traveled all over the world and, until recently, the one constant I would hear is, “There are black people in Milwaukee?” Not only are there black people there, it is the largest minority population in the city.
I often feel a kindred spirit with black communities in cities outside of New York, L.A., etc. I know that we’re everywhere. Pretty much anyplace you’ve ever heard of has a rich black history. Let’s keep lifting each other up ✊🏾

The Black neighborhoods in Denver were wiped out. Denver was sweet in the '70s and '80s. The Black neighborhoods got cracked out in the late 80s and 90s and a lot of Black people went to prison. Denver got gentrified under Freemason Black Mayors in the 90s and there is not one Black neighborhood left. Denver Blacks are strange.

I went to college in Denver back in 2000, and then moved back for a job from 2017-2022. You guys are being too generous LOL. The Black American West History Museum is great. Also did you know that Madame CJ Walker lived not too far from Five Points for a little bit, although her residence isn't marked. The. klan history in Denver runs deep......and I wonder if that's why there is not the feeling of inclusiveness. Denver has has TWO black mayors, Welllington Webb, and Mike Hancock. However, it feels like the only time you see black foks out en masse was during Jazz Fest and the Juneteenth festival. And Iived about 6 blocks from Five Points and barely saw black folks out and about. Weird place! My best advice for folks visiting is to head straight to the mountains, the food in Denver is terrible and the city overall lacks culture.but the access to the Rockies can't be beat.

@@TravelingWhileBlack1 there’s good people here but the good/evil ratio is the worst I’ve experienced. They are insidious and perfidious. I’ve lived in So. Cal and the mid Atlantic area as well as overseas. If you stay more downtown it’s okay but head to the east of Powers it gets clany. I live in a newer neighborhood and have several black neighbors who probably relocated here as well. Across the street to the older part, there were people who flew the confederate flag and harassed a neighbor’s black partner. Look up El Paso county black ranchers for a sick story. A lot of people are afraid to trust strangers, again compared to where I’ve been, and you may visit and have a good time. Safe travels

I am a Colorado native, and Denver, at one point, did have a thriving black community. I would've never equated it to Harlem by any stretch of my imagination though. Now, all Colorado has is black history. It's not a place where the black community is thriving in any longer, IMO. Most of the blacks here treat each other terribly, especially the black women.

That is wild to compare a kind of descriptive terminology to a simple crayon that didn't choose to be black but to become one of the most important of all color crayons. The base, the foundation upon which to build. America owes reparations, not an inheritance as if we are all Sally Hemmings's illegitimate offspring of Thomas Jefferson. When we use "Black" we honor the American slave, not the indentured servant pretending to be the family of an oppressor.
