Thank you so much for this video, I’m moving to Portland in about 6 months from BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA. I’m super nervous yet again so excited to step outside my comfort zone and explore different parts of the world. I am a little nervous about finding black spaces, where I can connect with people but your video really gave me relief that I can fit into this new city. THANK YOU and THANK YOU!
I’ve been feeling the pull to Portland…from Philly. The weather is the SAME here in the winter. It amazes me no one talks about how similar the weather in the NE area is to Portland/Seattle, especially since we haven’t been getting nearly as much snow as we used to. To me, it feels like a dead zone of hustle and bustle, smog and dread, moving fast to go nowhere lol.
Hello, I just moved here in March. I am from Louisiana and about 5 hours from Dallas. I am used to the gloomy days, I lived in Denver before moving here. I would say take you some vitamin D. For the food I heard a lot of great things about Matts's BBQ, and for soul food try screen door. I would also recommend a food cart called chicken and guns. I am a foodie so if you have any recommendations please share them.
Rise and Shine!!! Will be making the transition to Portland in a few months. Would you kindly give any tips regarding where to explore for apartments and what the housing ranges are please? Thank you.
Hi! I have another video on this, but honestly neighborhoods will depend on your specific needs/lifestyle. Beaverton, Hillsboro are more suburban and secluded from the city. NW/Slabtown has a lot of older apartments but very charming area close to dining, shopping and entertainment. I also hear there are some really cool neighborhoods on the SE side but I’m not as familiar with that area!
Oh! I feel like on *average* rent can be around $1500-1700 but obviously that can range can change based on the neighborhood you’re in and size of the space. Hope that helps!
Ugh I’ve been in pdx for a few months from atl and NEEDED this video- thought i was the only one feeling this! Also have you tried fire on the mountain? To me, those are definitely the best wings in the area.
I wouldn’t recommend moving here as Black person, it’s super segregated and the KKK operated here until the somewhere around the early 90s right by the one “black neighborhood.” The black population is like less than 5% and is the smallest minority group in Portland, which is continuing being pushed out. The white liberal people are the typical passive aggressively racial ignorant who tell you they voted for Obama twice unprompted (but then voted for Trump). The Black community she’s referring is mostly the typical Light skinned folks with a Black father and a White mother archetype that participate heavily in respectability politics. “Girrrrl, you in danger. The amount of Black folks that I personally was acquainted and classmates with who were ok white folks say the N word with an A was very uncomfortable. Oregon is essentially white utopia, it once the Whites only state, and you couldn’t own property as a black person until the mid-90’s.
hii!! My girlfriend and i want to move to Portland from New Jersey! Ive been looking for jobs and Apartments. ughh i feel like i have so many questions! LMAO
@@adoseofdai Its definitely hard trying to find a job due to the fact that we wont be able to start right away. How was it in saving and making sure you had enough to do such a big move and have enough for the apartment.
It doesn’t snow much but it shuts the city down. They do not know how to drive in it. You use to have to put chains on your tires but that might have changed
How was it moving to Oregon as a black person? Not many black people is fine (easier for me to relate to them haha), but do you feel welcome? Is there any nuanced discrimination, or are you comfortable?
It's relative - if you're from LA, NYC, SF etc. it's cheaper for sure. If you're from smaller towns or low cost of living cities in the Midwest (for example), you're in for some sticker shock. Housing is the big one - low supply and pretty spendy to rent or buy.
I hope someone informs her that Oregon was once the only whites only state. And the “designated black neighborhood” was located in close proximity to the KKK who operated until before the mid 90s, so do the basic math…
You would be surprised how black people who grew up here didn’t know any this. Be prepared and expect that a a very good amount (particular the men)of people in your community to not have solidarity with you because I’ve witness my Black friends laughing at Anti-black jokes, or randomly shitting on black women by other black women. I hope you are able built a network of a community. ❤❤
There's no more black neighborhoods everybody's on one side of the fence then the other people who live in Portland we're spread out once it's a lot of homelessness here on the streets are mayor Ted wheeler is mentally ill walking the streets attacking people and stuff is really not good place to come to
SUCH an underrated video. Beaverton in the 90s is ALWAYS how i remember portland. Now Orange county. Subscribed ✅️

Welcome to Portland! 🤗 I’ve tried Fire on the Mountain and it’s not my favorite but it’s definitely one of the better options haha
I’m looking for a change from the Midwest. Over this flatness 😅 Portland is on my list so I’m happy to find this channel! Just subbed ❤

As a former Beaverton resident. Previous Minneapolis local. Now oc. Once experiencing the West Coast. You'll never go back
Also live in Dallas and entertaining the idea of moving next year. This video was helpful ♥️
Did you end up moving?
Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing.
💕loved the vid!
Thanks for watching! 💓
Hit up Fire on the Mountain for wings!!!
Nice video. It’s always good to hear others perspective of this city. From a local: Willamette rhymes with Dam it
Please do more videos like this please 🙌🏿🙌🏿
Hi. I want to travel to Portland with my toddler. Do you have any suggestions or can you redirect me to some sources so I can plan accordingly ?
Also no good Caribbean food places, central and South American.
Hi thanks for making the PDX videos? Have you visited any churches or know of good ones to visit?
One year later how do you feel about Portland?
I love it! The city has grown on me 🤗

Just subscribed! Im looking to move to Portland in less than a year. Do you have any neighborhoods you would recommend to move to?
Yasss to the PDX vlogs 🤩 “Outside but in bed by 9” 😂 literally me.
It’s the only way 😂
I’m moving there in a month from Vegas. Are the roads well maintained in the winter? I’ve driven in snow but Portland looks hilly.

@@melissaawesome9403 Thank you.
Where is the blk community at then??? Cause I live in Portland for 15 years straight. and on and off for the last 5… so where at? Plz explain

Definitely feel comfortable & welcome! I moved from Texas so racism/discrimination is not new to me haha.
@@adoseofdai I’m possibly moving from Dallas also. Overall any regrets??
Hey, WHat brought you to PDX?
What area did you stay in Portland Oregon?
Is it expensive to live in Portland?
