    We all learned about old-style steering... I am an owner, and it took me half a day to figure it out....the next day, I drove it 1000 Kiliomters. No issue, stress-free.... we love our truck...

    It’s always funny to me listening to folks that don’t have much in the way of off-road experience reviewing this beast in the same way one would review the details and performance of an actual road focused vehicle. But I get it. It’s a very comfortable road capable tractor, lol, that can go play in the nastiest dirt box right off the showroom floor. As soon as you’re off-road and your front tire punches a stump in a sporty rack and pinion steering box which sends the steering wheel instantly spinning with forces that want to rip your finger off, it changes the impression of what seems to be too much steering wheel involvement in the Grenadier. If you approach the review from how well incredibly mannered this thing is on pavement when it’s specific design intention is to reliably crawl through some of the most intense off-road circumstances all day every day, it give a far more accurate depiction of just exactly how incredible the Grenadier truly is. If someone buys the Grenadier and barely uses it off-road, that sucker will be solid as a bank vault for 20 years or more. It’s definitely going to be fun to drive as a novelty. But if you want to really be impressed and truly appreciate why having a few more wheel turns in the steering in a positive light, find a ridiculous trail that regularly requires one wheel searching for the ground because the suspension is articulated to its maximum length over and over. Then drive down a corrugated road for 20 miles and notice that in the Grenadier you still have a full front row of pearly’s to smile with. THEN you will have a true appreciation for the very specific and very intentional reasons this vehicle was designed exactly the way it is. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

    You need to adopt a proper driving technique for this type of vehicle. Both hands and feed the whee technique make things much easier. Steering does settle in after a few thousand miles.

    I have 3,000 miles on my Grenadier Trial Master. It’s fantastic on and off road. The gas tank has a range of 260-280 miles. The steering is not an issue. It’s actually a more stout recirculating ball vs rack n pinion. Remember, this is primarily an off road vehicle. It’s purpose built. The over speed click warning is turned off by one menu click by saving the menu as a “Favorite”.

    • @RootBeerGMT
      @RootBeerGMT 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Seems like a larger tank would be an excellent idea. The current range is about like a Tesla. My Denali will go around 400 miles.

    • @andyorr1597
      @andyorr1597 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@RootBeerGMT A larger tank would almost certainly compromise off road capability. The Grenadier prioritizes its off road chops at almost every design level decision. There are ample other ways to carry extra fuel when it’s necessary. Tesla’s and Denali’s aren’t made for the trails.

    It isn't designed for driving with one hand at the top of the wheel like some drug dealer or bad taxi driver. Hold the wheel at 9 & 3 with thumbs on the parts of the wheel that look like they are designed to rest your thumbs on (surprise surprise) . Sit high and adjust the wheel to suit. It is a robust 4WD with recirculating ball steering, not rack & pinion, due to the solid front axle. Drive it accordingly. If you want an SUV or a sports car then this is not for you.

      @@RoadandTract Well you are not meant to drive while using your phone however if you do, then don't judge how hard the vehicle is to steer. Clearly it would have been a totally different steering experience if you were holding the wheel with two hands correctly.

    Pretty awesome vehicle, with the black eye of a large turning radius. I have been informed that the large turning radius comes inherently with solid axles and the kind of steering that doesn’t break your thumbs off road when you take a solid hit on a front wheel.
    City street deep big potholes can do that, too…

    I opted for the Sterling Silver to help mitigate the summer heat/sun. However, if I lived in a cooler region in the U.S. I would have selected a dark color, likely black. The black looks very cool.

    It looks so awesome because it looks so much like the original Land Rover Defender which they stopped producing a few years ago. It is a timeless shape for the original workhorse and off-road explorer. This is the Vehicle Land Rover should have developed! Unfortunately the original quoted price blew out by 40-50%. At the asking price people would be loath to really explore for fear of damaging it! But its a truly great vehicle with excellent options.

    There’s no room under it for a bigger tank either, which is unfortunate. The diesel would travel 500 miles between refills but I prefer vehicles that will travel up to and beyond 600 miles on the highway. Obviously a long range tank would be even more of an advantage on remote trails.

      Tons of options for hanging Rotopax or Jerry cans. The L track is strong enough to carry gas. The available roof rack can carry a bunch of Jerry cans as can the molle panels for the rear side windows.

      Having to turn it off every time the vehicle is started is not a good thing. They should update their software to fix that permanently.

    • @peopleschamp7258
      @peopleschamp7258 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @RoadandTract again the vehicle was not made specifically for the United States and if it wasn't regulations, it wouldn't have had the ADAS. In the end a fix is in the works and the US will have ability to turn if off permanently. Another example of the uniqueness of the US market. We don't have amber turn signals ROW they have three turn signals but USA uses the brake light. These quirks will pop up when you are building a glo al platform.

  • @AlphaMontero
    @AlphaMontero หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This is a purpose built off road vehicle, not a luxury SUV, so your not going to have a heated steering wheel or adaptive cruise control, or power seats. The steering is meant to be the way it is for off road purposes. It has a recirculating ball steering so that when you hit rocks or holes, the steering wheel doesn't jerk out of your hands. You don't want rack and pinion steering for off road or overlanding.

    Excellent overview/ drive video. Very exhaustive! Good stuff. I’ve driven the diesel one. Would opt for diesel personally. I can get that in eu understand in us diesel is not really common. All though the zr2 1500 just came out with a diesel as well for us market. The 3ltr duramax. So there’s that. I liked the ride. Didn’t like the turn radius at all. Funny comment about that being like that because it’s geared for off-road, indeed makes zero sense. I suspect it’s a design after thought or rubbing issue or whatever. Who wants a wider turn radius when going off-road. Exactly, no one. Otherwise cool car, bit tractor like. Also the snorkel was a bit wind noisy, and the diesel engine same ish. Although fine. Cheers.

    • @hedydd2
      @hedydd2 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s a direct result of using a live front axle with double UJ’s for a constant velocity. Basically it is a tractor type axle and these are usually limited to 60 degrees steering angle. The new Ranger truck has a far longer wheelbase but a yard tighter turning circle. The tractor axle is also the reason that it must have recirculating ball steering box and the shimmy and lack of precision and feedback that comes with that kind of package.

      It’s the B58 inline 6 cylinder 3.0 liter twin turbo. It’s the same engine that Toyota selected for the Supra. Yes, the Toyota Supra is powered by a BMW drivetrain. That should tell you everything you need to know. Obviously the engine is tuned differently for the Grenadier. But I understand your concern. I had a N54 engine in a 535 wagon.
