Ngl. The alien voicing is hilarious! The last guy was impressive. The polish and finishing touches he added made the game feel more completed. Maybe you could do a special double round development for a more complex style of game?
Those alien voices have a Hollow Knight feel- love it! We are definitely thinking of making a larger scale Pass the Game Challenge where devs have more time.
yea that’s something i’ve suggested a few times, once thru for basic features, and then once thru again for polish, bug fixes, and other smaller changes. also would be neat to see something where you have people making assets without knowing what the game is and then they need to be repurposed (only minor changes) to be used in the game
I have an idea to expand on this project activity: A number of devs make a game without communication, but the game is cycled through the line of devs a second time. Meaning that each dev gets to work on the game 2 separate times Edit: Whoa! 100+ likes! Thanks everyone! Edit: and now at 300+ likes! Many thanks! First time a comment has gotten that many likes
There is a really interesting strategic move in this game. If you are about to be destroyed by another player, the correct move is often to throw yourself at an NPC enemy att the last second to deny the other players your money.
Thanks for inviting me Noa! It was a ton of fun to get to participate and play the game with all the other devs. Whoops for turning it into a PvP game lol
I'm surprised no one thought of a power up shop that uses the money and a point leader-board system from killing the enemies but I did like a lot of what DevBanana added
Awesome video, absolutely love these game dev challenges, they always lead to such amazing results. One thing I’ve noticed is because Noa tends to be near the beginning of the challenge, often the games art style have his signature look to them. They look really cool, but it would be really interesting to see Noa be placed towards the end of a challenge, and then have to adapt his style to someone else’s art. Could be a nice challenge/put you out your comfort zone. Awesome work though, keep producing this series I absolutely love it!
I think it would be cool to do this concept while passing the game around for two or three cycles. Everyone would have more chances to modify the game and it would overall be more polished.
I love watching these videos by more knowledgeable game developers. I'm only at the beginning of my journey, doing the Full Time Game Dev course by Thomas Brush, and I think what you guys can do in 4 hours would take me 4 weeks.
Love these videos, just wish we got to see a slightly more finished game! Whether that be more time per turn, more participants, a second round of passing, progressively more time for each participant, or anything else. Feels like it always ends right as its getting to the best part.
Love this series! My fav game Dev series currently! I love finding these new Devs I hadn't watched before too! I would have loved a reaction of when people first play the game too, particularly since it started as a co-op and ended as a competitive game haha . Also, I just wanted to check, did everyone have 4 hours or 5 this time? (DevBanana had a graphic where it went from 5 hours down to 3.5 after he spent 1.5hrs on something)
You know Jason is legit because what he did was very simple and feasible and actually achievable in the allotted time. Often with these game dev challenges I highly doubt that what people did was within the time frame.
This actually turned out great! I'd love to see a shop/buy mechanic, so players could swap cash for more power, so short term loss for longer term rewards.
I love the little enemies you created initially. I don't have much skill when it comes to drawing, so I struggle when it comes to obtaining assets for a project. The enemies created sort of painted a picture in my mind of how to make a simple 2D model. I forget that I should break it all down into basic shapes lol.
This feels like a really good hangout game. One of those games you and your mates hop on for some last bit of fun before logging off and going to bed. I like the simplicity of it, you just go in and survive while trying to kill the other players. If it was more polished and had proper servers, I would absolutely love it. Nevertheless, this was a great episode!
You guys should do one where they can't remove anything only add to things (they can change the function slightly or appearance but the relative idea of the thing is the same)
Hello Prod! I've been planning to re-RE-make Rumble In The Void again and really like your art style! I did your planet tutorial which encourages the viewer to use your art style for it. The game I plan to make will contain a lot of elements as in the one you made for THIS video. I'll be using Construct 2 as usual, and Photon for the first time, for the networking. I'd love any tips or advice for it, and if it's okay to use this video as inspiration, if I end up making said game?
maybe passing the game game should have 2 rounds instead of one by this way they could add other things that they were intending to implement or get blown away by seeing totally ifferent game
I think coop is better. if you die you lose half money, then the end of each round lets you upgrade. (friendly fire is still up) The end goal is to kill the spawners (with a ridiculous amount of regen) and strengthens the less spawner is alive
I love this type of videos, also I want to become a game developer as well and maybe start my own company and TH-cam channel. I’m only 17 years old and still in school so I have time after school to learn about game development. Anyway great game and great video ❤
What if the devs didn’t start their 4 hour timer until after they’ve looked at the game and the code as much as they like? That way they contribute 4 hours of development, as opposed to devoting part of their time to just parsing the stare of the project?
@@DevBanana oh really??? I didn’t catch that! Man coding must be hard XD!!!! Thanks for the reply, I love watching your stuff! Really great concept! :3
I thought the game was gonna become something like using mi ey to get upgrades, I feel like a lot,of these games have timers. Timers restrict gameplay, they take a game that could be fun and last for awhile to something that is only going to be a min or two. The reason why a timer is usually added is because otherwise they will have to add more stuff to make the game more playable. Personally I feel like using a timer especially almost IN EVERY GAME makes everything feel repetitive. You can have a timer for round 1 or something, but then give everyone another chance to add stuff, or just more time in the first place then after round 2, you could have a simple timed game, and maybe something a bit more enticing.
I loved the video, but i think it would be great if you leave the art to someone else, just to see how different the game would be then always using your own art style, even thought its amazing but differentiation would be nice!
Happy new year! Tricky question, should we make a VR Pass the Game Challenge OR a board game Pass the Game challenge next?
Board Game 🤩
WOW both are ambitious but I'd love to see what this process looks like for a VR game!
Vr because then it would put up a bit more of a challenge and it would be more interesting
I want a vr game also happy new year and this is my favourite series pls keep it up love you!
Make a vr pass the game challenge next, also Happy New Year! Keep it up guys, I love your content
Personally i like it when all the devs who didn't communicate get to play the game at the end

good idea actually, i wanna see how they can manage that!
@@Blackthornprod Do you think you'd be able to gather enough people to make an actual gamejam out of this idea where people are randomly matched?
yea that’s something i’ve suggested a few times, once thru for basic features, and then once thru again for polish, bug fixes, and other smaller changes. also would be neat to see something where you have people making assets without knowing what the game is and then they need to be repurposed (only minor changes) to be used in the game

Thanks :) !!

I love that they all played it together at the end! Definitely adds a lot more to the video.
Very cool, was a lot of fun, just wish i'd been there for the gameplay! :)
I wish more TH-camrs did things like this they’re very entertaining and generally fun to watch
What about having a 10 minute final round where is passes between all of the devs so that any minor bugs/art will be fixed?

would ruin the surprise reaction at the end

Wow I was just binging your previous devjam vids! This is a great channel and I’m stressed I haven’t found it before.
Welcome aboard!
Lol the first dev being unable to do anything past making the multiplayer work is so relatable
It’s nice seeing the devs improve and try to stay with one style rather than removing sections
Here are my predictions for the video: there will be a centipede
