This is one of the, if not the best pass the game challenge I have seen yet. I honestly hope they spend a little more time on it make it a full game. In fact I’ll probably be willing to pay a few dollars for the game as is (with a global leaderboard)
Everything looks really nice, only thing I didn't like is the change to a pure black floor. Has no depth(?) to it visually and it makes the black enemy outlines useless
The best pass the game challenge so far. Everyone contributed, no one deleted a core part of the game, everyone built on what was there. Massive props to all the devs.
this has to be my favorite video from this series! boss ideas: Trojan horse- a fast giant blocky horse that drops little versions that dash towards you while the horse runs away. Spam- a boss that drops a bunch of pop ups windows you need to close to make the boss temporarily vulnerable. mouse Curser- a mouse curser that can curse you with spells, like maybe makes an area slow you or something. suggestions: change player model, honestly thats about it. seems fun
This one went so well! Nobody added random stupid crap or threw away good work, which is refreshing. There were clear differences of opinion yet the end result was cohesive and really shows everyone's efforts coming together.
This is quite possibly one of the best games to come out of this series. Genuinely impressive how it simply became better and better in every aspect as it was passed from developer to developer. Great video!
Agreed! He polished nicely, and had a colab vibe. No ganking etc, just putting in best work he could for it. Did he also name to bosses etc? Reified the theme, there (aka made concrete) (PS Some of us do like the black floor better!)
I weirdly came across this channel a couple of days ago and just randomly watched like 12 of your videos today. These have been absolutely amazing and glad to see another one pop up today!
I love it except for the last dev's decision to switch it to black. I really liked the clean white laboratory look it had before. 😕 (Nothing against the dev though, the rest of his edits were awesome!)
This game is insane man, it's amazing! So beautiful, so creative, so well done, the core mechanic is just brilliant, and everyone really added to the core really well! I hope this continues to get developed and shipped! If this game gets shipped, and I'm not as broken then as I am now, I'm totally willing to pay for it! I love the idea of WASD codes to activate abilities! God that's such a good idea!
This is one of the few challenges where I was happy with all the updates from each person and the game actually looks legit at the end! Well done guys.
this was amazing, it actually felt like all the devs were actually on the same page and it came out so good gj everyone in this, all the features that were added helped it so much
This was one of the best pass the game challenges I've watched, everything from the teamwork, execution, collaboration, no stupid stuff thrown in or unnecessarily removed, everyone came together to make something amazing and we got to see every stage including the play test and post challenge discussion, very entertaining and great job everyone involved!
I think a wild game design challenge that would truly warrant the "Bug Edition" title would be to make a requirement the each developer must leave a bug in the game, whether it be something game breaking or just something funny. the devs would be forced to prioritize certain fixes while considering what could be left broken, and the next dev would hopefully make a creative way to either implement or cover up the bug before the next advancement of the game
This is certainly one of the cleanest challenges yet, and that has a lot to do with the concise and easily understood framework setup by the first dev that was then enhanced by those that followed. Cheers!
Fantastic overall game. Sometimes the chaos is fun, but seeing how smooth it goes sometimes is also fantastic. The addition of the IK legs to the cubes was probably the biggest genius moment. It elevated all the placeholder boxes to unique designs, and allowed the easy implementation of other enemies by just picking a color, box, and legs. Not sure about the obstacles making a return at the end, but cool to see the aesthetic they came with. I think everyone should be proud of this one.
I think this video shows how much time is saved when you think ahead to other people editing your code. One of the best pass the game challenges I’ve seen on this channel and you can tell the devs showed some care for eachother
They are in contact with a lot of devs that work on several projects over long times. Also the "demanding free work" part is incredibly dumb. It's a trade, smaller game creators use this channel as a way to promote themselves. As you may notice most of these developers are only at a handful of subs on their TH-cam channel when first appearing on this channel and then they grow. They also get an opportunity to advertise their games and their skills to a large audience, which is why they are allowed to advertise however much they want on these videos. It's a fair system that is working to make the organizer and the small game creators profit. It's a win-win situation that is also nice for the viewers and the game industry as a whole
@Frienea its a trade: i receive a lot of money, and you receive insulting behaviour and 2 minutes of runtime that you yourself will have to edit, and also i might change my mind days before deadline. deal?
@Frienea there's no way you are being serious right now. game devs that participate aren't buying an ad: they dont have any contract that can protect them from their work being exploited, they have no control over how much run time they have in the video since blackthorn can just cut their segmnt or scrub video without any substantial reason after all the work was already done. they dont have any guarantees on how much people will watch the video, unlike LITERALLY ANY OTHER MARKETING. they are being exploited under the pretense of possible exposure without any confirmation or guarantee that that exposure is actually going to happen. it's not illegal, but there s a reason why "working for exposure" is so hated by everybody who is against the exploitation of creative people
This is the best game I've seen in this series, each dev poured their souls into it. Cant imagine how that Vitaly guy would have absolutely obliterated this
its very understandable and expected when a pass the game challenge ends up being chaotic or not very finished, but thats all part of the fun you know. but seeing this actually work so well was so cool! everyone did a great job and seemed to use their time and focus exactly right for this to turn out so good
Genuinely would love to see these five brought back to this game again at some point because it turned out spectacularly and I'd like to see where it could go from here.
Definitely one of the best pass the project results, and this time all 5 devs were amazing. Kudos to all! This game could legit be big if its completed
Well done guys! Was so enjoyable to see how proud everyone was at the end in the discussion. IwWould love to see a part2, where all 5 devs work together and communicate for a day or two, to add some of the things they discussed.
It would be cool to add dark mode and light mode so you can change it to white if you want, a cool idea for a boss could also be a centipede train where once you kill it it spawns random enemies
I think this is one of the most complete & congruous projects I've seen on this channel in a long time! Great video and I definitely want to play this game!
Wow, this one turned out great! Super impressive considering how few passes there were. Everyone brought something super important to the table and seemed to instinctively understand both what the previous devs intended and what the future devs could use. You love to see it!
I would like to see one where you somehow make the order a misery. No one know if they are the first or last person to be working on the game. So everyone is trying to finish the game in a chaotic race to the finish where no one knows who has started or where’s the end.
Wow this one came together great. Love the respect between each dev. Wish these videos where just the devs and their awesome devlogs and nothing else..
Please, its clear that communication is not your strongest suit, blackthornprod, I also advise you to become a better human being overall and stop treating badly the people that make this channel's content. Dont treat devs like shit.
A wonderful team, each one improving and adding to the game, and making it easier for the next dev to add something! Nobody had to take their time just to fix things, that's a game changer haha. Please more like this one!
Okay, yeah, that has to be one of the best yet. The editing is great, I loved every one of the devs' additions both to the project and to the editing if the video. Keep it up!
loved your content.. tried out 1 game and have been getting spam emails by a bot ever since tryign to make me sing up for a course or smth-- truly a channel of all time
This is one of those results I think would be an amazing candidate for a "5 Devs _Complete_ the Game" challenge. 😛 The core game is there. It just needs content.
Almost every game they've made I've gone "man I wish they would allow a 2nd loop to allow it to be a full fledge game". Because all of them are THIS close to being amazing.
this felt like one of the few times the devs worked together to make a cohesive game instead of trying to change a bunch of stuff to leave their mark. Awsome job and looks super fun to play
The best part of this is that the computer is directly competing with the player for resources which each can then use in a different way. It adds a real sense of urgency to going for the batteries, and responsiveness; you don't just have a random boss shows up, they're directly linked to the player actions.
Another banger from the pass the game challenge, but I don't think I've ever seen all 5 devs so laser focused on the task. Well done all devs, and happy to see some of you come back :)

This is one of the, if not the best pass the game challenge I have seen yet. I honestly hope they spend a little more time on it make it a full game. In fact I’ll probably be willing to pay a few dollars for the game as is (with a global leaderboard)
They should really dedicate time for them all to collectively finish out these games as a demo and post it.
Not much time but a week or so.
Everything looks really nice, only thing I didn't like is the change to a pure black floor. Has no depth(?) to it visually and it makes the black enemy outlines useless
Yeah I hated it
It'd be better if it was slightly greener to fit the theme
I like how the first dev made the map open because he thought it was more fun ans the 5th dev added the walls back in
Yeah it makes for less repetitive gameplay, so cool how randomly the walls change
I didn't know it was blank on purpose until I saw this video 😂 I stand by my choices 😊
@@darkroom7409 You made them break and change. Not a map so much as a shifting playspace. That works great!
The best pass the game challenge so far. Everyone contributed, no one deleted a core part of the game, everyone built on what was there. Massive props to all the devs.
"5 devs make a game/video, and I plug my course in-between"
The best end result I've seen so far - And zero drama! heeeyyy!
this has to be my favorite video from this series!
boss ideas:
Trojan horse- a fast giant blocky horse that drops little versions that dash towards you while the horse runs away.
Spam- a boss that drops a bunch of pop ups windows you need to close to make the boss temporarily vulnerable.
mouse Curser- a mouse curser that can curse you with spells, like maybe makes an area slow you or something.
suggestions: change player model, honestly thats about it. seems fun
The final design ended up looking really cool
This worked so well because the first dev had a nice basic idea that was putting an actual core-loop foundation down. More of this please
You should invite dark room again!
Yeah! They should! ❤
@@darkroom7409 Hello Darkroom!
Agreed! He polished nicely, and had a colab vibe. No ganking etc, just putting in best work he could for it. Did he also name to bosses etc? Reified the theme, there (aka made concrete) (PS Some of us do like the black floor better!)
@@phasein5413 Some hate the black floor :D But you can't please everyone :D
I weirdly came across this channel a couple of days ago and just randomly watched like 12 of your videos today. These have been absolutely amazing and glad to see another one pop up today!
I love it except for the last dev's decision to switch it to black. I really liked the clean white laboratory look it had before. 😕 (Nothing against the dev though, the rest of his edits were awesome!)
Art is subjective 😊❤ Thanks tho!
I personally prefer the black as I find it easier on the eyes to look at
The black background should be optional, felt that made is way worse and harder to see
100% agree
100% Disagree
Should be a light and dark mode maybe?
One of the best pass the game challenges! Looking forward to the next one.
These videos make me want to get into game design.
Great collab and result. Suggest having a "2 dev pass back" challenge where they iterate back and forth letting them keep evolving for 3 rounds.
This is so cool, the artstyles finally fir together, it's simple and seems fun asf
this was amazing, it actually felt like all the devs were actually on the same page and it came out so good gj everyone in this, all the features that were added helped it so much
This was one of the best pass the game challenges I've watched, everything from the teamwork, execution, collaboration, no stupid stuff thrown in or unnecessarily removed, everyone came together to make something amazing and we got to see every stage including the play test and post challenge discussion, very entertaining and great job everyone involved!
every single dev came with HEAT
Let’s share our own experiences related to the video’s topic!
I already miss the giant centipedes.
There was a centipede, bro. You didnt watch the full video
@@GTLife5 Bro, I watched the vid, and right after I already experienced giant centipede withdrawal symptoms
One of the best pass the game challenges I’ve seen on this channel and you can tell the devs showed some care for eachother
you’re no longer retaining my viewership that’s for sure
Why do you treat the game devs like slaves and ghost them for 6 months at a time, while also demanding free work?
Womp womp @@Frienea
@Frienea its a trade: i receive a lot of money, and you receive insulting behaviour and 2 minutes of runtime that you yourself will have to edit, and also i might change my mind days before deadline. deal?
@@YourUnrulyServant Yeah like game developers don't get money from people buying their game
Cant imagine how that Vitaly guy would have absolutely obliterated this
Hey bro. You take the free labor of people in your vids then treat them horridly, hows that working for you?
Why is bro beefing 😭
its very understandable and expected when a pass the game challenge ends up being chaotic or not very finished, but thats all part of the fun you know. but seeing this actually work so well was so cool! everyone did a great job and seemed to use their time and focus exactly right for this to turn out so good
every time RugBug appears in this challenges he turns it into a "Game" , well done
He is him.
@@mariotheraviolieater4718 Indeed
Devs 3 and 5 absolutely nailed this shit. Would love to see the two of them to collaborate on continuing this game.
I’m so hyped for the next part of the 100 devs make a game. I’m def gonna get it even if it’s put behind a paywall. It sounds so much fin
This is easily the best pass the project challenge, all the devs felt like they were on the same wavelength, and the game came out amazing
This was one of the best yet! Everyone did great with forwarding the idea without covering up anyone elses work.
Thanks @Blackthornprod for having me! Best Game Jam game I've worked on! 😂🎉
This guy. Bring him back!
I liked your part the most. You added a ton of cool visuals and really made the game look polished. I'd be very happy if they invite you again.
You ruined it
@@AllTimeShown Some men just wanna watch the world burn.
@@_blue_carrot Thanks! You're setting me up with expectations that I can't meet :D
It would be cool to add dark mode and light mode so you can change it to white if you want, a cool idea for a boss could also be a centipede train where once you kill it it spawns random enemies
this might be my favorite episode so far
Beat of these in a LONG time. Everyone handled it super well, it was great to watch people pass the ball and build together.
Really really loved the changes made by Rugbug, terrific idea to add a boss
Keep it up!
IIRO really made the game unique, his changes are my favourite.
This is definitely a game you load up at dinner and then all of a sudden it's bed time
These devs are great. So happy that we finally got an episode with consistency and GREAT Devs. Epic stuff
loved your content.. tried out 1 game and have been getting spam emails by a bot ever since tryign to make me sing up for a course or smth-- truly a channel of all time
this channel exploits others.
This is one of those results I think would be an amazing candidate for a "5 Devs _Complete_ the Game" challenge. 😛
The core game is there. It just needs content.
Almost every game they've made I've gone "man I wish they would allow a 2nd loop to allow it to be a full fledge game". Because all of them are THIS close to being amazing.
This is really cool, definitely one of the most impressive end products I've seen on the channel. Good work everyone involved!
this felt like one of the few times the devs worked together to make a cohesive game instead of trying to change a bunch of stuff to leave their mark. Awsome job and looks super fun to play
The best part of this is that the computer is directly competing with the player for resources which each can then use in a different way. It adds a real sense of urgency to going for the batteries, and responsiveness; you don't just have a random boss shows up, they're directly linked to the player actions.
You're all incredibly talented game devs, Props to all of you. Very entertaining to watch!
The way the low poly hand slides in and moves is just satisfying and cool 🧊
Also White Background looked way better
The last dev made such a good job! Nice!
I love how every dev took time to help future devs do their thing
Idea: new set of devs have to continue the game some other team made. It lets you re use older projects
Another banger from the pass the game challenge, but I don't think I've ever seen all 5 devs so laser focused on the task. Well done all devs, and happy to see some of you come back :)
I think this game should get into the top 3 games ever made without communicating
