Ford Model A Weber Carb Intake Manifold Fuel Pump Choke Install How To Four Banger Upgrade

  • I was tired of messing around with the original Zenith 1 carb on my 1930 Model A Sport Coupe. I installed a Weber 2 barrel carb and intake manifold from Bert's Model A. I also installed a 6V Carter fuel pump, Holley fuel pressure regulator and gauge, and remote choke. Check it out, and hope it helps you on your car!
Should apply to any Model A four banger motor.

If your old carb ran rich it could be for several reasons. Keeping the gas valve on the choke open too far. It doesnt take much after it warms up. Main and secondary jets may have too big of holes in them. A lot of old mechanics would solder them shut and redrill new holes. Gotta have an indentation at the too of the jets tho. This helped greatly. The float may not be maintaining the proper fuel leveling the bowl which allows fuel to flow out of the jets instead of being coaxed by the vacuum. That Zenith crab was designed specifically for the Model A and when just right would deliver 25 miles to the gallon. I loved working on these cars. They were fun to drive too.

Agreed, I definitely still had a problem I never sorted out. Not too worried, the weber took care of it.

U would think they sell jets after all this time. Lol

@@apocolypse11 actually they do. But sometimes its quicker, easier and cheaper to solder them shut and redrill the hole. They have to be a certain length, and the hole has to be an exact size. (I would have to check my book to remember specifics. Dont want to get them wrong!) Sometimes remans dont quite measure up. Gotta box of them in the garage that are no good.

Model As do not have a pressurized oil system, so you really don’t need an oil pressure gauge. I tried the Weber setup years ago, and didn’t like how difficult it was to start cold. Otherwise, it was a good system, especially with a high- compression head.
Keep an eye on that cheap pressure gauge, because parts of it can melt in that high-heat area.

Yes its pretty clear from watching the pressure gauge it is not real useful on this car haha. Oh well. I haven't had any problems with it. So far the Weber setup starts much better cold and hot. The acceleration is the best part though, it can actually get up to speed in traffic.

Can you run a waffle manifold heater with that downdraft kit?

I'm not sure, I dont have one to try. I kind of doubt it would clear but I'm really not sure.

It's been about 9 months since installation. Any issues or tips on running this unit? I'm considering getting one. Thanks

I drive it regularly and it is awesome. No problems. Works perfectly every time. Very happy with the weber setup. I modified a cast finned aluminum air cleaner to fit it, looks great. Go for it!

Is it okay to use a drop type Weber? Do I need a fuel pump? From Japan

I'm not sure what drop type means? Yes I would recommend using a fuel pump for sure.
