    Really enjoyed your carb upgrade. Quick idea: Consider throwing in a fire extinguisher in each time you take a car out. I've seen a couple of fuel line/carb fires with bad results so I always carry a small extinguisher (something like halon, not a dry chemical extinguisher because they leave a residue that's hard to get off after a fire.) Thanks for your video. Looking forward to your next one.

    I have my fathers 30 coupe. He was a master mechanic. It has a B block rebuilt by Rod Furtado. Crank, Crower rods and a Dan Price oil pump running full pressure and inserted bearings.The head is a Dan Price 4 port cross flow running a Dan Price cam with dual Stromberg carbs.Exhaust is a Dan Price OHV tube header. '56 steering box and four speed transmission. It is also..... For sale. If interested, or if you know anyone, end a response. Can send photos.

    Cool little coupe! How about a simple heat shield on the pipe by that back carb? Will a "Uni-Syn" tool fit to balance the carbs? I have seen a few dual updraft setups and like the uniqueness. Sounds like it's going to be a good runner.

    Nice change to the intro, much "snappier" and sets the stage for the video matter to follow. Also you seem to be getting more comfortable with the narrative throughout the presentation. You're evolving your style in a positive direction. Keep at it............

    Back in 1962 my buddy had a 28 A that he installed a 4 Banger with Offenhauser head and cam plus headers. He also had dual down draft carbs. It was a sweet little ride.

    My wife has a really nice 31 Hudson coupe but the Marvel carb was trouble so took it to my favorite carb guy. He said he would not rebuild it for the car because that type was prone to breaking in half then spewing gas on the header pipe. He got me a weber, much better. I also installed 3 point seat belts cause these 8 cylinder Hudsons move well enough for todays traffic. I expect I'll get picked on by some purists but rule #1gotta be reasonably safe.

    • @Seattle_Speed_Shop
      @Seattle_Speed_Shop  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd rather drive it than worry about it catching on fire! I'm sure the weber performs really well! I say it's your car. Do what makes you happy. And damn the purists.

    Kind of an interesting attempt at a dual updraft manifold, but that rear carb pulling very hot air from the exhaust down pipe in really concerning. The designer gave that no consideration? Think I'd want a couple of 97's on a downdraft manifold, with air cleaners.

    I'm not advocating a chop, but back in the pre war era, men, & ladies, wore hats & the roofline was made so that the top of the hat didn't hit the roof lining even on the unmade/bumpy roads of the day. Cars with a "modest" chop can have an enhanced appearance while still looking sufficiently stock to fool all but the knowing. Oh, and your head still does not hit the head lining when driving over modern roads.

    Is the air cleaner the front grill? Would more compression run better with modern fuel?

    • @Seattle_Speed_Shop
      @Seattle_Speed_Shop  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They point backwards, just don't go mudding in reverse!
      I don't really know how to answer your fuel question succintly. Modern fuel is a whole video topic in itself. More modern fuels with higher octane ratings generally allow higher compression before detonating as I understand things. From a model A perspective, I think when we talk about modern fuels it's important to consider how inconsistent gas was in the 20s and 30s. Which is my understanding they were designed to run on the worst gas available at the time. Modern fuels are well above those levels. Even without the lead and other stuff. The thing with an A, is even at 7:1, that is well below modern standards. So it's almost like the gas is better than we really need now.

    this would be difficult to tune these carbs as there is no accelerator pumps, with such a setup, the velocity in the venturis of the carburetors is greatly reduced so these carbs will be touchy to adjust and very sensitive to weather and atmospheric pressure changes.
    good luck

    • @Seattle_Speed_Shop
      @Seattle_Speed_Shop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. There isn't a ton you can do with them. And everything you've said about them being touchy is stuff I have heard before, as well. We'll just have to see how they do. I've got a few tricks up my sleeve. But will save that for another episode.

      It’s true yet I’ve read that the intake is a major restriction. I wonder if it would help to stagger the linkage so one carb opens earlier than the other up to about ¼ throttle or so. I’ve had cars with SU carbs which come in many sizes and automatically adjust to changing conditions.

    • @jacquespoirier9071

      the SU are a different application, they are constant vacuum style carburetors much less sensitive to low flow conditions

    What sort of highway speed should this setup do ??

    • @Seattle_Speed_Shop
      @Seattle_Speed_Shop  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well. A stock A will do 60 mph. This is still limited by the gearing. Maybe a little more top end because of the taller tires. 65-68mph. It's main benefits is the ability to maintain speed when pulling a grade, and quicker acceleration. Without adding an overdrive or changing rear gears, it doesn't really have any more top end speed. Hope that makes sense.
