    This is actually a really helpful thing that they did. This is a very condensed version of the "Thai alphabet made easy" series from this podcast. You first MUST study each and every episode from this series. It goes into much more detail about each letter, as well as all the other rules you must know pertaining to the Thai alphabet. This video should be watched afterwards as a way to quickly scan through all the letters to ingrain them into your memory.
    Lastly, learning the Thai language can not be done proficiently without dedicating yourself to mastering its alphabet. If you truly want to learn the language, do not cheat your way through this. Good luck, friends. You can do it!!!

    Why Thai had so many consonant that makes the same sound? When I've to use each of them? Like, the "t" sound is represented by at least 4 letters in Thai

    • @pualamnusantara7903
      @pualamnusantara7903 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Thai alphabet is derived from Sanskrit and Pali, and in those languages those different T's, Ch's, Kh's, N's etc were actually pronounced as different sounds each, like dental vs retroflex sounds, voiced vs unvoiced, those differences were lost when it got into the Thai language, that's why some of them are "joined" and thus pronounced the same. Mainly you just have to know which letter goes with which words, there's little to no clue on how to know which letter is used, it's mostly pure memorization (except if you know some Sanskrit/Pali then maybe you can make some correlation between the letters and may guess which letter goes with which word).

    • @Romi140
      @Romi140 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@pualamnusantara7903 thank you so much for the explanation, it's really helpful! I was so confused because I thought I'm just not hearing right or my ears are not used to Thai and I thought that must be why some consonants sound the same to me. Glad to hear I'm actually hearing right :D but yes, this is gonna be super difficult to just memorise which letter to use just by memorising words

      As far as I know, there really exists Thais who cannot read or write but can speak their language. This is because some Thais think that learning everything about reading and writing Thai is difficult, especially because there are lots of consonants, vowel diacritics, and tone rules.

    • @nuntana2
      @nuntana2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's possible our friend, Fury, is a mixed race ('luuk krueng') child and may have gone to an international school. Not uncommon folks and not a biggie.
      The best way to learn Thai is to learn the alphabet first and read, since syllable/tonal rules are always on display. Easier said that done, but once you get the groundwork in, you will automatically know what the tone and vowel length is.

    Hi, can you please explain what T stop at the end means?

    • @pualamnusantara7903
      @pualamnusantara7903 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In English, if you pronounce the word ending in "t" like "hit", "sit", "mate", and "late", you can feel some bursts of air flowing through your mouth (to test it you can use your hand or a tissue/paper, say those words, and you can feel the air escapes through your mouth with your hand or the the tissue would move a bit).
      In Thai, however, for every word that ends in plosive coda (-k, -t, -p), they are pronounced as a stop, that means, *no air* escapes through your mouth when pronouncing those k t p sounds at the end, hence the name, "t stop", which means that you are stopping the flow of air from your mouth so there's no air escaping from your mouth (if you use your hand or a tissue again, you wouldn't feel some bursts of air when pronouncing these stops).

      Initial Consonant - at the beginning of the word
      Final Consonant - at the end of the word
      So for example
      ก- will have a "g" sound if it's written at the beginning of the word, like /ga/
      ก- will have "k" sound if it's written at the end of the word, like /ak/

    Why to have many letters who make the same sound?

    • @neemapaxima6116
      @neemapaxima6116 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thai was bombard with Sanskrit and Pali words; their orthography were preserved but their pronunciation were not.
      The letters which make the same sound in modern Thai made slightly different sounds in Indian languages that they came from. The same thing happened with Persian; thousands of Arabic words made their way to Persian, their orthography were preserved but Persians pronounced them the way they were more comfortable, that's why letter ض / ذ / ز / ظ all make the Z sound and letters س / ص / ث all make the S sound in modern Persian.

      @@neemapaxima6116 i don't know if you'll answer this or not, but here it goes. i can read arabic just a bit, so your explanation helps with my confusion with these letters with the same sound in thai script. if i'm understanding it correctly, you shouldn't really bother on how to use the letters, but rather better to get used to what words use these letters, right? at this point i'm having a hard time as to what letter should i use when i want to write stuff. :(

    Why are there so many t sounds?

    • @pualamnusantara7903
      @pualamnusantara7903 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
