    Really interesting!
I've been watching a lot of Thai shows online so I've picked up a few words of Thai here and there, and I got curious about the written script because I had no idea where to start reading, and this was really eye-opening.
I was especially surprised that each consonant has an associated word with it at first, but thinking about it, that isn't really different to the English alphabet having names for the letters as well as the associated sound.
I was also a bit surprised that there are different consonants with the same sound, but then I realised that this does actually happen quite a few times in the English language: x and z generally make the same or similar sounds, i and y sometimes do too, s and c sometimes do, but the big one I think is c and k. In fact, in the UK, when we're teaching kids the difference between the two, we even have associated words to go with the sounds! If both make a "cuh" sound, we call C "curly cuh" and K "kicking cuh". So actually the Thai system isn't so alien after all 😅
Obviously the two writing systems are hugely different in reality, but there are similarities between the two, which I find reassuring, and will help me to make it stick in my brain 😋

Here to say that I've paid for and taken the whole course and I must say it is really worth it! My suggestion is to go for the lifetime bundle if you're relatively new to Thai language. I already had some foundation in reading the consonants and vowels and even then it took me more than 2 months to go through this course (granted, work's pretty busy and I'm doing this during weekends mostly).
I've tried to learn how to read Thai through youtube (thaipod), pimsleur, and the book "Read Thai in 10 days". Nothing beats video lessons from Banana Thai. If you've been struggling to learn how to read Thai, I strongly suggest the entire course! They have lotsa coupon codes so sign up for the newsletter too!

I know some people are reverse though, who prefers to know the breakdown isolations in details without a need of the bigger picture to make sense of where they are at.

Awesome. A very nice and concise overview of thai letters tones, rules, and so on. What initially made my head spin is when a consonant sounds one way at the beginning but changes at the end. I suppose we, in the USA, have something loosely similar as in the words shares and also shades. Muchos thanks. I appeciate the lesson.
