Yes, there is probably a lot of older equipment out that is controlled with a PC and uses, for example, 4:3 CRTs. Medical, industrial or other specialist stuff can be pretty expensive to replace and it is kind of a shame to replace fully functional gear just because something on the PC died and getting parts is getting too difficult.

Lol my first multiscreen setup was with CRT's, think I had 3 NEC multisyncs 19" which were thrown away at a company I interned at. Just getting them home was a chore... Then I needed to reinforce my Ikea desk... Also luckily I had a 80cm deep desk and it was off the wall a bit so I had more space left then I first thought. However driving these screens was a whole different story. I can't exactly recall what GPU's I had but gaming was limited to just 2 back then. Windows desktop worked fine. Now I got 27"+34"+27" Samsung screens and I love it. RPG's are amazing however the switching around with the Nvidia screen stuff is annoying though.

I kinda spoiled myself years ago by starting to use a 40" monitor for my center display, I REALLY like that. For a long time I did dual, but upgraded to triple display (two 24" monitors right now). Its nice having one large central monitor to display the main thing you are working on and of course extra monitors allow you to multi-task very well.
I've been waiting for a very good 4k 120/144hz monitor with great response times that is 40" to replace the main monitor... as well as for computer parts pricing to go back down to rational to get a graphics card to push that because right now my aging hardware wouldn't be able to push 4k good enough to bother.

I remember the days when Matrox's selling point was that it offered 3 video outs instead of 2 like everyone else! Man, but this one takes the cake. This is definitely used for the specialized use case of a single DVR to output to 6 surveillance TVs or perhaps even 6 digital signage displays where it really doesn't matter how sharp the image is. Thanks for sharing and going into all the trouble of actually building a multimonitor setup to try gaming on this. XD

    Some comments.
Because of the way the camera projection works in FPS games, it expects to draw to a single flat surface. Doing so makes the FOV at the extreme edges look stretched. Curving the monitors (as you did there) exascerbates the problem. NVidia were touting a "Multi-projection" system that would map the virtual cameras to match the IRL screens, but it never went anywhere.
Also, one of Eyefinity's Top Tricks was running in 5x1 - That is 5 monitors in portrait mode, all side-by-side, which means you'd get a 5400x1920 display.
And yes, running an even number of screens in any direction is a bad idea as the center gets chopped by bezels. I know Matrox and NVidia had "Bezel Compensation" that would render (and hide) the space behind the bezels for a more even and straight display, but that had the disadvantage of hiding the pixels that are in the gaps, like looking through window panes.

To be fair, that cars is a hell of a value if you're looking to put up a multi display array for a store or something like that, and even more if you want to have it be an SFF or at least micro ATX build, where you could only have 2 cards, and some of the cheaper cards have only 2 ports, so you'd have more with this. O ly thing is that you'd have to use VGA, which doesn't look the best (although, for a store display, you don't need high fidelity video, really)

I feel like this would probably work great if you have a load of system RAM, and enough threads to do 'background' applications full screen, then just dedicate one of the monitors for the game you are playing.
for instance, minecraft on one monitor, the wiki for minecraft on another, a youtube video of a lets'play of minecraft running off of internal graphics, and then you've still got 3 monitors for 'that book you were writing', the excel spreadsheet your boss wanted you to edit and a Database/web browser.
otherwise known as the traditional EVE online set up. I have once heard the phrase, "what you don't have 6 monitors laying around you could use?" when I was talking to a EVE player IRL.

I've tried 3 and 4 monitors hooked up before. Found that it's too much real estate; and getting neck whiplash from moving one's head, especially anytime that you look at the monitors that are way above the natural forward point. Even left and right with three monitors is a bit of a pain. It feels like whip lash to a degree. For the most part, I settled back to two monitors using the one monitor as the primary, with the secondary just as for a "reference" monitor - a monitor where I'll have reference material available for viewing. I should note that for a while, with three monitors, I used two monitors in landscape, and one in portrait - which worked the best for reading detailed instructions, PDF files, and taking screenshots of landscape oriented data.
Actually have been considering pulling the monitors completely, and switching to a 4K projector although I figure that'll probably turn out poorly. Maybe I'll just go out and find a nice 4K monitor of a larger physical size and be done. Still debating the approach to take.

Given the monitor vintage, it doesn't matter much, but flipping the top ones could get rid on some bezel.
I've still not found a truly bezel-less monitor. The best I have right now is an Acer with a .25 inch outer edge to image gap of "no" bezel. I'm not about to spend $1000 per monitor, and I do have rather tight size constraints, as the PC desk is tucked into what used to be a closet. I figure I can run a pair of 24" screens here, when I find a deal on something better than what I have.
