I tried updating my 10 year old HP which was running windows 8.1 with a new power supply, ram, and graphics card but had issues with the drivers which wasn't all that surprising. Although there are top-notch tech TH-camrs out there, they are all assembling machines that most of the times a small percentage of people can afford, or reviewing graphics cards that cannot be bought. Granted I know there's not much they can do and they try to provide content of what's available. But my point is they are all different flavors of pretty much the same. Your content is awesome when I am in a moment of needing geeky nerdy fun. I have to admit thanks to the top-notch TH-camrs I was able to assemble a computer as recently as this week AND was able to troubleshoot that the motherboard was the problem (ugh it was a pain but I found it), so they do have their place but again my point is your content is really different and pure entertainment value. Now, having said that, I would love to see a video of you taking on those top-notch tech TH-camrs and assembling a top-tier computer that you may actually keep after squeezing every penny of all your sponsors, including Vileda :)

For Half-Life 2 on a $19 PC, I recommended you force DXlevel to run from Directx 9.0+ to Directx 8.1 (or can also be down to 6.0) by setting launch options on Steam.
Go to Steam first, then right-click on Half-Life 2's title, and go to Properties, and you'll find the launch options section on the General tab.
Click on the launch options section, and type "+mat_dxlevel 81", "+mat_dxlevel 70", or "+mat_dxlevel 60" (these DXlevels are options) and then run Half-Life 2.
    Hope you find this helpful!

I'm actually surprised the seller gave you a usable graphics card for so cheap on the spot. Usable being relative obviously. Next to Intel on board graphics.. any PCI-e graphics card is an upgrade. Even my old AMD ATI system with Radeon HD 4200 on mobo graphics wasn't able to make HL2 playable- and that was like the pinnacle of motherboard graphics performance. Though it was able to play Amnesia: The Dark Descent just fine.

Though in mine, I put a core 2 duo E8400 in it, 4gb ram and a Radeon X1950 GT 512mb. using it for those 2000's era games. and it runs brilliantly. FEAR at 1440x900 max settings *No soft shadows* runs at 45-89fps. Half life 2 is 50-112fps at 1680x1050.

You can install Win 10 on these old systems, I have done it before! In fact I had an old Dell Inspiron 530 with that same motherboard. I had 4GB of DDR2 800Mhz and an E8500 in it. You can use Rufus 3.13 with the following settings:
    - Partition Scheme: MBR
    - Target System: BIOS (or UEFI-CSM)
    - Add Fixes for old BIOSes
    - Use Rufus MBR with BIOS ID
    - Create extended label and icon files
    - Check device for bad blocks
I've used these settings for multiple LGA775 and and old Phenom II systems and it works pretty much every time. Hopefully this helps somebody!

I can say with certainty (& consistency) from my experience that $150 is the magic number for CL builds.
    Today, that got me a i7 4770K, Z87 Pro, 16GB Ripjaws DDR3 (2x8GB), MSI HD 6570 (lol), Zalman Max cooler, and a 500W Antec power supply...all that for $150.
I can throw it in the thrifted $3.99 Corsair Carbide 200R case and add the free working 250GB Samsung SSD I pulled out of a broken laptop while dumpster-diving and will have only spent $153.99 for the whole complete system, or add my $150 EVGA 980Ti SC2 as well and make it the ultimate ~$300 beast.
If you do another one of these, I say aim for $150 (or $192CAD).
Otherwise, this was hilarious to watch, thanks for posting!

If you do something like this in future with an old PC with BIOS without boot from USB you can sometimes use PLOP boot manager to resolve it and save yourself from so much CD burning. I’ve heard it’s hit and miss but I’ve had good experiences.

On old PC's like this that won't boot from usb, the easiest thing I've found to do to install windows from a flash drive is to install DOS with plop boot manager to a hard drive connected to another computer. Then put that hard drive in the crap pc and boot from it and use plop boot manager to boot from usb. You only have one shot this way because when you start installing windows it'll overwrite DOS and plop boot manager so if it fails you have to start all over again. Still easier than messing with a DVD in my experience.
