- In this episode, we rejoin the adventures onboard Safar, continuing a 6 day non stop solo passage to the Canary Islands. I find myself getting frustrated with the conditions along the route, but we do get some occasional moments where Safar really gets to stretch out and dust off the cobwebs

Your boat is my favorite of all that are the tube!!! She has such perfect lines and rig!!! The drone shots of her under way are fantastic!! Thanks for sharing
I have to admit, I really look forward to editing the videos when I've had the drone up, especially when there is some breeze and the sails are streaming along! Glad you're enjoying the footage. All the best, Morgan
Hi Morgan, you have a new Patreon 🎉, for anyone interested in sailing, the challenges, the thinking behind the decisions with the highs and lows of making bad calls, Morgan is a mine of good sailing knowledge (the only suggestion is to show how you set up your sailing and not just the end result), I truly believe you have a unique style and safe one, that many could learn from - please do not change! Also super impressed with how clean you keep the boat, she looks stunning at all times - well done!
Thanks Matthew! I've sent you a message on Patreon!
Just found your channel. I enjoyed watching this. Would love it if you could explain a bit how you do your sleep while solo sailing and also how and why you choose a certain marina and the clearing in and out procedures. Blessings to you my friend
Thanks Frank, and great suggestion with the clearing in / out procedures, I did actually film some of my sleeping procedures, which will hopefully be in next weeks episode. All the best, Morgan
Really interesting video....I have subscribed and look forward to future videos. Have a safe journey. Best Wishes
David
Thanks David! Glad you enjoyed the episode! All the best, Morgan
Hi Morgan, For some reason I haven't been getting notifications about your latest videos. That looked like a very mixed passage. I hate the light wind situations where you can't get enough wind to hold the sails taught and the boat rolls around with everything slapping and banging. You did well and as always I'm very envious of your ability with the drone. Just about to watch the next episode. Take care .... Dave
I once cruised from Madeira to La Gomera in the Canaries on a Beneteau Idylle 13.50. We didn’t hoist the sails even once! Completely becalmed the whole trip! It can be pretty frustrating, but I’ve learned over the years that it’s never the situation that bothers us, it’s how we deal with it. Our reaction to it. Thankfully, I’ve picked up that wisdom, and life’s been much smoother sailing since. 😉
Absolutely love, watching your adventure Good editing skills👌 I love your boat beautiful keep going💪💪💪🫡🫡
Much appreciated! I'm slowly getting there with the editing, hoping to upgrade my software to take it to the next level! Safar is definitely a fine looking boat! And when the breeze fills, she can be a rocket too! All the best, Morgan
Hoe about the starlink. Do you like it? THXS Gertjan
Have been following you on my husband’s private page. Love your videos. Stay safe afloat.
We’re a sailing channel from Ireland aboard our 1982 westerly fulmar called Wave Dancer which we bought in 2007.
Glad you’re enjoying the content, I don’t get the chance to make as many videos as i’d like really as work can be quite demanding! But I’m hoping 2024 will be a good season for Safar. I’m one of your channel subscribers. All the best, Morgan
Hi Morgan just subscribed,i have to say what an absolute well sorted boat you have.........Can i ask are you getting weather updates via iridium .....Take care and keep making the videos as it really is nice to see content about sailing and the boat etc ..... Regards Nick
Thanks Nick, Safar is certainly my pride and joy. I use the IridiumGo when offshore for weather and tracking, I also have a little Inreach Mini which I use for tracking and coms. I recently installed Starlink onboard, but only kept it on for 30 mins or so each day when underway but i was checking the forecast with that to. All the best, Morgan.
Hi Morgan,
Fantastic Video. We are in Vilagarcia with Saga. The Orkan made us hide in the Rias. We want o Bring her to Porto Santos in Dezember.
The orcas look to be very active again recently, I was obviously lucky not to see them! I’m sure you’ll have a great time in Porto Santos! I would like to visit there to! I saw Calypso in La Linea, a Saltram 40 built in the USA, with a taller rig, she was an amazing looking boat!
I absolutely love Safar! I found it easier and more comfortable to just tack downwind. I got tired of rigging spinnaker poles and going directly downward only to be constantly rolling ear to ear. Broad reaching is faster and you don't roll as much with the main up.
Those downwind runs are certainly hard work, but I’ve streamlined my set up so it’s not too time consuming anymore. Safar loves to roll when wing on wing, so sailing each tack certainly makes for a smoother (and much quieter) ride. I’d like to try a Parasailor spinnaker for dead downwind, but they’re just so darn expensive.
Good looking and capable boat. Good luck. Cheers.
Thanks Johnny, I’ve always been really pleased with Safar! All the best, Morgan
love your boat man 👍
Thanks Duncan! She's certainly a looker.

Pot Noodle! Great stuff mate
Thanks Rory! I thought I would’ve shaken that Pot Noodle name by now! Hope you’re well!
Your chute is symmetrical? Nice channel. Hope to see you out there.
Glad you enjoyed the episode, where are you sailing? It's a asymmetric / cruising chute, normally I have the tack going down to a removable bow sprit but I've recently been experimenting with poling it out like a symmetrical to sail deeper down wind, Check out ep12 as I first try it there and it worked surprisingly well.
@@sailingsafar I have a JPK 39FC which I sail during the summer in England and France. Next year I am off to Spain. I have a bunch of videos but not as accomplished as your efforts.
great adventure
Thanks Simon! Just enjoying each day at a time.
Looking good there mate Safar is a tidy vessel cheers from Australia enjoying your videos
Thanks John! Safar is definitely a looker from the drone shots! Hope you guys have a great summer down under!
I share your frustration at the lack of wind. I see you have Star-link. How are you finding it?
Hey Craig, It's the constant slap of the sails that really gets to me. The Starlink is great.... however, it's extremely power hungry and only runs from AC, it's also expensive. I think for coastal cruising, 4g dongles are probably best, but when I'm plugged into shore power the starling is fantastic and allows me to upload videos and stream movies and sport etc
Nice sailing...
Hi Morgan, nice boat. Good luck on your adventures.
Much appreciated! I see you also own a canoe stern'd boat to!
@@sailingsafar yes, come see my videos at sailingalcanzar. Good times in the Vancouver Island area.
Never considered two headsails on the same fuller. Pretty cool. Would like to hear about your drone kit and how you get it on and off the boat while underway.
I have done two head sails several times on runs and it works very well and helps stabilize the yacht.
It's the first time I've tried it and I need to make a few small adjustments to the set up, but I think it'll be a great sail plan for the future when I have the longer downwind passages. For my drone, I use an old Mavic pro, which seems to be a pretty good balance between storage, power consumption and ease of use. Until recently I've been catching it by the body when recovering it, but after a small mishap when a blade caught my finger, I've invested a grab handle. I find the best way to catch it is on the windward side and by keeping the boat moving on course.
Fantastic. Well done!
Glad you liked it! Excited for the 2024 season so I can continue the adventures
Anther splendid vid!
Thanks Rich! One more to upload and then that's a wrap for Safars 2023 season sadly.
