My 2014 Kia Forte's engine blew on the highway at 92,000 miles. Once we safely parked my vehicle the engine had a loud rod knock. Took it in to the dealership immediately and after 2 weeks, I have finally gotten word yesterday that the engine has failed all the test and is being replace for free under the recall notice. Taking this into consideration I do NOT have the KSDS update installed on my Kia so I was very nervous and sure I would be denied. I had called corporate previously to review my options if denied and they told me in was very rare to get a free engine with no update installed. God is on my side and I feel very blessed I hope this helps somebody out there!

I was lucky in that my Kia 2017, wasn’t listed in recall. It was at 48K so under warranty, took it in 3 times and denied repair by KIA Corporation. Then called California LEMON LAW ATTORNEY. Reached settlement within 3 weeks, KIA bought car back, less mileage and KIA paid attorney fees. CALL attorney you may have a case and if so attorney fees are taken out of settlement.

Hey sir, Thank for the info. I got KSDS installed - Watching your videos and got your book. While at local KIA Dealer I had a good conversation with service tech and he noted that they are told NOT to disclose information about KSD upfront. I had called to schedule apt for another recall (Electrical / fire risk) and told them I wanted KSDS as well. He just shook his head and said "Its good that I had such information because KIA wont tell you if you werent initially owner, and uses that to quickly deny you" He even went as far as how KIA tries to get around "OIL consumption" - - Thanks Carl.

I bought a 2013 Sportage from a friend due to the fact that 3 different people at Kia customer care said the engine has a lifetime warranty. Now that I legally own it, they have changed their tune and saying it's only covered up to 150k. It's got 156k on it. I've tried going up to management, but keep getting robots that read off a screen and parrot the corporate talking points. Any suggestions?

Hyundai plays tricks and will not state the mileage of the warranty. When that first pop off in 2019 or 2020 it was 150k. @tonybenson5508

@@quincywilliams4738 my experience with Hyundai from Feb 2024. You are out of warranty at 92K miles and even you stated the problem in 2019 @53k miles. Hi Carl, you just read my comment I sent you today. You asked was my 2012 KIA a V6, no it's not. I have the 2.4. They said my oil was good, no knocking, and the rod bearing clearance test was good. But I had the P1326 knock sensor code. They cleared the code and the car is running fine (for now). Thanks again for what you do.

0ver the last 2 years I have taken my 2018 Kia Sportage to Kia and Durham North Carolina to get my car checked out due to checking the engine light on and shaking when driving and now when idle. I just paid $900 plus dollars when I took it in again a couple of months ago for this same issue. They told me I needed to replace my spark plugs which I did replace my serpentine belt which I did, got a oil change and miraculously my car was running fine. Now the first time I took it in which was maybe a year and a half ago for the same issue they updated my ksds to my recollection. I think they just cleared the code and it's just running from that and now I'm having the same problem again also the extreme oil consumption is an issue. What do I do?

my local dealership has put us through major trials since our engine went. For almost a month they had our car and when we went to get it the body control module was bad. They refused to take responsibility for it. They took it back in and 2 more weeks went by and they hadn't done anything. They just keep feeding me BS, hoping I leave them alone until they decide to fix it. I'm about to call a lawyer because it feels like the only thing that will get them to take me seriously....that may not even work.

My 2014 Kia Sorrento had its engine replaced only because I had to recall done. The recall was for the knock sensor. After replacing a knock sensor, the engine blew up I took it to the dealership and they told me they were replaced the engine for free the only problem was, I had to wait about four weeks for them because they were backed up with cars in front of me. Waiting for new engines. I now have my new engine in my 2014 Kia and it seems to be doing OK I have 114,000 miles on the engine before it blew up.

    • @CarlsGarage
      @CarlsGarage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yea so that's not correct. The knock sensor is just that. A sensor. It senses when the engine is failing and puts the car into limp mode allowing the driver to make it to the dealership to start the process for a new engine. Your engine failed due to the rod bearings which fail. The recall is on the rod bearings. The engine they put in your car will fail again too because they have the same rob bearing issue.

This is November 30, 2023 on vacay, my engine got really hot (all the way to H). Took it to a mechanic and he said the head gaskets are blown and that it would need a new engine it’s a 2014 Kia Sorrento, 3.3 L engine. What is the first step I should take? I don’t believe we ever had the knock sensor update as we are the second owners of this vehicle and never received those update notifications.

I purchased two Kia vehicles in 2018 one was a Kia Sportage the other one was a Kia optima both were brand new off the lot. About six months ago I started noticing my oil light coming on about 2500 miles after my oil changes. Then I found out that both cars were doing the same thing. We took both cars into the dealer. They wanted to do the three checks. We inconvenienced ourselves to do these three checks because we figured this was going to fix the problem and Kia would honor their product since both cars are still under warranty. They asked for the oil change receipts. We turned them all in and they’ve had one car for a month now they did say they would replace the engine for the optima car which they’ve had that car for a month now. I finished the oil consumption checks on the Sportage and they told me since on the third check that my car only burned 1 quart of oil in 1000 miles, so they will not cover the warranty because it’s not a problem. after a month, we still don’t have the Optima back and now I’m stuck with the Sportage that’s burning oil like crazy. I want to add that the Sportage burned oil faster than the Optima. This is just maddening, and I am so frustrated. I will never ever buy another Kia again, and I will never recommend anyone else to buy one. I also had to make a big stink just for them to give a loaner car to us. They weren’t going to offer it at all. Both my son and I are healthcare workers that see patients at home. It was extremely inconveniencing to bring my car in to the dealership three times and within 1000 miles. You can’t be 100 miles over or under the 1000 mile mark or you have to start all over again with the three checks. I’m beyond frustrated because now I have to get a new car, otherwise I have to check my oil every one to three weeks just to make sure I don’t lock up my engine running out of oil. I just can’t understand why this is OK and Kia is still selling cars like they are selling a good product.

Thanks for the continuous info! I have a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0 turbo the lost power on the highway.
Towed it to dealership. They sat on it for 7 days despite looking at it(fuse box cover off).
Car moved in dealer parking lot but still in parking.
Annoyed, towed it to Sullivan Tire.
They called me in 2 hours with a list.
Said the engine was done, 1st compressor shot among other engine damage.
No oil left. Past the mileage for next oil change but not that past the date.

I'm going through this with Kia now. They denied my engine because the Product Improvement Campaign (PI1803) ECU Upgrade (ksds) 12MY wasn't done prior to the engine developing rod knock due to bearing failure. The dealership confirmed that had the KSDS been done it would qualify. I am in process of talking with Kia USA now, waiting on the recall supervisor to call me back. This is terrible that they try to skirt the engine failure recall this way. I bought the car less than a week prior to the knock starting and also provided all the oil change record to the dealership. The engine was maintained regularly with the oil changes. I don't know what to do now. Any advice is apprciated. I am in Ohio, and the car in PA at a dealership there.

You are the best! You got straight to heaven "pass go" on purgatory (like in monopoly). Seriously, though I am a single women and this issue has been a nightmare. I'm currently having to borrow a car b/c my 2014 Kia Soul is having issues. I don't know if it's gone into limp mode?
Bu it's been having issues for the longest time meaning I add oil every 3 days... but I don't think it was on the list of vehicles they would fix until the second go round of lawsuits? I dunno....
Took it to the dealrship and they refused to help. Said the problem was the piston rings but that I was over the recall. My only issue now is I'm over 150,000 miles...
so I have no idea if they will help. But at least there are good people out there like you trying to help others!

NOOOOOO!!! what dealership told you that? Please share with me that dealsers name cause they are FULL OF ISH!!! lol #1 you are covered, regardless of how many miles you have on your car. With that said, do you know if you have the ksds? This is why I tell people to get my book because it includes documents that you can slap these stupid dealers in the face with and demand they fix your car (when it fails). If they told you it has a piston ring issue then they are acknowledging the current recall. It has nothing to do with the class action lawsuit. You need to call that dealer or in my opinion a different dealer and ask does your car have the ksds. They will ask you for the last 6-8 of your vin and then tell you. If you do then they will fix your engine but it will have to fail first. Please email me and I plan to do a video on this situation. Either way I will help

    • @littlelioness
      @littlelioness 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Wow, that’s crazy & good to hear. I know I must the ksds bc I took it in to get all of its recalls at the same time I was complaining about the engine. I didn’t understand how it worked, and that you needed the recalls in order to be “covered”.
I was a teacher at the time and didn’t have a lot of extra time to try to fix the problem so I was being very cautious with my engine and always checking the oil adding oil for over a year. Now it’s to the point where I had to add it every 3 days.
I told them about the oil issue and they did an oil consumption test. I don’t know if they were trying to get my engine to fail and I didn’t understand but I kept coming to them before because my check engine light doesn’t turn on so I would know that my oil was low when I hit the break. It would come on for a brief second so I would go into the dealer before the Myles, and tell them that I know my oil was low. I don’t know if they were trying to get it to fail but if so I botched their efforts. I was freaking out that if the oil got too low, it was gonna blow the engine, and it would be my responsibility. They were probably trying to blow the engine for me?
But now I’m at the point where the car won’t go above 30 mph, and I think it’s the fuel pump… I don’t know.
All I know is I don’t have another $200 to spend for them to diagnose the issue when I know I need an entire new engine to spend any more money on the vehicle.
I’m happy to help create a video with you for you if you’re able to help me out.
I myself create videos on Catholic issues, so I’m relatively comfortable on camera. At the end of the day what you’re doing is such a blessing to so many people. I’m really thankful there’s people out there like you. 🙏🏼
To answer your questions specifically yes it Hass to have the ksds because I took it to them to get it recalls. And it was a Kia dealership in West Palm Beach Florida.

Beck n Masten denied the engine replacement because I wasn't the first owner. So they are just as difficult to obtain help as it pertains to the engine recall. My engine burns through 2 quarts per week. They told me my option was to either purchase an $8,000 replacement engine or trade it off

I was not only denied an engine, a 2013 Optima and they admitted my engine was locked, but when the tow guy went to pick it up the dealership had hidden it in the lower lot and would not tell him where it was. They also ruined my battery. The manager of the mechanics was not very nice to me, (which I found out later this dealership has a reputation of being rude to customers) and said the people at cooporate sent people like me to the dealerships to get rid of them. Luckily, my son is a mechanic and is installing a new engine. I am spreading to everyone I know KIA sucks. I do NOT trust that place to put an engine in my car.

    • @CarlsGarage
      @CarlsGarage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

You should, cause if they do it, they have to keep replacing the engine forever. Once your son touched it, not only did it cost you but it cost you the lifetime warranty on that engine and every engine moving forward.

I just came across these videos and glad I did. I have a 2016 Kia Sorento. I believe my engine just went out. There was no noise or any indication that something was going on. It just quit driving and will not start. I had AAA come and take it to my house. I'm not sure if my car has the KSDS upgrade. I did however put my VIN number in the Kia site for a claim and and it said that I was eligible for the Thottle II class action settlement. I did not submit anything yet I was more or less just fishing around to get information about the issue. I'm not sure if I should submit the claim or just call Kia directly I don't want to screw anything up on my end any suggestions would be very helpful.

I have a 2017 Kia Soul, I had the KSDS flashed back in 2022, I have an email record of the scheduled appointment, not sure if I have the paperwork, I should though....
What I wanted to ask is, the car has probably went into limp mode twice already. I'm sort of a DIY mechanic so when it did, I checked the engine codes myself and it was a misfire on cylinder 4. Swapping the Ignition coil seemed to "fix" it, but then a month or two later the issue returned. Now it's sitting parked, because we were planning on just trading it in. Do you think the fact that I replaced the ignition coil with an aftermarket part could be a reason they would deny me? Or should it still not be an issue getting the motor replaced?
Thanks for making these videos, we had a friend who had a Hyundai who's car broke down on the side of the road and really hoping that won't happen to us. Will probably end up trading it in right after getting the engine replaced either way.

Hi have Avery interesting take on my 2016 Kia optima. After 6 months of ownership the engine blew. I did not know anything about the KDS software even after taking it n to a Kia dealership for service. After I found your channel was I first learned about it. I found the original dealership that was supposed to have installed the kds update but didn’t and knowing wholesaled it as is. I unknowingly bought it from the wholesaler. After reaching out to Kia for help to no resolve they suggest suing the dealership. As they have replaced the engine and transmission and want me to pay almost $12,000. We’re currently in litigation and to keep you posted as this unfolds. I don’t have the car and been battling in civil court for over a year. I’d like to speak with you if I can as I may take this to a televised court proceeding as we know there’s a great deal of injustice that has to be exposed. Hit me up. Thanks

He was denied any coverage because it was not done. I think it was an oil issue. 66,000 miles oil light flashed very now and then had oil change 3 months prior so I think it it pertaining to this oil issue but I don’t see a recall associated with this. Hi Carl, I purchased my 2016 Kia Optima in 2019 with 33,000 miles. There was a couple of issues with the window regulators and the condenser for the AC which was taking care of by the sale dealership as well as the Kia dealership. Ever since I have been bringing it in for my normal service. So December of 2023 I had an oil change done and by January I did another because the oil was low. The dealership wants me to do an oil consumption test, but they started it may cost hundreds possibly thousands and they still may not find the issue. So I did another oil change by my local certified mechanic and still the oil has not last more than a month. After doing some research calling the dealership about faulty O rings, they are stating no recalls and this is my daily for our family to move around. Any suggestions or advice on how to move forward?

2014 Kia soul I have owned for about 5-6 years now. I noticed it was having oil consumption issues I believe starting back in 2021. I was still under warranty at the time, had multiple consumption tests done. With this they did a special cleaning and also replaced seals. I have been fighting with them to fix the issue as I was told originally that I needed a whole new engine (before I made them aware of my warranty I purchased of course). I never did receive a new engine. It says that all my recall have been completed. In 2023 I was informed I need a new catalytic converter. I have not replaced as I don't have 2000 to replace. I filed nhtsa complaint and complaint to Kia but Said there is nothing they could do. My car is still currently running out of oil before 3,000 Miles driven and My engine sounds like s***. I don't believe this has anything to do with the Knock Sensor issue. It's my understanding these engines have bad valve seals and possibly bad piston rings. This causes oil to go in the combustion chamber and clog up your spark plugs with oil gunk, leading to a misfire. I had the same issue, pulled out the clogged up sparkplug that was misfiring and replaced it and it solved the misfire and shaking. There was a class action lawsuit for the oil burning issue but unfortunately it was just dismissed a few months ago.

2015 Kia optima lx 2.4L was driving to work when car lost speed and slowed to a stop. Lights, radio and etc. was working but car wouldn’t crank. Towed to mechanic and he informed me that the motor locked. Had it towed to Kia and it’s waiting to be seen. Appt. is in April. Been up to date on my maintenance and was never informed of a ksds and don’t really know if it has one. The only recalls I remember getting serviced is the anti theft ones. Before sending the car I did call the dealership and informed them what was going on and he did say that it would be $150 to run a diagnostic. What do I do?

@@CarlsGarageMajor Update: I’ve been watching your videos these past 2 days. Just took a work break and seen this comment from you. While viewing this, Kia just called and said my engine is covered but found something else that needed to be replace close to the starter and while they are doing the engine can fix that as well, which will cost me $50. I said that’s fine.
Told him I been reading up on the recall and asked about a loaner car and said 1 just got back in and they are going to service it and see if I’m next up to get it because my car is going to take about 6 days to be ready.
I did have the ksds. When I took my car for the anti theft recall last year, they updated it then and I’m just so thankful. Get those Kia services at least once at the Kia dealership ship because I wasn’t getting certain notices and I’m the second owner of this car. Also, they didn’t ask me for oil changes maintenance or anything like that.
Your videos have been very informal. My car broke down last week and my appointment with Kia wasn’t until April and it’s been sitting at the dealership since and I been a mess without a car and getting by the best I can from family and coworkers. I’m definitely subscribing.
**Future reference, keep up with paper work and receipts.

My 2012 optima hybrid had the KSDS update a year or so ago, at 151,000 miles - already beyond the 150,000 limited lifetime warranty included in the Safety recall:"... Kia will warrant any engine long block assembly repairs needed due to connecting rod bearing damage for 15 years/150,000 miles starting from the first date of service, whichever occurs first, for both new and used vehicle owners." THe vehicle went into "limp-mode" just the other day (July 2024) and now shows the P1326 (Glow Relay - Stuck On) code as well as U0293 and U1004 codes. THe dealer told me the only option is to have a "Bearing Clearance Test" ($280) performed, then either replace the knock sensors ($700) if it passes, or get a new engine ($7000-10,000) if it doesn't.
Will your book help me in this situation, or am I now longer covered due to my mileage being over the limit when this issue occurred in my vehicle?

They took a month to just check with KIA if engine replacement could be applied. And, they told me it was not covered by KIA. The service rep told me just drive car till it gets failed. No KSDS update was done this time. I got my car back on Nov 24th. Next day, the car went limp mode. I called my insurance company for towing the car to the dealer. They told me again no engine replacement. I got KSDS update this time. but again, I'm driving the Soul still limp mode. I hope I can get the engine replacement...

When my engine lost power and the engine light started blinking and spitting out white smoke from the tailpipe and from under the hood. I automatically pulled over and turned off the engine. My radiator tank didn’t have water and the oil didn’t have oil. But, my car was making a gargling sound and I was stuck for a week and Now my car is at the Hyundai dealership in Hanford, Ca. After speaking with Hyundai Corporate Office.!.

They said it would take 2-3 days to look at it. I read the code on the check engine light before taking towing it to Kia and the code was P1326. I am 99% sure it has the 2.4 or 2.0 engine. They said the diagnosis would be free only if it relates to the engine block. Are there other common issues that happen like this that would throw this same code?

This is why people should really get my book. It clearly states not to type in your vin and to call your local dealership because they are the only people who can fix your car. The online websites will never show your car having a recall because the recall is related to the cars with the theata 2 engine.

Hi Carl. My name is Dawn and I took my car to the dealership and like I’ve stated before, I did everything I was was supposed to do. I took my car to get the ksds update. I took my maintenance records to the dealership and I was still denied, because I was told that the issue with my car has nothing to do with the BOTTOM of my engine. I was told that they heard noise knocking on the top of my engine. The mechanic had also stated that, he had used a “stethoscope,” to hear the knocking in my engine and he said that the noise was coming from the top of the engine. The mechanic also told me that, my car had erased the code itself, so I can at least drive it back home and yes, my car went back onto limp mode. The code is showing p1326. My question is, can the code p1326 also show up, if there’s a different issue within the engine? Also, the mechanic stated that when they had diagnosed my vehicle engine. The diagnosis didn’t show that the problem was with the rod bearing, but I took my vehicle to get the engine light checked again and it still shows the code p1326.

Hi, just found your channel and i'm in the middle of a Hyundai mess😢. I have a 2013 santa fe sport (im the only owner) with 214,000 miles on it. In 2019 at 155,000 miles the engine failed for the bearings and Hyundai replaced it and updated the recall concerning the ksds. Then in Dec 2023 the check engine light came on and my engine seized AGAIN. I took it to my local hyundai dealer and they said its the bearings AGAIN. However, this time ive been in a battle with Hyundai Corp because rather than replacing the engine they are trying to buy it back at kelly blue book value of like $6500 OR give me $2000 and i retain the vehicle and sign a form letting them off the hook for any future problems. Problem is, this is my families only vehicle and im not in a position to get another car. I need the replacement engine which is $10k out of pocket. Any advice?

My Kia is in a dealership right now it has had the KSDS update installed. They have had my car going on a month now and keep giving me the run around. First they wanted documentation of all my oil changes, told them if they looked in the memo section of my manual they’ll see where I’ve written down every oil change I’ve done since I purchased the car. They are now acting as though that probably won’t be good enough I change my oil every 5,000 miles. Kia has them now running a bore scope in each cylinder to check for sludge and buildup. Am I screwed here what should I do? I’ve made them aware of the fact that I know there’s a recall for bad main bearings. Should things really take as long as it has before I receive an answer as to whether or not they are going to do the right thing? If I’m denied, should I pursue a lawyer?
