*Denied due to "Driveway oil changes". Sounds like a simple lawsuit due to a violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. You're allowed to change your oil.*

Agreed. Find an attorney. Clear violation of the law.
Unfortunately, most dealers have binding arbitration agreements on purchases with verbiage that protects the manufacturer too. I don't think they'll hold up in court though.

Don’t know the owners manual for North America, but here in Europe it states maintenance should be carried out according Kia standards, maintenance intervals and oil spec. it’s ‘recommended’ to get it done by a Kia Dealership. So it means, you can do a driveway oil change, as long you do it according Kia standards. I change the oil and filters myself (ofc with the right oil specs) and never had an warranty issue. I even cut the oil change interval in two, because I think 15.000 mile oil changes are crazy.

When my Tucson started to run sluggish, they wanted proof of oil changes. I would have Amazon auto ship my oil filter and oil every 8 months (I work from home so I don't put as much miles as I did before). I had to provide receipts of all the purchases and I am happy that I logged my oil changes in the car manual maintenance log. He sent it up to Hyundai headquarters and it was approved for further tests to see if I need a new engine. Now I need to put 1000 miles on it and send it back in for more tests.

Make sure you take it in for the recall and get the knock sensor installed. My 2014 Sonata’s engine failed in July at 130,000 miles. Took 6 weeks, but Hyundai replaced the engine. If I get another 100k out of it that will be nice. Another issue with Hyundai/Kias are the thefts. Our car insurance rates jumped 40% and my agent couldn’t get quotes from other providers. They were not writing new auto policies due to the thefts.
It’s too bad, because I actually like my sonata. I was considering a Genesis for my next car, but now I don’t know. It took a lawsuit for Hyundai to do the right thing.

I have a 2008 Kia Rondo. At 150,000km the timing chain jumped. The Kia Dealer told me that the chain came off and the piston smashed all my valves (zero compression in all cylinders (2.4 engine) ) and that the engine was "Blown". They advised me that there were no "new engines" available but they could secure and install a rebuilt engine for $10,000. Being mechanically minded, I had my car towed home and I took the engine apart myself. I discovered that the 2.4 engine is a non-interference engine, meaning that the pistons cannot reach a fully open valve, therefore my valves and pistons were 100% good. I called the Kia Dealership to complain, they sent the head mechanic to my home to inspect the engine. He blamed a junior mechanic for the error and handed me the new gasket kits and head bolts to put it back together. I then paid $100 for a new timing chain and fixed the car myself. Rondo now has 250,000km and is still running. Just replaced the timing chain again.

Sounds like a service advisor, there job is to lie to you and get work. This give the mechanic hours at full pay since most kia hyundai tech get 1/2 or 3/4 pay of a job because it's warranty work and service advisor get paid commission off sell. They taught us that in mechanic school, that service advisor are not supposed to know about cars to con you into expensive repairs but they can't always lie as it's legal thing. Example:Reasons why they are always saying we recommend to to repair this instead of you need to repair this, mostly on spark plugs that only have 30k miles but the Manuel says the manufacturer says there good for 60 or 80k miles.

My Hyundai is now going on 12 years old and is over 100,000 miles. The thing runs like a clock and never gives me any problems. Not only that but I also frequently get compliments on its appearance and exhaust note. I also change the oil regularly and only use OEM filters. Working on cars has taught me that like 75% of the time a car is prematurely failing it’s due to sheer neglect or improper maintenance. The vast majority of people have no business owning a car.

Swaybars don’t break on 7 year old cars with 65k miles on it. If it did need replacement it’s only $300 and 1-2 hrs labor. They count on their customer base having more money, little knowledge about cars and just approving everything they say to fix. Be wary for anything they needs to be fixed. We had a brand new loaner for 3-4 weeks----so took a few extra trips in it. And I believe they have upped the warrantees for the cars with the poor engines----by about 2 more years. I had a beautiful Olds Cutlass that had the transmission fail at 13,000 miles----and I had to pay because it was 1000 past warranty. But a class action lawsuit got me 80% of my money back.

So backing them up with no hassles is nice. They have increased the warrantee to 12 years on some of their problematic engines. And yes----Kia has been picked as the best auto in initial claims. I took a chance and bought a 2023 Tucson with the new 2.5 liter engine. I was warned by my excellent salesman to always bring it to a Hyundai dealership for oil changes and transmission service and do it religiously - never be late over the recommended miles. That way if for some reason this new engine is problematic they won't be able to deny a claim. It may sound crazy that I even bought it, but it was such a nice car and I test drove all the competitor's models (RAV4, CRV, Mazda CX50, VW Tiguan, Mitsu Outlander). Plus I got a really good deal - way better than what those other dealers had to offer. So, I thought I'd give Hyundai a chance. Hope I never regret it.

However, I am not sure about their dual clutch transmissions. Ford tried the dry dual clutch thing in their Focus and Festiva and it didn't go so well. I've seen Kias with tons of miles that have had literally zero problems and then I see some that need engines at 50,000 miles. My wife's Elantra had a check engine light come on at 50,000 miles. Took it to the dealer and after checking it, they said it had low compression in cylinder four. They replaced it with a remanned engine and charged me 400.00 dollars copay. I have always changed my own oil, but I thought I am going to have the oil changed here in case there is a problem. Every time I had it changed I would check it the next day after it sat all night. Every time it seemed to be over filled. Next thing I know it develops an oil leak. Took it to the dealer and they said the oil pan gasket was leaking. So, I assume they will pull the pan clean the surfaces new gasket, good to go. Nope they replaced the oil pan and gave mee a bill for 400.00. Since it has that engine cover under the engine, and I did not pull it to have a look, just went by oil on the floor under I will always wonder if maybe the employee may have cross threaded the drain plug and did not want to own up to it but instead had me pay for their error. It happened to me. I bought a brand new Hyundai Sante Fe in 2015. It was not even a year old. I was driving from Austin, TX to my hometown outside of Shreveport, LA. There are no interstates between the 2 cities so alot of back roads/high ways. I was driving down one of these roads when I heard a clinking sound. I noticed I could not get over 60 miles an hour. I called my friend in Austin to ask him should I pull over...he told me keep driving until I couldn't drive anymore. Finally, I made it home. Took it to the dealership in Shreveport, LA and they stated it was some metal shavings in the engine and that they would replace the engine free of charge. I asked did they plan on doing a recall? The Service Tech said they were going to take them as they come in. So, like this video...some people are driving around as 2nd owners of these cars who might not know about the free engines. Hyundai had my vehicle for over a month because the engine had to come from Korea or something like that and there were 13 cars before me. I can say I still have the vehicle, but have not had major problems since then.

I was just recently driving home from LA to TX when I had this knocking sound then then the car started slowing down. Then the oil and check engine lights came on. I had to pull over on this back road on a Friday night. I have been changing the oil every few months and couldn't figure out why I needed some many oil changes before it was time. Today the mechanic said their machine indicated that the knocking sensor had to be replaced then I get another call that it's not only the knocking sensor that is bad but it's the engine as well. Now I need a new engine or get another vehicle. I can't believe they knew about these issues and didn't notify the second owner. I'm calling the dealer in the am and Hyundia Corp office this is crazy.

Law or not, I was shopping around for a new car. That Hyundai/Kia 10 year power train warranty LOOKS good. But google the terms and you'll find that to GET that 10 year warranty, it HAS TO BE SERVICED at a Hyundai/Kia dealership. Now, I know all about the part where legally you don't have to. The part I don't know about is the EXTENDED power train warranty part, beyond the standard bumper to bumper that all new cars come with. And I've heard that regular service appointments at the dealership will run $125 AND MORE each time. But I suspect that if even with the standard 3 or 5 year bumper to bumper warranty, your life will be less complicated when you have a claim IF you did take it to the dealership. In 2005 I bought a new Dodge 1 ton dually diesel. I took it in for a recall at about 25k miles. The service tech spotted a Wix oil filter I was using to do my own servicing. He said that not using a Mopar filter would likely give them a reason not to honor and engine claim. Bottom line is they all will look for a way out on an individual basis, anything to deny a claim. If you buy new, my feeling is take it to the dealer to service at regular intervals, no more than 4k to 5k miles even if it says 7.5k. Make your life a little less hell if you have a problem. I bought a Ram 2017 4x4. I always had it serviced at the dealership until the warranty ran out. Now I do it myself and the truck has 31k currently.

Honestly, all engines almost always die due to lack of oil maintenance. It is reasonable to suggest that the average Kia owner doesn't even know how to open the hood.
And the diagnosis of a "blown engine" doesn't mean jack. It does not pinpoint the failure. Open the engine and look at the crankshaft journals and ask yourself, "Why would the journals farthest away from the oil pump be the one that is dry with obvious evidence of it getting hot?"
In any case, if you own and drive a Kia and the engine lets go at 100,000 miles and it costs you $6,000 for another one, you may as well go that route, as you can run the thing another 100,000 quite easily. The overall cost of ownership is still going to be less than most anything else out there.

They would last longer if people would just check the oil, keep it topped...but they dont. I have a friend with a quick oil change business. A lady with a couple kids, regular customers, came in while I was there. It was a Chevy Traverse. Out of curiosity, I went into the bay to see him check the oil before he got to work. NOTHING on the stick. And he said it's not the first time. Even if it uses a quart every thousand miles, owner's would get a lot more usage if they'd just check the dang oil at least weekly.

And I've talked to many mechanics and can't get a good consensus of opinion on the factory recommended oils like 0w-20, 5w-20 ect. Some say it's also a gimmick others say I'll ruin the engine if I don't. I have a Ram truck 2017 with 31k and I'm still using 5w-20. But I also have a high mileage 2010 Dodge Avenger (2.4L) that I bought with 150+k for around town driving. It now has 173+k miles and I'm using 5w-20. The dealership kept the car for over 2 months as they are still completely overwhelmed by warranty repairs. Yes, they may have Americas best warranty, as they like to always quote. But, it does no good when the entire car is garbage after 100,000 miles.

I have a 2023 HEV Niro SX, which I bought new in January 2023. When breaking in the engine in a new car, I always try to vary engine speed/load during the first 500 miles, making many short trips, with gradually harder acceleration and more revs, avoiding steady speed driving at all costs. At its first 8,000 mile service, there appeared to be little or no oil consumption. This has been true for the previous 3 cars I have owned. A 2016 Honda HR-V turned 100,000 miles last week, and still uses no discernible oil between 5000 mile oil changes.

    • @gabriellependleton7181
      @gabriellependleton7181 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Fight it. Look up how all of the parts are connected. Valves are apart of the engine block. Which if you have the ksds update then according to Kia's settlement paperwork you're pretty much covered. Don't let them tell you that your vehicle isn't covered because it isn't throwing rod bearing codes. It takes more than reading engine codes to get to the bottom of things. Your pistons are moved by your rod bearings and pistons with bad clearance can damage your valves and guess what? It's apart of the engine block assembly outlined in the settlement. Rod bearings was not the only thing listed in that settlement.

KIA denying the Ganslers an engine because their son did oil changes at home is BS. I always do the oil changes (and tire rotations, brakes, air filter replacement, etc.) myself and KIA replaced my engine at 130K in December of 2020 BUT I had to go through the nonsense of the dealership performing two "oil consumption" tests. The test had to show the engine burned more than 1-quart at 1000-miles. This was easy for me to prove since it burned 1-quart at 500-miles (a weeks worth of driving for me.) Doing this AND calling their "customer care" number and threatening to join the lawsuit led to getting a "case number" that I gave the dealership so they could start the process of engine replacement. My KIA dealer is Citrus Motors KIA in Ontario, California.

  • @brianwilliams2348

Doing your own oil change shouldn't disqualify you for a motor that is faulty already. I did some of my own oil changes in my 2019 Kia Forte and when the engine blew I was authorized a new motor within 5 days. I also had gaps in my records because I didn't keep records for the oil changes I did. Also don't deal with the dealership as far as talking their word for things. Call the corporate numbers and speak with someone there. There were a few times I called to get information from the dealer and come to find all the information they told me wasn't true. The dealerships don't seem to like to do this kind of work because they have to wait on payment from the manufacturer.
