I've bought the PS3 back in the time it was new, the second model. Only recently I did this and now I'm revisiting lots of great games I loved, as also meeting new ones. I'm so happy with it, it's great!
@@niacinn @MrMario2011 has several walkthroughs for both custom firmware and Homebrew enabler if your ps3 can’t take custom firmware. Took about 30 minutes for initial set up. Then you venture down the rabbit hole !!! Have fun modding !!!!
Grew up in the 80's, had and still have pretty much all consoles ever made. But till this day Ps3 still my favourite console. Simply love it. I also have all sorts of emulators as well but always prefer to pick an original game of the shelves and play it, rather than having 1000's of games available through a click of a button. To me it takes away some of the fun. Picking up a physical game, looking at the case art, looking at pictures on the back, just gives it thát much extra to me and makes it a much more enjoyable experience. With that said, i do think this mod is extremely cool! Great stuff! Wouldn't mind having one.❤

I do collect as well but nowhere near any form of completion. And Yeah I do agree, it's still nice to have emulators at hand. They can be very convenient. My last project was completely customizing and personalizing my Mame. So instead of downloading all the standard packs, I manually made screenshots of every single game and every single title in it. Also manually searched for game art, cabinet art and more. And last but not least, instead of downloading rom packs I manually downloaded and tested every single game in it individually. A) To make sure they all work perfectly. And B) Instead of having to scroll through 1000's of games I never play anyway, I restricted the roms to games I absolutely love. The end result is a Mame with only 367 games in it. It does help loving emulators more. No endless copies and clones. No endless lists with games I don't like. Just a nice clean list full of greatness. A true labour of love, as it should be👏

U can easily do it yourself there are literally "cfw tutorials for dummy's" so to say and all u need is a ps3 and those ain't expensive these days I got one recently for 50eur and did it with a tutorial in less than an hour
Ps3hen is awesome for the PS3 super slim. Only thing it doesn't have is the PS2 backups but there's a few workarounds. Not as much as the slim but still good.
It's not to bad converting them to packages and giving them cover art. Nothing is as easy as a og 60gb but those aren't reliable as that 28nm chip thats in the super slim.
agreed. "ps2 classics Placeholder" and Multiman (being able to encrypt iso's) is a Godsend. i learned that if the .ENC files dont work you can convert them into PKG files 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I've had a modded fat model the last few years that I modded myself. But, I just bought a PlayStation Move set and sharpshooter attachment so I can play on-rails shooters.
@@reggiezaza6016 if something go wrong it will help you in long run to solder another one . Plus modchip works way better then fmcb on slims or hdd . Maybe a fat with hdd will be better as modchip ? I didnt try it i have hdd internal for ps2 fat and all too lazy to try it . Cause usb & fmcb is bad audio delay and cutsences not so good it got problems sometimes glitches. I always recommend my modchipped ps2s which i bought . Over fmcb . Till i try it on fat ps2 with fmcb i may compare its too mush time waste to do that .
I absolutely love my Fat PS3 CFW...best mod I did for the old unit. Especially being able to upgrade the disc drive and cutin fan control are just a few of the things you can do.
This guy has 100-something ps2 games that he proud of. But do they even run acceptably? I just bought a modded ps3 slim, and I don't think ps2 should work well. What do you think?
I would say, a PS2 is so cheap to get that perhaps the effort to make it work on a PS3 slim is not worth. I play some games ps2 games on my ps3 slim, but I know some games have issues to run properly.
The Super Slim is already modable nowadays. I got one for $40 and modded in like 20min. I was surprised at how easy it is compared to the Xbox 360. I never had a PS3 before, just bought because the price looked too good and been having a blast. I even managed to use my X360 controller on the PS3 thanks to a plugin lol
My last console was a PS4 & not played it in 3 years. Gaming now, is all about In-Game Purchases if you want to get anywhere in a game, better soccer players, better weapons in battle games, better car mods in racing games. You end up spending $150 dollars total for game plus bought items to get to level you are remotely competetive online. I mean its a horrible con from greedy companies.

@@tofer.A Yeah if I recall correctly the PS3 doesn't like anything over 1.5TB to be installed internally which severely limits your backup potential when trying to keep backups up PS1/2 and PS3 games.
I got a Slim just because for SO MANY YEARS I WANTED to play inFamous and once I jailbroke my PS3 Slim and I recently got this 1 game changing around $10 solution for the PS3's lack of bluetooth audio that isn't up to date... YEP a Bluetooth transmitter that can transmit via USB AUDIO or if you have a composite audio to aux adapter you can use that too!!
the super slim ps3 is moddable with HEN and with a 2tb ssd (highly recommended over an HDD) also with "Ps2 Classics Placeholder" it can run ps2 games, just need to encrypt the ".iso" files to ".ENC" using Multiman (directly on the ps3 or another app on PC) OR convert it into a PKG file. I got a 1tb ssd in my super slim and it runs basically evey single ps2 game i wanted flawlessly....except Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks 😔 so many graphical hiccups in both PKG and .ENC format and the Tony Hawk games: THUG 1 AND 2 and American Wasteland (All had to be converted to PKG's in order to fix graphical fidelity issues) but other than those few, it works SURPRISINGLY well.

I actually own a Super Slim Ps3 which I got the webman mod to work on. After I put in a a 320 gb hdd. But the machine itself has.. some crashes from time to time. I don't know if that is specific to the model of ps3 or the mod, but it's bearable. But I have been on the lookout for the Slim model to see what it can do. But it's totally worth it. ^^
I have done this myself with a Seagate 1Tb external hdd .. pretty much exactly the same just used some videos from Blaine's youtube. Great showcase but it can be done with some patience and time.
Great video showing off the PS3. I wonder why you have all these consoles modded up but every console has the same emulators and games? If i were in your boots, I'd have just the games specific for the console. Example PS = PS games, PS2 = PS2 games. You get the picture, yeah? To each their own I guess. But that's how I'm currently modding all my PlayStations. And for the people wanting the PS3 BC, stay away from those as they are more prone to break as the software is not great with the hardware. That's why they are scarce and most are broken. I don't think they can be repaired. If they can, then fill your boots....
I have 2 PS3s. One is a Slim model that I jailbroke and then I have a super slim that is unmodded. I actually used to have a fat model PS3 but that's another story.
you can actually mod ps3 superslim but not by custom firmware, but hybrid firmware, aka the hen, and actually I find it very simple to mod it, but I don't think you can play ps2 games, I heard you can play ps1 and there is a way to play them but I didn't try them and they say that ps2 games are not stable on hybrid firmware, but still I did not try it great video btw keep it up!
You can mod the super slim model you can put han or hen and you can play ps1 ps2 and ps3 games it's easy to do that, the only thing you cannot do it's run emulators and multiman but it's not the end of the world. I'm happy that I can play 3 generations of Playstation in one device
You could certainly do it yourself much cheaper but it's the device cost and labour your paying for so it's down to if youd rather pay someone else or diy really

Would you say for exclusively collection purposes, would just having this model PS3 be better than having this plus the backwards compatible one? I already have the model from this video but I have been searching for the backwards compatible one thinking that was the best way to play PS2 games on it. Am I good as is?
I have done this too. PS2 games makes the console sound like a aeroplane about to set off! It's crazy so I jave moved to emulating PS2 games on Xbox Series S upscaled which I find much better for.
@@gg1648 I think there was an app to do that but I both my Sixaxis and Dualshock pads are gone (stick drift and battered battery) and as mentioned since getting Xbox in Dev mode it's even better!
A ps3 is a very good emulation device and even the games that it has are very good but you need to keep in mind that there are a lot of failure points on all consoles and so few answers still to this day. You can buy one but you'll have to take the gamble on it's condition at the moment
PS2 rules but PS3 is next up for me. I usually only play a few games which are SF5, Chainsaw Lollipop, gt5, NFS The Run, Red Dead and a few others. This emulation driven PS3 is fire AF though. I made an arcade using my backwards compatible PS3 and arcade sticks, it's great for playing games like mvc3, SF5 etc basically arcades that are way too pricey for my blood. I highly recommend building an arcade like mine. I even play all the time crises games on it and I can always switch consoles/arcade sticks or even use a Pandora's box
Have you found a working ZX Spectrum emulator at all please on yours? I downloaded one called FUSE Alpha build and it starts up and goes back to XMB. I’ve got PS1 to PS3 games working, Amiga games working and retroarch with a all in one build but unfortunately just the ZX Spectrum that I can’t seem to find anyone to have a updated stand alone emulator working for it.
I have the PHAT full backwards compatible OG model, just fired it up for the first time in over 10 years. It’s still on Version 4.3, was wondering if I should update to the new 4.91? I’m asking because I don’t want to lose the ability to play marvel vs Capcom which is a PS2 game. Also not able to sign in to PSN without update. Also, mine is factory never modded.

I have that same red God of War Edition super slim ps3. HEN mod and a 1TB going to put a 2TB or just use the 2TB as external. My issue is for the life of me i cant get most PS2 games to work. I was not using ISOs but instead converting them to PKGs but there are so many diff types of programs to do that i guess im picking the wrong one. Same with PSP. Which programs did you use?

I just Frankensteined my A01 FATPS3 and it's excellent. It's quiet, plugged into a Retrotink 4k, and it's perfect.

PS3 super slim can be modded with PSHEN, it works good. I can play PS3/1 and with the proper configuration PS2 as well.

Cfw is great and all but so is hen on a super slim it's also the most reliable Ps3 and easiest to repair.

Would you say for exclusively collection purposes, would just having this model PS3 be better than having this plus the backwards compatible one? I already have the model from this video but I have been searching for the backwards compatible one thinking that was the best way to play PS2 games on it. Am I good as is?
Personally I think the best model of the PS3 is the first one that has near complete BC. I would def get one if you can find it for a decent price

I have done this too. PS2 games makes the console sound like a aeroplane about to set off! It's crazy so I jave moved to emulating PS2 games on Xbox Series S upscaled which I find much better for.
No other way 2 make it run quieter 😮?
@@gg1648 I think there was an app to do that but I both my Sixaxis and Dualshock pads are gone (stick drift and battered battery) and as mentioned since getting Xbox in Dev mode it's even better!

A ps3 is a very good emulation device and even the games that it has are very good but you need to keep in mind that there are a lot of failure points on all consoles and so few answers still to this day. You can buy one but you'll have to take the gamble on it's condition at the moment
Can you play online multiplayer with this aswell or does it get your acc banned when you try to connect to psn?

Just went to my local game shop and picked up a fat ps3 with a white OEM controller for $70
PS2 rules but PS3 is next up for me. I usually only play a few games which are SF5, Chainsaw Lollipop, gt5, NFS The Run, Red Dead and a few others. This emulation driven PS3 is fire AF though. I made an arcade using my backwards compatible PS3 and arcade sticks, it's great for playing games like mvc3, SF5 etc basically arcades that are way too pricey for my blood. I highly recommend building an arcade like mine. I even play all the time crises games on it and I can always switch consoles/arcade sticks or even use a Pandora's box

Have you found a working ZX Spectrum emulator at all please on yours? I downloaded one called FUSE Alpha build and it starts up and goes back to XMB. I’ve got PS1 to PS3 games working, Amiga games working and retroarch with a all in one build but unfortunately just the ZX Spectrum that I can’t seem to find anyone to have a updated stand alone emulator working for it.

I have that same red God of War Edition super slim ps3. HEN mod and a 1TB going to put a 2TB or just use the 2TB as external. My issue is for the life of me i cant get most PS2 games to work. I was not using ISOs but instead converting them to PKGs but there are so many diff types of programs to do that i guess im picking the wrong one. Same with PSP. Which programs did you use?
