    Would you ever consider releasing your old patreon exclusives on youtube? Like the ones from last year or similar offset. I've really appreciated the podcasts to help introduce me to more concrete theory other than reading texts and listening to interpretations of these texts. Thanks for being a place for theory and philosophy and exposure to very interesting and enlightening guests.

      Most likely not. Because I want to offer Patrons something valuable in return for helping me sustain this financially. Plus the concept of the “the backroom” is sort of a part 2 podcast to every podcast I do, in which the guest can say things that they may not be willing to say on a larger public platform.

    There is a hell of a lot of information here. Varn seems to know a lot about this massive constellation / family tree (sorry for mixed metaphors) of political movements. Someone could make a really fancy flow chart of all this. I know only a tiny percent of these groups, it's pretty interesting and could probably be helpful to contextualizing today's weird discourse. I tend to see today's weird discourse in an isolated and disorienting way, so this kind history can be very valuable in order to make more sense of it. I'm not sure what Varn's own positions are, but I'll look into more of his stuff.

    About midway through: I don’t think you get how Mussolini became a Fascist because he was a sellout. Fascism does and always has served the interests of Capital, first and foremost, and Mussolini became inordinately wealthy by creating a politics that undermined the Italian Left and used violence to secure the dominant position of Capital...
    Read some of Kautsky's early works for more on Fascism and Capital. You guys clearly hate the idea of calling anyone a sellout, but this is friggin' Mussolini you're talking!

    Really enjoy all of your previous videos but this one gave me a weird vibe.
    I never knew Varn before this video and probably need to look at his other work.
    If I had to put it into words the best example would be Varn highlighting his online fights with people. Feeling very terminally online and contrarian for its on sake a pessimistic vibe. Something I am struggling with is how do you critique left groups without making people feel hopeless to change things…. I think that is what my issue is.
    Gotta sit with this but happy to listen and thanks Varn for sharing!

    • @nikolademitri731
      @nikolademitri731 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      When I first discovered Varn circa 2018/2019, I learned a lot, but I really didn’t care for a lot of his opinions on current politics, bc I felt it was too pessimistic, and it contradicted things I was still clinging too at the time. I too got a “weird vibe”, as jn thinking he was just too much a contrarian. These few years later, I’ve had to accept the fact that most of Varn’s critiques were actually correct on many of the issues I thought he seemed too pessimistic about. Maybe he sometimes IS a contrarian on some issues, but I’ve found that over time, as I see things play out, that it’s coming from the fact he’s just way more well read on theory and history than I am, and he’s often correct.
      I’ve now been a viewer of Varn Vlog for a few years, and a patron for maybe a little more than a year. I recommend watching his channel, even if you do so primarily for learning, while taking the position that he’s too pessimistic and negative. I did that initially, and considered it valuable to have a contrary opinion from a well read left standpoint, even if he often annoyed me. I watched him with that mindset for a solid year, before begrudgingly accepting that his channel (especially with the amount of Patron content) was probably where I’d learn more than any other single channel, even when I disagreed with some current political critique. Varn is flawed like everyone is, but of the top 3 left/marxist channels I always suggest to people to deepen and broaden their knowledge, he’s consistently in that lot. Cheers ✊✌️

      @@jcoprario967 They also annoyed the shit outa me when they asserted Midwestern Marx guys of simping for Russia. It infuriates me how so many on the left are so either uninformed or misinformed about the historical context surrounded Russia and th current Ukrainian government leading up to and since Russia's invasion two and a half years ago. And whenever anybody actually discusses that conflict in a fair and balanced manor and willing to admit that regardless of how awful Putin and the Russian government may be, (and they're both pretty awful from a communists' perspective), but the vast majority of the reasons that Russia gave for invading are simply the truth. I mean obviously they're taking the facts that best support they're narrative, but the facts are the facts. There are plenty of leftists saying the same thing, from Aaron Mate, to Chris Hedges, to Max Blumenthal, to Danny Heiphong, the Due Dissodence guys, to those at RBN, along with plenty of experts who aren't radicals in the slightest - like Stephen Cohen, Jeffrey Sachs, and John Mearsheimer. And though i personally don't support what Russia did by invading, but i certainly understand why and their given justification is valid. Of course if one ever fuckin mentions this reality, far too many fellow leftists have a kneejerk response to join in on the neo-McCarthyist smearing of those telling the truth by labelling them as Putin-Apologists and shit.
      And it's even more outrageous to label them being China-simps too, just because they talk positively about China and it's system. Listen, i have a ton of criticisms of both China and the guys at Midwestern Marx, but this shit-lib tankie-bashing bullshit just annoys the fuck outa me. Especially seeing as how 1Dime has put out a shit ton of great content over the years, especially when it comes to mmt. He does a great job explaining what it is, which is something i wish other fellow leftists would watch because sadly - most of them love bashing mmt. But when they do, they demonstrate - that they all almost to a tie - simply have no fuckin clue what mmt even is, let alone making decent arguments against it. And that's just one topic, he's done a great job on a lot of shit. Which is why this sorta shit is especially frustrating for me. Sorry for the rant

    Claremont is west coast Straussian a la Harry V Jaffa in its origins. It has developed, but not identical to Dineen or Vermeule. There is a conservative Xian (Catholic and/or Protestant) aspect, and there is a libertarian aspect. Perhaps not a coherent ideological party line. In practice maybe “fighting” like Dineen and Vermeule, and shares similar concerns with First Things. But not identical.
