    Many have asked me for tips on how to read a lot. Here is a hack that I use all the time to consume 10x more books when I don’t have time to read (I typically only read physical books in the morning): I use this app called Speechify, which is by far the best text-speech reader on the internet (trust me I have tried em all). You can plug in PDFs or links of books or articles, and it will read them to you. It’s scary how many of the AI voices feel exactly like real humans. If I had used this app earlier in my life, I would have saved SO much money on not buying audiobooks.
    You can sign up using my link here (I will get a little affiliate commission): speechify.com/?source=fb-for-mobile&via=1Dime

    Oh man, the point about how Christianity's way of saying it's good to be poor acts as a way of pacifying them was so good and one of the first thoughts that pushed me to the left.

    the problem with power is that people who deserve power are rarely the one who hold OR EVEN WANT IT. I never wanted to have any political power. Never was interested in it. Because I am not a sociopath. Nor did I ever wanted to control people

    Great stream! The Dime and the Gopnik!
    Just one clarification regarding Gandhi -
    Gandhi's non-violence also didn't result in any revolution. Far from it. Actually it directly opposed it and helped in averting it.
    The various violent revolts and uprisings by tribal communities, peasants and workers had become more radical and organised at the start of the 20th century. This is when the British colonisers propped up the Indian National Congress to serve as a bourgeois safety valve "official opposition". Even many extremists and radicals within the Congress started leaving it very soon because of this. That is when the rulers used Gandhi's genuine mass appeal to their advantage (which was unmatched by any other leader at the national level), against all the socialist and other radical movements which had gained immense influence. These movements didn't just want independence from Britain, they wanted an end to all feudal and capitalist exploitation regardless of whether it was perpetrated by "whites" or "browns". Therefore, Gandhi's non-violence allowed Imperialism to come to a compromise with India's emerging ruling class and avoid a revolution.

      Great point! Any good books or articles you recommend that?

      Arundhati Roy has some great lectures comparing and contrasting Gandhi and Ambedkar. Alpa Shah also has good books and lectures on the Naxalites (the peasant maoists). I don’t have a specific book recommendation for the history in the comment above though, gotta read more myself.

    Forget about equality of opportunity and equality of outcome. To arrive at an egalitarianism that actually makes sense, you have to think about equality of *power*.

    There is no moralistic reading of Marx! He is purely scientific.

    • @XHitsugaX
      @XHitsugaX 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      depends. His judaism-critique book certainly had moral elements. But yeah marx himself was pretty imoral and unpleasant man outside of his work so it makes sense why he rarely engaged in moralism.

    • @TechMik3LP
      @TechMik3LP 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@XHitsugaX thats very one sided, marx was really empathetic to the plight of the working class and also loved his children very much.

    • @XHitsugaX
      @XHitsugaX 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TechMik3LP he didny t allow his basdard son any dignity . he hid it from the public and Engels helped with it. Frederick Demuth was his name. Marx never visited the kid, and he grew up thinking he is engels illegitimate son. Even after Marx death he was only allowed to visit his mother only through the backdoor. This is the reality of Marx and Engels.
