  • Donald Parkinson of Marxist Unity Group, the Democratic Left, and Cosmonaut Magazine visit to discuss a work that is both more dated and more open about Dugin's actual politics, Putin Vs Putin (Arktos, 2014). WE also digress about contemporary uses and hidden usages of Dugin.

    Early "social democracy" was literally marxism. Lenin based the early rsdlp off the SPD model and specifically the Erfurt Program which was basically Kautsky's program.

    Also would be curious what you make of "China"'s Global Civilization Initiative.
    I think I'm that nominalist Dugin rails about bc I don't think there are discrete civilizations, cultures, or nations. And nothing should be reified, always being in flux and on it's way somewhere.
    I prefer the rhetoric of grand style, and see a lot of this as hemming and hawing in lieu of really having a grand style, in the sense of a grand strategy. It's similar to how I never hear anything about how we're going to settle the military question, no one believes enough in that

    Just listened to this to parts of this half asleep so excuse the rather specific line of inquiry that may not be specific to what this is about. But it's things I've been meaning to ask for a while, so.
    Let's not forget that Europe's in the mess that it is in in no small part because it lets the US print the money and buy the European capital with it. I'm not fond of Dugin but he's got some more (and some less practical) intuitions here. Also Infrahaz as a self proclaimed Hudsonite may not actually be all that comparable with Dugin besides on a surface level. On that note I'll continue to hold up Hudson's critique of Saint Augustine as well as Steve Keen's description of the economy that Michael Hudson seems to fully endorse by the way (Quote "he's talking about the mathematics but we're in agreement as to what we're talk"; vid on his channel "Watching the World Divide in Half") until you do a little more targeted critique of the nitty gritty. Maybe "they don't understand politics" would be a fair thing to say but what do I know? And what's the politics you'd want an Infrahaz to indulge in? Maybe a critique of virtue ethics is due since that's kind of what he's doing? Also since I heard Jeff Sachs really extol that recently (in that book club series; episode on chinese classical philosophy or whatever). Cheers!

    I hate to pick on details, but "Wahabbi salifism" and "Al quds salafism" is a very incorrect and misleading framework of identification for the tendencies you are referring to there, for several reasons.

    • @VarnVlog
      @VarnVlog  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pauldemelto6650. I said did say Salafism but I don’t think I mention Wahabbism. That’s specifically Saudi and while westerns make be hey of it, that isn’t the kind of Salafism I encountered in Middle East much. Al quds- that may be me butchering pronouncing Sayyid Qutb. Honestly, I know the religious background is Shia of the maga-communist in question. The Duginist influence in Salafism communities in Europe is something I know only vaguely about and I am not sure which schools or thinkers are particularly vulnerable. What tendencies should we be mentioning?

      @VarnVlog I can listen again, but I thought you used the terms I mentioned. I get it if you meant to refer to Sayyid Qutb as sort of a focal point or reflection of the Ikhwan/Muslim Brotherhood tendencies, but that's not salafism. (as an aside I'd also mention if you're interested, that there are other, more contemporary interpretations of Qutb that I mean to examine in near future) and I think on the other side I just meant that it's way clearer to just say "Salafism" and eschew "Wahabbi Salafism" as like, imprecise. Many salafis would never identify as "Wahabbi," and I mean including many Saudis. "Wahabbism" is seen as a Western designation in some circles. If you didn't use the term "Wahabbi-Salafism," this question is moot, and do forgive me for commenting... imprecisely!!
      To answer your question.... I'm like, whoa, dude, Duginism influence or discussion among European salafis is totally new to me, and I will definitely get back to you about this. That's also why I'm listening to this again, not to see if I corrected you incorrectly, but to just absorb it better. I was distracted during parts because my power was out. It was hot, and I listened when gunshots and fireworks were in session.
      Truly, I have been listening to most episodes more than once. I'm a little bummed it took me too long to discover this after you left Zero. I do not know that story, I just know that this is providing MUCH MORE what I need.
      In fact, I would love to write to you with a few questions, if you wouldn't mind.
      I'm old and was involved peripherally in the SWP's work around Cuba on the 90s. More of a simple-minded supporter of the Cuban Revolution than an SWP deformed "Trotskyist" of their 90s Barnesite variety... I read a lot of Marxist and anarchist stuff, too... later in life I got an undergrad degree in International relations and focused a lot of work on Islamic Modernism, or Modernist and revivalist movements in Islam, in addition to continuing to read "left" theory a bit.
      I'd love to hit you up for some reading suggestions and plan to follow you closely here and read along with the readings you do from now on.
      Thank you for an excellent vlog. I'm really getting a lot of value from it. Immense.
