Some people moan whatever the situation, he/she can’t sing, he/she is too old, he/she sings too much, he/she should retire etc etc… truth is the critics can’t do much other than whinge about the achievements of others…
@@theelvisguru9490 I've seen Gillian with Deep Purple twice in the last 3 years. His voice is not shot nor gone to shit. It's changed, sure and he no longer screams the high notes or screams. But he sings in the original key and if you are there live watching the show he is incredible.
Excellent! He's totally having a blast. And who wouldn't show off a bit if as a 70+ years old and after decades long drug habit still possessed such a good physical and vocal health. Besides he isn't ruining the melody lines here. He has done that oversinging/screaming many times in the past but not in here.

While I’ll always love Ian’s voice being the original and obviously fit in best with Purple and I think David actually hit his prime in Whitesnake, I’ll always be most impressed by Glenn. He blows away Ian and David with his range,timbre,and overall soulfulness of whether he’s singing Trapeze, Purple, Black Country Communion, or his solo work. But understand that his drug years were really detrimental to his voice and confidence. If you read his bio, he was as far gone as it gets for drugs. He had enough vocal talent and raw ability that he was still very good, but once he cleaned up, his voice and range went into the stratosphere. He’s been a poster child for clean & sober since then and he’s achieving heights he never had with Trapeze or Purple with his vocals. Just check out his version of Highway Star with Steve Via and Chad Smith or the John Lord tribute concert. And doing it all in his 70’s to boot.
Glenn has amazing vocals. He is teaming up with Yngvie and it will be the "Arrogance Attitude Tour". They both will be butting heads for the limelight.

Deep Purple, this is not, Hughes is Hughes, wish him well, but 2 or 3 years in Purple, when they were not doing their best music, does not make him a legend, it's that simple, his career output does not stack well against Ian Gillan and Deep Purple. hell, even Gillan as a band smoke what Glen has done solo. Granted his voice , is still great, but apples are apples and oranges are oranges !

Although he's known as "The Voice of Rock," for my money, Hughes has always had a tendency to over-sing on certain songs. Unnecessary vocal runs and a lot of high-pitched screaming simply because he knows he can, which ultimately adds nothing to the song. He's still a rock legend, though.
Completely agree ... Glenn is by far the most annoying thing in MIII live albums. I do agree he has a well preserved voice but on the other hand he's always overscreaming ... and usually out of tone ! Singing Highway Star is a bit ridiculous.
Glen Hughes is a freak of nature. I have said this for 30 years. He's like a bottle of wine, he gets better with age!

He's not cute like he once was, but he can still sing. Seen him a few years ago in a club in Michigan and it was a good show.

Not sure but I would guess bc that bass line is hard enough by itself I couldn’t imagine anyone playing it while singing.
