Loved him since the first Extreme album. I saw him play with Van Halen, and he nailed every DLR and Hagar song plus his own songs with VH. Doesn't miss a note and he knows the personality of every lyric!
It is amazing how Gilbert can just fly somehow in retro mode, others would be obviously overplaying this, but Paul Gilbert somehow makes it all fit perfectly
I love that about Paul. And everything of his for me sounds reachable on guitar , until I try it. Maybe stamina, he's getting better and better with age.
Portnoy! Having to much fun. Cherone is awesome. Who else you gonna get? Sheehan..a master. And Paul Gilbert guitar. One of the best. They have 4 different cover acts. Who,Zep,Rush and the Beatles. Because Mike Portnoy the super man loves Moon and Peart and Bonham and the Beatles. AS do many drummers. He is celebrating his influences that helped him through 25 years of Dream Theater.
This is a damn fine version of YMB. Portnoy and Gilbert in particular not only nail the sounds of Moony and Pete but even the look! That drum set looks like a spot on replica of one of Keith’s classic kits. The lack of hi-hats. It’s just fantastic to this old Who fan! And the pants and shirt Paul has on is a great replica of what Pete wore in the won’t get fooled again scene from The Kids are Alright. Fantastic guys!
Ladies and GENTS: This is a song that was covered by The Who on 1970's 'Live at Leeds" album. This is not a Zeppelin song. This is an amazing cover of an amazing cover. These guys were obviously playing this in the spirit of The Who...And, they do a fooking brilliant job of it!
As a 40 + year '00' and having seen them twice. 20 years between gigs. The last one in 2009 having been the very best rock concert I have attended. This tribute has just blown my fucking mind. Thank you to you all.
This has nothing to do with Led Zeppelin--this is a tribute to The Who, and an amazing one at that! The band name is a Who song, Portnoy is wearing a Who bullseye shirt, and the artwork on the bass drums replicates The Who circa 1967 - 68. Amazing cover of a legendary Who cover!
What an incredible array of talent! I love when guys like these get together on projects. I could see this as permanent (not playing the same style) as Dream Theater. Billy Sheehan is totally my favorite bass guy-dude-man...Oh crap they all are..
You got that right but the whole output is a great treat, so obviously Gilbertish. Paul has never lost his child-like love and appreciation on his heroes. I think he dies before he gets old and I feel the same myself. "Old" being adult and dull.
I am a huge Billy Sheehan fan since the late 80s, Paul Gilbert and Mike Portnoy are amazing and Gary Cherone does an excellent job. BUT: This is nothing compared to the raw power and technically finesse of The Who in their prime. Just watch the 1970 Isle of Wight concert and make your own decision. Peace!
Man they should have made an album. This is lit as fuck! Paul having a Townsend moment, Billy & Mike laying down a solid groove, and Gary cherone making plant like growlers. Sounds like the led zeppelin who.
Man, Mike Portnoy has played so much with Billy Sheehan over the years! Amazing Journey, Sons of Apollo, Portnoy Sheehan MacAlpine Sheridan, The Winery Dogs... They got amazing chemistry!
It's astounding to see Billy still showing the kids how it's done. This video really recorded his side really well. I can hear every note of his, clearly. Amazing!
This was from a tour of just a few cities where they played only music of The Who...so Paul is being Pete. This dictated his guitar choices (all Ibanez guitars in Gibson shapes), etc. I saw the Chicago-area show (billed as a Mike Portnoy Drum Clinic) and Paul used HIWatts. INCREDIBLE SHOW!!!
Noticed the black tape across the Marshall logos on all four 4x12 cabinets. Was that a Townsend thing from back in the dayz, or was Paul making a comment? Just curious. GREAT vid, thanks for posting. Got any more?
Yeah he's definitely always had his own sound. He can shred like a madman, but he never makes it sound bad or overdone, and knows when to play in the pocket.
...the guy's a beast. I can only hope to play a fraction as good as he is. Thank goodness for the tube that allows us to see these dudes in action. Cheers
I find it very satisfying that even when you put togeter the world's best musicians, they not even can come close to the synchronized sound the Who had back in the day. Good effort tough.
I don't care what anyone says.Gary Cherone killed it. I saw him in the early Extreme days, and what one might think is lacking vocally is made up for in stage presence and improvisation big time.
im on the floor now............ can anything be this good... billy plays like posseded., i forgot how amazing he is... mike seeems relly to love to play this kind pf stuff... Paul... well he always make me practice..how can u play like that on the solo part... i love u man... u are the greatest ever... for me :)
As awesome as all these legendary musicians are, I kinda wish that Gary had more time singing. I was waiting for more verses and maybe a part where the tune rides into a groove.
I don’t get where Paul’s English accent is coming from?? Epic players ! Gary sounds awesome ! He nailed classic rock Rodger Daltrey Robert plant and remained original !!Billy is the combination of every epic player blended into one epic but classic player
This is half of Mr Big and yet they make it sound like a completely different band and sound! Of course, the other half is also made of up of two greats, Gary and Mike.
If the surviving members of Mr. Big ever decide to reunite, they should definitely get Mike Portnoy on drums to replace the late Pat Torpey. Oh man, that would kick ass!
This is so good. Beautiful how they give it up legit to The Who, too, individually. Sounds like they all wore out Live at Leeds in several formats, and they have it, down to whose shoes they're in. And out it comes. It's a nice thing.
I like how people are so amazed by their being no hi-hats on the kit. if they knew anything about The Who they would know that Drummer Keith Moon(RIP) rarely used hi-hats and when he did he usually played them open anyway.
Sheehan is really amazing.
Gary Cherone is the best !!! rocker singer !!!
Loved him since the first Extreme album. I saw him play with Van Halen, and he nailed every DLR and Hagar song plus his own songs with VH. Doesn't miss a note and he knows the personality of every lyric!
It's pretty much one of the best super collab's ever !
Paul is totally dressed in Townsend style. This whole thing is a definite tribute to the Rock 'N Roll spirit. True human nature.
Gilbert is a Beast
Gilbert is the guitarist I would take to a duel with the Devil. He is possibly the most versatile guitarist ever.
@@anabelauribe9793 Gilbert was a beast when he was still a teenager!
Well said
The egos don’t need stroking! With that said Gary sounds freaking awesome!
extreme big theater
well put..:)
Hahahaa 😂

RacereXtreme..Big theater 🎥
Extreme big dog 🤣
paul plays rock, blues and metal...amazing paul
That was one of the best jams I've heard ever, damn. Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan together were in serious beast mode on this one.
I love watching The Who Playing this at the isle of Wight. Gotta check it out. This is also a great tribute👍👍
Portnoy! Having to much fun. Cherone is awesome. Who else you gonna get? Sheehan..a master. And Paul Gilbert guitar. One of the best. They have 4 different cover acts. Who,Zep,Rush and the Beatles. I was fortunate enough to enjoy the Chicago-area stop on this short tour. They were awesome!
Ladies and GENTS: This is a song that was covered by The Who on 1970's 'Live at Leeds" album. This is not a Zeppelin song. This is an amazing cover of an amazing cover. These guys were obviously playing this in the spirit of The Who...And, they do a fooking brilliant job of it!
thedeadonmusic1, Good call! Even at 05:40, Mike is playing with his right hand just like Keith did!
Yes, but they sound like Zeppelin doing it, with Chris Cornell on vocals. I think that's what people were getting at.
Yeah he's mocking Pete Townsend even
The drummer is phenomenal
Now who did the fuckin original?
Thats freakin awesome
That singer sounds so oldskool, love it!
Kornuit Hildr, good call! You know who that is, right? The singer from Extreme, plus one of the Van Halen albums. 🙌🏻
My friend from Malden, Massachusetts, USA, Gary Cherone.
As a 40 + year '00' and having seen them twice. 20 years between gigs. The last one in 2009 having been the very best rock concert I have attended. This tribute has just blown my fucking mind. Thank you to you all.
Gary Cherone !! how one could sound like so zeppelinous....
Who?
Agree.. 👍👍👍
WHO? He is paying tribute to Roger Daltry.
oh man!! I can feel the rock and roll running through my veins right now
This guy can SING
AMAZING! Gary Cherone rules!
great pipes by Gary cherone
Yeah there we go, SG appears on the stage and all hell breaks lose!! In one word AWESOME!!
You can simply taste the personality these guys broadcast...!!!
Paul and Billy are a powerful duo. I saw a Mr Big show and they match perfectly!!!
Wholly crap! Billy Sheehan is freaking amazing! He ripped it up and John would have enjoyed the hell out of this I'm sure!
This is such great live video footage! I watch/listen to it pretty much every weekend sipping a beer or a whiskey
...if not the next weekend haha

Not too many people can do this song justice in the world...They pulled it off...Consummate Pros!

That’s Red Hot! I’m so happy The Who Live at Leads is being played so awesomely. 👍

Amazing Journey needs to be the most famous band in the world right now!!!
Gilbert is so versatile. He plays that genre perfectly. Cherone is great and never gets his due. The whole thing is a fun tribute to The Who.
Great version! Gary was Real impressive too! Thanks for posting this!
just f...ing BEAST MODE! (to quote Michael) LOVE IT!!!

Billy+paul+portnoy=Damned great Musician!!! amazing
cool‼️
Sounds like cool old school stuff. Legends
First time listening to this band.... I'm spellbound!!!
All are talented, but who plays like Sheehan? Really no one!!
I agree. I havent heard a bass player who sounds like him.
Yeah he's definitely always had his own sound. He can shred like a madman, but he never makes it sound bad or overdone, and knows when to play in the pocket.
depends on the type of headphone you have.
...the guy's a beast. I can only hope to play a fraction as good as he is. Thank goodness for the tube that allows us to see these dudes in action. Cheers
@Dale Griffim ...I thought we were talking about 4 string gunslingers here...and you include The Who's guitarist??
Just damn! How’d I end up here? These guys good…
hey, give some credits to gary cherone of extreme..nice vocals
Ya YAH
I find it very satisfying that even when you put togeter the world's best musicians, they not even can come close to the synchronized sound the Who had back in the day. Good effort tough.
Love that SG Pauls playing......
Had to come back and hear this again. All i can say is WOW !!
WOW!!!! Billy is playin' like a man possessed. I'm sure the "OX' would give his blessings. Rock on!
top notch musicians right here! Bad Ass Billy!!!
it's amazing how portnoy gets into characther when he covers another band, he plays just like Keith here, the poses, faces and all.
Holy cats!! Some how this is the first time I've seen this perfect tribute jam to the WHO!! My day is made!!
It doesn't get much more "super group" than this!
Them Crooked Vultures.
Jake Hoffman Fuck off
Justin Smith What if I said thw Winery Dogs?
That's better and I apologize, but you can't even begin to compare these guys to Them Crooked Vultures.

Three of the best music makers in the world in Sheehan, Gilbert and Potrnoy playing in one band who could ask for anyhing more? Brilliant stuff.
Love paul's accent !
I remember buying a CD of Billy Sheehan bass lessons I got his one I got Jaco Pastorius both of them were like looking at music from outer space
Damn good upload! Thanks!
Great to see Mike play like Keith Moon and sound like John Bonham! Love it! Great footage!

I would bet without knowing for sure that Entwistle was indeed an influence of Billy's ✌🏼️
Wow. Just wow!
Damn Portnoy does a good job, even keeping up when Gilbert goes off the rails s bit during the solo.
I like how Paul looks like Pete Townsend here.... haha
Headphones, clothing, SG yes !
These guys are fuckin great!!!!
Not Fair. You guys would blow the Who off the stage. Thanks - I so enjoyed this!!
You must be f'n high to think that

@@judeconig9324 okay
I would love to see Paul, Billy, and Mike make an original tune, I can't even imagine how awesome that would be!
As awesome as all these legendary musicians are, I kinda wish that Gary had more time singing. I was waiting for more verses and maybe a part where the tune rides into a groove.
Live at Leeds masterpiece . Well done!

This was done for three shows only I saw the Chicago show. Kicked total ass just as this does.
Shawn Michaels on the bass and Mick Foley on the drums, good work, they killed it.

Rey Misterio on the bass (Racer X)
and shaggy (scooby doo) on lead guitar

Wow, this is a fantastic cover by 4 masters!
Love Billy's bass playing, right now I'd say he's the best in the world that still actively plays in bands.
We first saw Billy with Talas around 1976. Knew THEN that he would go places. An ABSOLUTELY over the top bassist. Love from Buffalo NY.
Just extreme talent each one!👑🤘💪🎸
I like how people are so amazed by their being no hi-hats on the kit. if they knew anything about The Who they would know that Drummer Keith Moon(RIP) rarely used hi-hats and when he did he usually played them open anyway.
Who?
its a dream? billy, Paul, Mike and Gary awesome yeaaahhh!!!!
GARY CHERONE from Extreme on vocals.
Ahhh,, Just noticed this. Yes i put my eyes on him. My ears so familiar with his voice.
so much talent on both sides of the stage
"everything louder than everything else" - Ian Gillan
@MrGenericdrummer he is Gary Cherone, ex singer of Extreme and Van Halen...this group is a tribute to The Who, formed by mike portnoy
I don't understand why you didn't put Gary Cherone name in the title, he deserved it in my opinion.
People have been denying Cherone his due credit for 25 years now.
Ryan Long Make it 28 years.

Gary is shit
He made extreme a chit band but with awesome instrumental
He did it to van halen
And he did it to Paul Gilbert
Troll BS
