Simon was loooooooog overdue to join. The previous guitarist was totally wrong for this band's genre of music and I am staggered he wasn't replaced much sooner. He's a brilliant guitarist - don't get me wrong here! He was just wrong for DP.

I saw Jethro Tull live twice, during the Crest of a Wave and Catfish Rising tours. A tight band; Doane Perry, Dave Pegg, Don Airey, Martin Barre, and Ian Anderson!! His body of work with so many bands is stellar, Ozzy, Sabbath, Brian May, Wishbone Ash, and Rainbow, to name a few.
Steve Morse is a brilliant guitarist whether he is a good fit for DP or not you can't take away his contribution for 30 years. Listen to Perpendicular and get your ear wax cleared first. No offence taken ✌️

Say what you will, they still have Gillan, Glover, and PAICE, so it’s still VERY Deep Purple. Good for them and the hundreds of thousands of fans who still want to witness a historic rock band!
And I may be wrong but don’t think that John would not have a problem with knowing that the also incredible Dan Airey is filling that all important keyboards role in this band. And Steve does fine as well. Richie is never coming back as he has before. I’ve seen him many times and even hav half of one of his Strats from a show at the International Amphitheater many years ago. But Steve has been with them for so many years now that the last tim I saw them many years ago he was already with them. With ALL this said, even tho my #1 and #2 DP albums are IN ROCK and PERFECT STRANGERS,,,,, my favorite actual ERA is the BURN through Come Taste the Band years. Those albums are fascinating to me.

Knowing of my affinity for Deep Purple, a cousin of mine in Europe sent me a photo of a promotional poster for this very show when he was traveling early in July.
He was the most amazing singer, to me, of all the real rock bands that emerged from the 60's. Including Daltry, Plant and the rest. He had so much range and feeling.
It wasn't easy to replace an icon like Steve. Exactly as it had not been easy for him to replace Ritchie, the real guitar hero for DP. Yet, they both could do it. Two great artists we can be proud of
Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord and Ian Paice started Purple, Ian Paice is the only original member who appeared in every Purple band line-up and also the only member who appears on every Purple record. So is it really his band?
Definitely. Something I think people recognize subconsciously but don't much talk about is that Blackmore's playing had this sort of aggressive undercurrent, almost like he's attacking the listener with his playing a little bit. Steve Morse is a great player and has the chops, but he didn't have that aggressive streak. Simon does, and these new clips with him just hit that little bit harder because of it.
Yes i agree .Simon plays in a more british hard rock style than the bluesy style of Steve.Two great guitarists,but for me Simon gives it more edge to the band

I am Steve Morse big fan. Thanks him for the music he recorded. He was on a right place. Right hand desease made him unavailable to play his own technics and parts but he found a new way. Yes, it wasn't so good anymore, but even with that kind of playing he was able to record amazing melodies. He is very talented. This new guitarist is absolute TOP! But if he feets with the old guys? I don't know. Sounds absolutely great, but feels like something wrong. I have all DP albums and of course if they record another one, i'll buy it. Only in this case will be possible to understand how cool is Simon Mc Bride. Live on the stage- he is absolutely amazing i repeat.
Simon is killing it on the guitar! Let's give this guy credit for stepping in some of the BIGGEST shoes in rock... Ritchie and Steve are guitar gods.

Simon is fantastic, to me, he brought back to DP a spark that was a bit lost. No disrespect to SM, a great player in his own right.
No one can beat Ritchie at his prime, but for now Simon is the best DP can get.

Saw Deep Purple for the first time in Flint, Michigan, at the IMA Auditorium, back in 1971. They, and I, are still going at it.
I didn't see Deep Purple there but attended many others concerts at that venue. 🤘
