I grew up in Detroit. My four sisters and I grew up listening to Motown hits dancing in our kitchen to our one radio or dancing on our front porch to them all. We saw all of the groups and singers for free at our state fair in Michigan every year, including MJ with the Jackson Five!!!! Love the Tempts!❤
If you don't feel this song, you don't have a pulse! This is why I'm still listening to the old stuff. The majority of today's music doesn't make me feel ANYthing. 😢
Just my imagination, I wish it would rain, Ain't to proud to beg, You're my everything, The way you do the things you do, Papa was a rolling stone....Good songs! ❤
The Temptations sound was more pop focused in the mid sixties compared with its later funkiness, with songs produced by Smokey Robinson and friends, such as "The Way You Do The Things You Do", "Since I Lost My Baby", and the iconic "My Girl". Then Norman Whitfield wrote songs for them, like "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", "Get Ready", and "(I Know) I'm Losing You". After that they went "psychedelic" and dropped "Cloud Nine", "I Can't Get Next To You", "Ball Of Confusion (That's What The World Is Today)", "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)", "Papa Was A Rollin Stone", "Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)" ... PS. James Brown fronted his own band entirely separate from Sly & The Family Stone. James Brown was from the Piedmont region of Georgia and South Carolina. Sly Stone was from San Francisco Bay Area.
One of the rawest, hardest things the Tempts ever put down. And yet, it was a #1 hit on the pop charts. That era saw so much more diversity in the top of the charts than you see today. Far more variance of styles and the public was superior in accepting differing styles than the narrow-minded ears of today (mostly shaped by the far more money-centric labels that run the business).
These guys are unmatched for their vocals, funk and groove. I know it's a little early but I just have to say that their version of Silent Night is my absolute favorite. If you can write yourself a note somewhere to come back to it when the season approaches, that would be dope. I'll try to remind you in a few months, or, you can just do it now. Any time is a good time to get spiritual!
Definitely my favorite soul, R and B group. From the beginning to the end, none were better. Wait, did you say you never checked out Sly and the Family Stone? You have to, they started it all. They started the rock/soul leading to funk. Now you talking my favorite group ever.
Temptations were the #1 male vocal group from Motown. The Supremes were the #1'female vocal group. David griffin was the lead for many years until he left the group. More songs: I've got sunshine On A Cloudy Day. I Wish That it would Rain. Papa Was A Rolling Stone. Cloud Ninr. The Way You Do The Things You Do. I'm Loising You. Ball of Confusion. And many more
I’d like to hear your take on a sample of gut-wrenching blues from the era, a neglected sleeper: “Farewell Song” on the album “Live at Winterland ‘68” by Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin.
This was Norman Whitfield's attempt to duplicate the theme of Smokey Robinson on "I'll Try Something New", which the Temptations covered in their first album with Diana Ross and The Supremes but was first done by Smokey and his Miracles. The exchange of lead from one member to another, as well as the psychedelic feel of the song was something they got from Sly & The Family Stone. This was a big one for The Temptations who became the number one male singing group in history! Dennis Edwards took David Ruffin's place but held his own! For the record, The Temptations were known for writing their own backgrounds regardless of who produced them. To my knowledge, James Brown and Sly Stone NEVER did anything together but they were both incredible artists in their own right!
It doesn’t get better then this, I listen to this back in the day, but I think this type of great music didn’t last into the 90s, my opinion, keep playing this band
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Ball Of Confusion and Papa Was A Rollin' Stone and so on... 😎

Love this tune - they were a great band.
I love the "My Girl" side of their career. I love this side even more.
Classic jam!
Psychedelic Shack That's Where It's At!
My favorite song from them! Thinking about Motown, have you done Cruising by Smokey Robinson? My goodness, but the man’s voice is silk!
Killer tune! Their albums from this period is soooo damn good.
How do you go from great music like The Temptations and devolve into disco and rap.
Great group

Can't go wrong with the Temptations
The Temptation movie was great! And the greatest actors ! Love all their songs! I grew up in Detroit and Motown music was the best.
Check There’s a riot goin’ on by Sly & The Family Stone! Legendary album!
Definitely my favorite soul, R and B group. From the beginning to the end, none were better.

Excellent. Temptations were masters of R&B, and yes so influential to later music. Soul, Blues and R&B are timeless.
Yay! ❤
Dancing around the whole dang house with this song.

Check out what Al Green did with this song, totally different vibe, but equally great.

I appreciate it when reactors do a little research before they react to a song
