I'm never in my life going to refinish an antique tub, but these videos are so awesome that you can't just not watch it!
I have to laugh when Rich lifts up the air mask to see better! The guy really needs better ventilation to shoot epoxy paint.
For real. I’m a professional and I do this for a living. This was a horrible example of how to execute this project. No jokes, brain cells were lost this day. And that over spray sticks to EVERYTHING.
When things were at their very worst:
2 Suns, Cross in the sky, 2 comets will collide = don`t be afraid - repent, accept Lord`s Hand of Mercy.

Richard was so happy when he finally had a chance to help out. U can tell the other guy is a straight up introvert.
@@Kevin-mp5of that guy genuinely felt the way that he did weather it was scripted or not. I c ppl like this all the time in the trades who r socially awkward and he fits the description of one.

wow, shooter mcgavin is reglazing tubs now.
I had one in an apartment and every tenant hated getting in and out and cleaning all around it. It took 3 shower curtains and a ceiling mounted shower curtain rod to contain the water from the shower. I eventually gave it away and it was in perfect condition and over 90yrs old, Huge decorative claw feet and still no one wanted to pay even 10 bucks for it. That thing worked and sucked, all at the same time.
Sad I would've paid for it :/

I know nothing about sending a small probe to Mars and I would love watching someone working on all aspects of that. So again what does how easy something is have to do with enjoying someone performing said task?
@@Kevin-mp5of , I follow what you’re saying now. This is after all the show this old house. I still enjoy watching someone good at what they do and no this is probably not any more difficult than me refinishing my fiberglass shower. Lol.

How do I prep the outside / old paint- rust if I don't have a sandblaster? My inside is ok-
I don't know anything more revealing about our degraded consumer expectations then standing in a modern tub.

I want to know: having a g/f that dyes her hair, will that stain the new finish? And do they do mobile (my tub ain't coming out of that 50's bath)?
Yes and yes. But if you wash the dye off right away no problem. If you dont you will have to wet sand it off.

They all say it will last about 10 years, but what do you think guys?
Is it maybe more realistic to expect it to last only a few years actually?

If you close your eyes, you’ll think the tub’s being refinished by Cliff Claven.
Respirators during the spraying but i guess Richie's lungs are safe from all the v.o.c.'s as soon as the application is done, the clouds of overspray are harmless don't ya know. Maybe he's got stories of an uncle from the 20's who applied the original porcelain on tubs with a cigarette in his lips.
Too bad we couldnt see it up close with lights

You guys should be wearing full face masks. Once that epoxy is atomized, it can get in your tear ducts.
Did he say hydrochloric or hydrofluoric? I am sure it’s not Hydrofluoric acid!
Did he say hydrofluoric acid? Yikes! Don't try this at home, that stuff can kill you.
He sure as heck did. Yikes is right!
He has to be mistaken. HF Acid is highly dangerous if it comes in contact with the skin. It can be deadly if contact is made and not treated immediately. We would wear full chem suits, fresh air when working in HF acid units.
@@therustyblades1212 That's what I was thinking. But I don't think they misspoke. I expect that is the sort of acid you'd need to use for this type of process. I just expect he's being incredibly unsafe about it.
Miss Molly says it can be refinished to look like new so Steve Lav can give his girlfriend a bath later !

The coating is solid. Just like you'd expect factory paints cars, jet plane paint, ship and ocean liners or concrete swilling pools. Economical way to freshen it up. The surface can be recoated with hand sanding. I dont think this old bathtub (house) would post the video if it wasn't legit.
