Mechanics don't get paid enough, I've been doing basic stuff all weekend hunting down a misfire and my background is in healthcare- hats off to the real gearheads, I do love it but it's so time consuming and frustrating.
I love the scope work and your informative approach! My 16 4.3 175k had a little squeak I thought was a pulley or alt, then gradually developed a rough idle after 100 mi, to a more severe idle & after 800 mi, it hindered drive idle & cel but waiting on dealer’s schedule. Solus showed Cyl 2 misfire & at the 100k count, 6 on 3, 13 on 4. Plug was fine, coil fired. Drove it to the dealer who does our fleet & they say bent cam. 9k for overhaul. Do these cams historically bend? It’s a highway truck only with dealer oil changes. Should we just do a top end or are these trash that way?
Thanks for watching! I have never seen a bent cam not that it would be impossible. I think I would lean towards a similar issue as this truck where the lobe of the cam is worn off. Pulling down to the lifters should reveal what's happening
Thank you! What a compliment! I was raised on a farm, in high school I took collision repair, went to college for auto repair, worked in 3 different independent repair shops before going out on my own. But picked up all kinds of different knowledge doing all those things. Thanks for the comment!
I have a 2010 hhr it has a random misfire engine light po300 and 171 I changed injectors, plugs, coils upper o2 sensor and maf sensor. This mechanic I took it to after I did those changes he said it's doing it cause you need to use no ethanol gas? So I need to buy the expensive gas he said yes. When I tell others bout wat he said they 😂😂. I think it's the fuel pump. But just trying to get your thoughts.
Help me P05D P0300 No. 8 misfired, but now No. 1 and No. 7 AFM lifter has been replaced I tried replacing the IG coil, but there is no problem. The engine shakes and makes noise like a tick No bend in pushrod What should I do?
Awesome work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Dang would have never thought you would have to pull the engine to replace a camshaft. Great work!
Thanks, yeah didn't think I'd have to either, big p.i.t.a. but made for a decent video
You don't, it's just easier to get the pan off. Otherwise you have to drop rack n pinion and cross member.
How long could he have driven it with just a misfire at idle and what potential damages could happen if not replaced when identified?

Thank you! Much appreciated comment, big learning curve with auto repair that many don't realize
Nice job

Have you ever tried using a tuner like HP Tuner to tune your own truck?
I do use hp tuners for tuning my own vehicles
I can't believe the stuff you do in that little shop. Where did you learn everything? You seem to be knowledgeable about stuff

How much will this repair cost? Having same issue with my 2011 Silverado 😢
I would estimate a minimum of probably 2k
Would that be with parts and labor ?
To be such good engines they're sure made with trash parts.
Amen, you got that right!
Did the customer did DOD delete
They did not
How many miles were on that truck
150k
