  • Just like skinning a cat there are many ways to get the job done. Being a professional shop I will typically use the tools I have at hand to diagnose in the most efficient way possible. However, in this video I use a combination of techniques to help us find the fault. Just remember, there is no wrong way of doing it if you end up with the correct answer. However, there is usually a more efficient way to do things. -Enjoy!

Like when I used to do winterizations on RVs, everyone had an opinion on the right way to do it.
I would tell them that there are many right ways but there's only one wrong way to do a winterization.
If the pipes freeze up, then that was the wrong way.

Hello P0300 my old friend. 2005 Chevy Express 4.8 with a random misfire. We replaced 8 plugs, all wires, #4 coil (dead); both sides upstream and downstream O2 sensors. Still a P0300 at freeway speed. The operative word is 'random'. Finally we replaced the crankshaft position sensor. Our Technician complained that the 'relearning procedure required accelerating the engine to 5,000 RPM: High 'pucker factor' on a 23 year old truck. My old friend P0300 went away. Now, a year later, my old friend is back. The only sensor that could add to the misfire condition is the camshaft position sensor. Since that requires R&R the intake manifold, and the oil pressure sensor is also located near the camshaft position sensor, we ordered one of them as well. Here is a valuable tip: On the camshaft position sensor, there is an 'O' ring at the very bottom. When that rubber 'O' ring dies, it allows motor oil to leak behind the engine into the bell housing frequently mis-diagnosed as a main seal failure. It can't be confirmed until the engine and transmission are torn apart revealing a main seal that is perfectly intact and the leak coming from a $30 sensor. (Ugh!)

When I was a crew chief in the AF, we had a radar issue we could not duplicate on the ground. Eventually we removed each component in the system, leaving only the wiring harness. Then each component was placed on seven different aircraft, with plenty of documentation. Then it is just a matter of time to see which aircraft picked up the original issue.

The way injectors are set up nowadays to make it real hard to bench test and injector in other words pull it out and check the spray pattern they do that for safety reasons so people don't burn up their cars because they don't have enough sense that you don't spray fuel on Sparks and on the motor not good combination I know I burned a truck up and put the fire out and rewired it and drove to work the next day or the day after I should say it's amazing what you can do when you got to get to work to pay for parts for your truck have a great day

In all honesty we don't know that the bad injector was the ONLY problem. We just know it was the one they couldn't find. There could have been multiple problems, and those are the cases that are a real pain to diagnose.
