- David Sanborn, an influential saxophonist, who found success across the genres of pop, R&B, jazz and more, died Sunday.
He was 78.
“It is with sad and heavy hearts that we convey to you the loss of internationally renowned, 6 time Grammy Award-winning, saxophonist, David Sanborn,” reads a statement on his social media accounts. “Mr. Sanborn passed Sunday afternoon, May 12th, after an extended battle with prostate cancer with complications.”
It is in his honour that we commemorate this great musician who passed away Sunday, with this performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 1997.
The Legends ( Eric Clapton, Marcus Miller, David Sanborn, Joe Sample & Steve Gadd): 'Full House'. Live from the North Sea Jazz Festival 1997 from the Congresgebouw, The Hague, The Netherlands
Legends is one of the most musically accomplished supergroups of all time. With Eric Clapton on guitar, Joe Sample of The Crusaders on keyboards, virtuoso saxophone player David Sanborn and super session players Steve Gadd (who played with Paul Simon and James Taylor a.o.) on drums and Marcus Miller on bass, both of whom have done time in Claptons band, the groups pedigree is extraordinary.

David, Eric, Joe Sample, Marcus Miller & Steve Gadd, legends is an appropriate name for the band.

RIP mister sanborn 😢
Indeed.
And also Joe Sample since this was performed.
So great this has been uploaded. I wore out my VHS when it was broadcast in the 1990s and I learnt that Clapton solo note for note. Legends indeed...
I remember it being shown then too. Show also featured some Madeleine Peyroux.
