Drove this up to Chin Swee Temple over the weekend. Had sufficient poke and agility to tackle the inclines. The engine note is pleasant to rev in Sport mode. May not be a GTI but it's good enough for weekend jaunts.

I have the 2017 model with the r trim,and paddle shifters,had mine retuned by revo tuning and a 200 cell downpipe,best 1000 pounds I’ve ever spent,transformed the car,just want a good light set of wheels now,great review,it’s a nippy car but with a tune and down you are near gti performance

Normally you can instinctively feel if a driver is good and safe sitting beside him even at furious speed. This is one such driver.

30 years ago during your time, a VW GTi with a 1.8 liter hatch is classified as a "Hot Hatch" even when it has less than 150 ps. Fast forward, today, a 1.4 turbo with 150 ps/250 Nm is just a "normal" car. Time has certainly changed ya bro!
Hi Mikey, yes, times have changed. Go back even further, and the Zakspeed Ford Escort that was super fast on Batu Tiga track was 137 horsepower. The first car I raced had only 60 horsepower.

Hi Gerard, I still have the Mk6. It's a 1.4 two charges TSi, 7 speed DSG, 2010 model, done 90,000 km, still in very good condition. Had the transmission mekatronics changed and clutch changed under warranty around year 4, no trouble until now. Car drives fine, no other problems. Oh yes, passenger door hand grip rubber kind of melted, so looking for a replacement part.

Nice driving uncle YS! Just want to know. When manually changing gears with DSG, should we let go of the throttle or just pedal it?
The DSG senses your wish through the throttle pedal. For upshifts, keep the throttle on, so the system will have the next higher gear pre-engaged
For downshifting, lift off just before shifting so the system will engage a lower gear.
For example, if you are in third, and accelerating up, the dsg engages 4th in readiness. So your upshift will be faster.
However, as you approach a corner and brake or lift off, then the system guesses you want to shift down, so it pre-engages 2nd gear, anticipating that you want to shift down.
So if you dont shoft downa md instead, accelerate again, then it goes to4th and waits.
I’m waiting for uncle to bring the new r line 1.4 with the 8 speed aisin gearbox wanna see how that performs
Hey Khong, what do you think is faster up Genting out of the Golf 1.4tsi and the Mazda 6 2.5L? (190bhp odd model I mean that you tested a while back) Both sit in my driveway and was curious :)

Is this Golf Mk7.5 1.4 dry clutch or wet clutch?
I heard that all the Golf 1.4 has the gearbox issue, what is your comments regarding that?
After driving Golf 1.4 and if u drive a Honda or Toyota 1.5L, do u feel that they are very underpowered because they are 90% all non-turbo?
What if u compare it to driving a Civic 1.5L Turbo?
Heard that it is not as Shiok because of the CVT, therefore driving the Golf still feels better, what do u think?
Dry. And it is not true that all 1.4 have problems with the gearbox.
Whatever car you fancy, just go and test it yourself, and choose the one most suited to your taste.
Uncle Ys Khong, i have this car and it's 16k km to date, sometimes encounter a little jerking when pressing on the acceletor from stationary. Did you encounter this when test driving the car?
It might be the dct - what it needs is a hard drive and it will go away.

They are very much the same. The 7 is good enough to enjoy.

Not really.
so u prefer this one or mazda 3 ?
The Mazda 3 runs a NA engine and has 163 horses, with a 2.0 engine. It is also a bigger car. It would be a tough decision, could swing either way.
Golf 1.4 tsi similar to Jetta 1.4 tsi s mode but with better radio and virtual cockpit
Yes. This one has a newer platform than the Jetta and handles even better than the Jetta, and the Jetta is also one of my favourites. Thanks for watching.

It would be faster than the 1.8, and will have a good fight with the turbo.
u know what they say , almost all VW products are journalists favourites , but owners nightmare....had a jetta before , its even faster than this since it was twincharged rather than single turbo charged..but the steering way too light.....but my oh my the service centers and the flimsy electronics , and u will know by default how the DSG works since so much of its contents was being replaced...
Hmmm, actually the Jetta handles very well. Perhaps yr steering issue is due to poor alignment. Toe in would make the steering very light. Most alignment shops don't know about toe out for fwd cars.
