We did the exact same thing! vacate the SQ lounge for the ANZ lounge, we were the only 4 visitors and the lovely Staff member gave us our own personal boarding notice.
Going to fly from Melbourne to Shanghai via Singapore airlines on NYE, I find ur video very helpful especially the air New Zealand lounge access. Cant wait to go on Singapore airlines!!!
Great review Cal! Glad to see a fellow F1 fan! Loved your clear but wholesome commentary! You’re making it more convincing for me to switch my energy to building my Velocity points more with that Singapore cabin and service! 😅
Great review thanks you! Am about to fly tgis product in a few weeks, dis not know about the lounge access to air new Zealand! I cant find any information about getting wccess to it online anywhere. Do we just show our SIA boarding pass at the lounge?
Enjoy it! One of the best seats in the sky! They generally won’t advertise the lounge access part as it costs them money when you use a partners lounge, but just walk in and scan your business class boarding pass :)
Just a correction - SQ do offer a pre-flight champagne on this service - you just have to ask for it. Has nothing to do with the taxes or duties on alcohol, but more to do with the time of day...
Thank you! It was a stir fried meal so its part of it, might've looked a bit sad but it was delicious! And yes to seat it quite short when sitting upright, but in Bed mode I couldn't touch the end & I am 6'1
All of SQ’s flights from Melbourne and Sydney use the long haul product! All other Australian cities use the regional product. So it’s better flying out of the big 2.
OMG thank you for making me save a trip to the KrisFlyer lounge there! I’m flying to Melbourne next month and was horrified seeing review of the lounge
I just have to be flying business with Singapore Air to use the NZ lounge? I have zero status with Star Alliance and wanted to make double sure. Thanks for the video, great review
Yep! As long as its a business ticket you shouldn't have a problem using partner lounges. Ive had quite a few people let me know that it worked for them since I posted this!
Thank you for a great review! We sat in the same seats last month on same flight! Thank you for the tip about using the NZ lounge. SQ lounge is ok and definitely better than the Amex Centurion lounge next door!
Great review mate. Im from Melbourne also and plan on using the awards seats in future. How far in advance did you book and was it a Economy booking that you later upgraded or straight off the bat? I saw you used Velocity points as opposed to Krisflyer, didnt know you could do that. Couldnt find info on any of that but will be sure to browse through your videos! Thanks again
Thank you! This was a Business Reward seat booked through Velocity with Velocity points, we booked this around 6 months out from the flight date. I would recommend against trying to book economy and upgrading, as it is only possible with that airlines own points (Singapore can only be upgraded with krisflyer miles, not Velocity for example) and it doesn't guarantee you anything. If you check out my most recent "how to use velocity points" video and skip to the redeeming part, that explains how you can use velocity points to book business seats on partner airlines like Singapore, United and Qatar using Velocity points. If there is anything in particular you need help with, let me know!
Great review! I’m surprised you didn’t get wine at pre-departure - it was served from Sydney last December but on A380.. maybe different rules depending on plane?
Loved this. Doing this flight next month Melbourne Singapore Tokyo and the food looks amazing. The sleeping footwell is what I am worried about being 6’2”. First world problems.
What is the difference between the long haul product and the regional product? I'm thinking of flying on Singapore Airlines from Adelaide to Singapore for a concert on New Year's Eve. Thank you for the informative video!
The regional is a more-standard 1-2-1 staggered layout, I actually quite like the seat for daytime flights and mid-haul for anything overnight needs to be the premium seat! (As I unfortunately found out on my way home from this trip!)
Hmmm SQ offers good service and the 350 is a great plane, i just don’t like the seat. That footwell and the angle one has to adopt is rather confronting and you do feel exposed on the isle.
@@pointyend-secrets the bulk head seats are straight and have a much bigger opening so if able to book those definately makes the product perfect. I believe they maybe harder to book sometimes unless PPS club with singapore airlines (luckily we are and we manage to get the bulkhead seats nearly every flight :) )
Nice review. As for the champagne on the ground I believe it comes down to what time you are departing. They won’t serve alcohol on the ground until a bit later in the morning.
Very comprehensive review. Thank you for the information regarding using the air new Zealand lounge at Melbourne airport. I wish I had of known that 3 weeks ago when I flew from Melbourne to Singapore. I'm not sure how tall you are but I found the footwell when the seat was in lay flat mode way too small and cramped. I actually went back to the regular seating mode it was that uncomfortable. However the service as you said was amazing. Did you use Velocity points or have you transferred some to Krisflyer and is it worth it?
The Air New Zealand lounge is one of the best things I have learned! Sorry you spent all your time with SQ! I do agree the footwell was quite small and had to be on the right angle t o make it work! 67,000 Velocity points! Transferring devalues the points, works out slightly cheaper to just book with Velocity
Very good flight. It looks like the aircraft you flew in was a Long Haul a350. I flew the SQ A350 (Medium Haul) from Singapore to Guangzhou in economy. The medium haul aircraft doesn’t have the live TV. However the in flight entertainment was outstanding - they display innovative features including the latitude and longitude, tail rego, date of flight. As well you can browse through nearest cities and get the information (Population, elevation, the time and distance from flight). You can also watch the Movies simultaneously whilst lookingg at flight map. Fun fact: the medium haul runs under Thales avant, while the rest of a350 (long and ultra long range) have Panasonic.
Interesting! Ive had so many people have different experiences! Not sure now weather its to do with taxes, or liquor Licences, or time of day or what! What time was your flight scheduled?
So when I fly SQ business, I can use air NZ lounge in Tullamarine airport?? That’s great coz SQ lounge in Tullamarine is too small and quite uncomfortable.
Thats correct! Any Star Alliance Airlines business class ticket should get you entry into any Star Alliance Airlines Lounge! They wont advertise this though, as it cost the ticketed airline so they rather you use their own! Agreed about the Tullamarine airport though, I always use Air NZ!
Ripper review Like you a very big SQ fan . However, out of Perth WA, we get the Regional A350 config and or the 78710 I actually prefer the A350 though. Often I jag the same crew coming and going PER to SING I go cattle class then up a notch if onto EU Being ex aircrew I show my appreciation to good cabin crew by in pack pack have little gifts and nice thank you cards . You would think they got the crown jewels by some of the happy reactions. Being cabin crew is a hard gig But SQ and even Scoot do it very very well and professionally. EVA Air is another of our favourite carriers. I have written off QG EK and TG and QATAR is now also a dog's breakfast. What may prove interesting is the future arrangement of Fin Air crews slotting into the QF flights out of oz next year which could be a clash of service standards :) SQ Finnair and EVA for me 100%
Yeah Ive had the regional config a few times, I quite like it but it is miles different from the Long Range! Nice work on showing the love to everyone, you're right in that its a tough gig sometimes! Finnair vs Qantas will be quite a tale!!
There is absolutely NO WAY you paid that price unless you are a platinum status velocity member! Also let us know how much money and flights you had to get to that status! Not so easy is it mate?!
Gday! You're right, I am a Velocity Platinum member. I have achieved this consecutively for about 8 years now. This was due to my job as a Touring Sound Engineer, flying around 90 times a year domestically and a handful of times internationally, majority if which are with Virgin Australia and its International Partners. But I almost never paid for my flights, these were paid for by the Artist or the Promoter. In more recent times, with my in-laws living in Brisbane, we also travel from Melbourne a few times a year, and make sure to have our Family Pooling set up (which you can find a video about on my channel) so that my partners points and credits go to my account, to help me maintain Platinum. With all of this said, being a Platinum member holds no benefits in terms of getting Reward Seats, and the points used for paying for them. The vast majority of our points come from Credit Card Sign Up Bonus' (80k-100k at a time), Ongoing "Points-Per-Dollar" Earned on those credit cards, as well as the large extra sign up bonus' you can get on things like Car Insurance and Energy Bills. These are what get us 400k-500k points per year to spend on these trips. If you check out my extended "How to Earn and Use Velocity Points" video, that might get you the insights you need to learn how to get these kinds of points on money you're already spending, no Platinum Status required.
Sound cuts out at 5 min 37 secs. Did anyone else have this problem? Really good up to that point.
Sorry about this! Been an ongoing issue with TH-cam's Copyright!
Yes I could not hear it
We did the exact same thing! vacate the SQ lounge for the ANZ lounge, we were the only 4 visitors and the lovely Staff member gave us our own personal boarding notice.
It is a far nicer lounge and something that a lot of people have taken my advice on and been wrapped with the results!

Salute to your fine F1 taste mate! And great video!
Hopefully this is a better year for my beloved Mercedes!
Excellent reviewer! I think one of the best. What's with all the noodle and daggy veg for the main? Seat looks really short.
Thank you!

I realised this after my last flight being out of Adelaide, wrongly assumed it would be the same, but happy to be surprised by this!
Amazing contrast to your Qantas video! :D
Isn't it just!
Do you use krisflyer points or velocity points for this flight?
Velocity Points!
Great review thanks! Particularly the middle seat option when traveling with a partner!
Thank you! I have another video on the 777 Business with the same seat coming out soon!
Fantastic review love it, thank you

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! The footwell is kinda interesting, I didn't have a problem sleeping on my side, are you flying overnight?

Was your costing at the end $3182 return or just for one way?
Hi, the cash price is $3,182 one way. But I Booked this with 67,000 Velocity Points and paid $236AUD in cash for the taxes.
