  • Video showing you how to trouble-shoot/rebuild any Honda B-series manual transmissions.
    In this case my tranny wouldn't down shift from 3rd to second gear.
    Will show you how to replace OEM to Carbon synchros at the same time.
    If your gears grind this video will show you how to replace synchros and check the sliders.
    B16, GSR and LS transmission

    Another good video. As a car enthusiast learning to work on his transmission, I like how you got a clear image of the wear. Makes it easy to understand the visual cues when looking at yourself.

    Brave dude not lining up them friction dampers on 1/2 lol

      Can u elaborate?

    • @OVTEC91
      @OVTEC91 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes on 1/2 gear selector hub there is 2 damper rings that key into respective slots cut into the hub itself. If they’re not lined up right it can cause bind . I pulled hundreds off these apart with the second damper ring”feet” smashed or entirely missing.

    Thank you for sharing. Knowledge and experience is invaluable.
    My fear is getting the orientation of the gears, bearings, synchros mixed up.
    A good practices is when removing the gears from the shaft is to, say removing from your right and flip the gears over to your left onto the bench. Just a consistent way to remove so you know how it goes back together.
    Also, assuming it was not a lsd, you were so close to just adding the inexpensive lsd blocks that go for as low as $30 on ebay, into the differential (that big gear to the left of the gear stacks.
    And finally, if you're not going around a race track, downshifting is an expensive way to brake. So don't downshift unless your brakes fail.....also when you are in the car shifting, putting your weight or leaning on the shifter affects the life of the synchros as well. Usually 1st and 2nd.....

      I want to get the 1/2 drive 450 ft lbs driving power and 650 ft lbs "of nut busting torque" and then the 3/8 stubby that's rated for 250 ft lbs and then the right angle impact rated for 220 ft lbs of "nut busting torque" and iv seen a very well done review/test of the right angle impact and 220 ft lbs is exactly what it can break loose.

    Question for ya… I have an S80 LS trans, several hard parts are bad so I found the two shafts with all the gears for sale online I’m excpellent shape. When I tried to install the 2 new shafts of gear sets the one that drives the differential is a very tight fit with the new gear sets. I counted the teeth and they are the same as the old one the backlash to the diff gear is way to tight. Do I need to use the original shaft and swap all the gears over to it since there is no changing the contacts pattern position or backlash adjustment that I am aware of

    Carbon lined syncros pose no advantage at all. They are no more then a sales gimmick. Honda owners hear carbon and they go all goo goo over it. Don't buy into it.

      Yup and that’s why all performance Honda transmissions started coming with carbon lined units in the later years because it was a sales gimmick. Yup yup
