In this video I go over the two HDMI auto switchers I have used the most!
I bought these with my own money and was not paid to say anything I am saying in this video!

I have a fairly simple setup with a tivo, Nvidia shield, and roku. I have a 2015 TV and only one input fully supports hdcp 2.2 so only my Roku could do 4K for apps like Disney and Amazon. I wanted my Nvidia Shield to support 4K on those apps on my shield like the Roku does so I had to get a HDMI switch. It claimed it would auto switch but I'm using CEC. It's a very simple CEC setup where if I hit any button on my shield remote it flips the input to The Shield. If I hit a button on the Roku remote it flips the input to the Roku. Same for the TiVo.... TiVo doesn't really matter because it's limited to 1080p so I got an HDMI switch to connect my shield and Roku so they can both share the single hdcp 2.2 input available on my 2015 TV.....
I was tired of not getting full 4K output on my shield which always requires me to flip over to my Roku just so I can see 4K quality with specific apps that need hdcp 2.2 present.
This is where things go weird. The switch does work with the included remote and I can use the remote to manually flip between the inputs but all the CEC features are broken. My Samsung 2015 TV does not recognize the HDMI switch. It only recognizes my soundbar and my TiVo so those work like they always have but is there any way to have auto switch feature work with a setup involving the Roku and Nvidia Shield?
I think the auto switch is not properly switching or detecting them because it's in a sleep mode I guess instead of actually powering on and off so it's kind of always on breaking the auto switch feature of the HDMI switch.
Since it does not detect the HDMI switch now I have to manually flip to the input using my TV remote with the switch, then select which device using the switch remote...
I achieved my goal of getting full 4K output for all the apps that require hdcp on all the devices by sharing that one input that spec but are there HDMI switch devices that can easily handle Auto switching with CEC detected as well or is CEC kind of broken on all of the HDMI switch hardware?

I have a similar issue where certain devices stay in "sleep" so the switch things it's still actually on.
this is the only real drawback of this kind of device.
You could try adding just those 2 devices to a second switch, daisy chained to the other switch you are currently using.

This ^ could work, but you might have to try multiple 2 in 1 out auto switchers until you find something that plays nicely with the sleep signal.
If you do try that, please report back and let me know!

I have a nvidia box coming from a one hdmi port to a switch from my tv. I also have a firestick 4k attached to one of the ports on this switch. the other hdmi from my tv is where my main cable box goes to my cable box. How can I use a remote to switch these different boxes. With the nidia box I was told yo use one of the ports and this is wired eternet from my router. Can I use the remote for this situation?

The remote will only switch between devices that are on and sending a signal.
If you turn on a device then it will auto switch that that input.
If the device doesn't turn off, then you can use the remote to switch between inputs that are active. The remote will work if you have line of sight to the switcher.

Can you please tell me I've got a TV with two HDMI ports, I have a Blu-ray player, cable, and a sound bar connected.
I would like to add an Amazon fire stick.
Is there a big difference between an HDMI switch that is automatic or not?
    What's your preference?
    Please help
    Cheers-kathy

There's no big difference. They will both work if they are functional.

This all seems like rocket science to me. My tv only has 3 hdmi inputs and I have an xbox series x, nintendo switch, nintendo wii u and an nvidia shield I use all the time. I switch the hdmi cable from nintendo switch and the wii u back and forth when i switch systems I'm playing. I also bought a 4k blu ray player that will need to be hooked up. My question is will one of these hdmi splitters hurt the performance of the 4k movies I watch or should I have the 4k player hdmi into the tv itself?

You will see no quality difference when using one of these switches. As long as you have good cables there will be no issues.
Constantly plugging and unplugging cables can cause wear and damage to the HDMI ports and eventually lead to expensive repairs.
