    Great idea to make a video for the care giver! I am 14 weeks out from rotator cuff repair, so for the most part can do what I need to for myself. But, those first 6 weeks, until the immobilizer comes off, you are so dependent on someone to help you. It was very eye opening to realize how much I couldn't do.

      @@nadialittenstein332 I was petrified, too. And originally, when I first got injured & learned I would need surgery (about a year ago now, it was right before Christmas), I was NOT petrified. But I live in such a "nanny state" here in the U.S., they would not o.k. my surgery unless I agreed to have someone STAY here at my home (I did not.)The nurses said, you MUST have someone there to HELP! I had already been getting by with one arm in a sling for weeks- I mean, it's not like you go out & know you're going to have an accident! This was not elective surgery!I just learned to adapt.I told them I had neighbors who could help me out & look in on me, but with adequate preparation of having food ready for the first week after, having put my meds into containers I could easily open, & getting some clothes I could easily put on & take off, etc. I really did not need their assistance, except for rides to the dr. appointments & to the grocery store. Also, everyone told me how "horrible" the pain would be- it wasn't that bad. In fact, I filled the scrip for oxycodone, but did not need anything stronger than over-the-counter pain meds. And my recovery moved right along. I did PT & am now back to working, & I do physical work. And I'm in my sixties...So I guess my advice is be confident & don't let people make you scared about this. A lot of getting through is psychological, not just physical. Hope this helped, sorry it's so LONG! 😁

      @@nadialittenstein332 I live alone too, I've had 2 surgeries on my left shoulder in the last 18 months and I'm about to have my 3rd on the 13th December. After watching some people's video diaries I was worried too, but I didn't need to be. My first surgery was planned as a supraspinatus repair and possible bicep tenodesis but when I woke I found out they had discovered my labrum had torn and reattached itself in the wrong spot so they had done a Bankart repair instead. My recovery went well and I was up and out doing countryside walks in my sling within a week. Due to covid lockdown my physio got delayed and my shoulder started to freeze up, while waiting for a second MRI to confirm if a manipulation under anesthesia would be required I was involved in a rear collision in my car 🙄 the MRI showed a clear tear in my supraspinatus so this was added to the MUA for my second surgery. However once inside my surgeon could not see the tear from the portals used for the MUA so it was decided to let my shoulder heal un frozen. That was March this year so I'm now booked in for the supraspinatus repair and bicep tenodesis I expected for my first surgery 😂🤦‍♀️ mines been a long road, and I'm a huge scaredycat when it comes to needles, blood, even the thought of the operation. But the surgeries were nowhere near what I was worried about. I'd stocked up food and ice, pain meds expecting to be stuck during lockdown, and being prepared helped. Know where your going to sleep, bed or chair etc, get your extra pillows ready and easy to get on and off clothes. I also found watching the actual surgical procedures taken via arthroscope showing the actual inside of the shoulder really informative and alot less gory than I had anticipated, and made the surgery more objective than subjective. The worst part for me is them trying to find my veins to administer the anesthesia as they struggle each time. You may well be kerpt in overnight for the first night if you have no one at home to be with you. If that's the case the nurses will take great care of you. I wish you well in your repair 🤞

    I didn't have a pre-op visit with my surgeon. I was called by an assistant to the surgeon with the MRI results and told the surgeon thought that a tendon repair was necessary because I had a large tear that was retracting and that it would not get better without surgery. I agreed and a date was set, and I was told that a nurse would call me with the details. I met the surgeon 20 minutes prior to surgery and feel that I went into surgery unprepared for what lay ahead. Was told to expect to be off work 6-12 weeks and at 9 weeks I have little strength and have very poor external rotation in my surgical arm. So frustrated!

    • @rotatorcuffexpert
      @rotatorcuffexpert  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Teri, I would be frustrated too! The communication is lacking. I really try to have the surgical conversation with the patient personally. I have a great PA, however that is not his role, it mine. Communication before surgery is super important. I hope our channel has helped some in providing information. Good Luck and don't give up hope.

    Almost 2 years ago i had the rotator cuff surgery on the other shoulder. It wasn't a fun time at all.
    Things this time had seemed better, and especially in regard to sleep and night pain, until the last couole if days. Surgery went well but we didn't question about what to do after surgery and medication. I couldn't take oxy even though profen 800mg. I have in pain. I decided split half ibuprofen to 400. I may not get the surgery that I have scheduled in 2 months after watching several videos. I had bone spur surgery in my other shoulder and it went fine. Easy recovery. But I do have a tear in this shoulder but it is a partial tear I've had for years with no pain and 95% full ROM. I live alone and would have to rely on friends for help. Why is the bone spur surgery so much easier?

    • @rotatorcuffexpert
      @rotatorcuffexpert  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Riod, I am not sure that it is really that much easier other than there would be limits on what activities you can do with your shoulder if the rotator cuff was repaired. In my patients with a low grade tear, no pain, and almost near full range of motion it would be hard for me to recommend surgery. Good luck and let us know how you are doing!

      Anthony, that is a great question. It is hard to quantify the difference. It is more but how much more it is hard to say. I would mention that whatever is going to give you the best outcome is worth it. I am very comfortable doing most of my surgery arthroscopically, but not all surgeons do.

      Hey Jeffrey, You can try an immobilizer. They are velcro'ed on. It would be more restrictive than a regular sling and would be harder to get off. Check with your surgeon to make sure that it would be ok.
