Imo Tulsi das might not be a mathematician.... But duh he lived in india, housing many learning centres, he could just go to any gurukul or buddh vihar and ask them to make a guess. So that he could add it to his poem. At same time giovanni cassini discovered the solar distance as well.
But chalisa is utterly useless in this regard. If i as a student read the chalisa, i won't learn anything from it, it just tells the solar distance but not how to calculate it.. contrary, cassini's papers mentions the process, how to use parallax, trigonometry and maths to get the aprox distance, this is what's useful.

Solar distance is not always same cuz earths axis is elliptic. So neither tulsi nor cassini could give the real numbers, and both of em were way off from actual numbers.
