And I was such a metal head too... weird times those adolescent years. Still, I wouldn't mind my having my 17 year old metabolism, but if it means taking my 17 year old brain, I'd rather just stay 44 and keep eating healthy. But man when I was 17 I was able to turn pizza and pepsi into solid muscle. It was like I was a ninja turtle with my metabolism back then, now I gotta eat healthy lol.
Along with Pink Floyd's "Brain Damage" ("The lunatic is on the grass...), flowing into the song "Eclipse" proper. We WERE on the "dark side of the moon." However. as Roger Water's said, "There is no dark side of the moon. It's all dark." Guess that's why staring at the sun was more fun.
Critics are a waste of time unless they are discussing a song or album from a subjective musical point of view rather than whether or not they personally like it or not. I say the same thing for film critics, literature critics, art critics, television critics, theatre critics, etc. Taste is personal. We all have a unique likes and dislikes. Of course it's OK not to like U2 or anything, but I sometimes find that some critics use their dislike of a particular musician to make 'witty quips' and swipes at any given band or singer. Other than Holding Back The Years and If You Don't Know Me By Now probably Fairground that I personally hate Simply Red's music. But I don't leave boring comments on their TH-cam videos or deny that Mick Hucknall is a great singer
Nobody makes a guitar sit in the song like this anymore. So many different textures and tones. The Edge has left a ledger for all future guitarists to build from when everyone is ready to revisit U2's music in the coming years. His sound still is more modern and unique than how ive heard guitar being utilized in pop music for many years. Theres so much unexplored territory for guitar as an instrument, and our technology is so much greater and more advanced than it was when the Edge was laying down these takes, and look at what he was able to achieve. Imagine what we can do now, if the right person pushes the envelope.

It just seems like a few songs that happened to crop up at the same time in a "we've got to put out an album, oh, this'll do" sort of a way. Even the band admit that Pop was never finished to their satisfaction.
The media and critics couldn't get past the glitz; people that actually listened tend to appreciate the songwriting and craft on that album. I've always liked Pop, but now if I reach for a U2 record off the shelf I'd listen to Pop more often than probably three-quarters of the band's output. And I still love every record until No Line.
I agree. I stayed away from this album for years because it got such bad reviews. Bought it recently and am blown away. I think it's as good as Achtung Baby. I love all of the dissonance and distortion. It has a beautiful sound. For me, Joshua Tree is their "prettiest" album but I love Pop's complex sound even more. 🙂

This U2 song contains the right mix of smooth vocals, lush 90s rock music and expressive lyrics. I am very glad that this song is easily accessible to listen to online because it is far from common for me to hear this music gem on the radio (considering that the last time I heard this song on the radio was during the 90s).

I used to work in a hotel as a receptionist like 4 years ago, we have a u2’s bossa nova playlist at the lobby. I liked u2 2000s songs but not the old ones, don’t know why, shame on me, but there was a versions of Staring at the sun, bad, one, Sunday Bloody Sunday, etc. So that i started to sing then every time; So one day I decided to check all the original version of the songs and got impressed by all of them. The guests used to sing the song and some of them asked me about the music.

I Remember the summer 1997 very well....i was 19 years old and did my Military 9 month Service for the german army. The summer was endless, no sorrows and i played the Pop Album so loud along with depeche mode's ultra over and over again every sunday afternoon while i was driving to the barracks.great memories and this song is Just awesome

PopMart was the first concert I saw of them back in the 90's. I can remember it like it was yesterday. Though I have seen them perform loads of times since it still remains my favourite concert.
Not many songs can make you feel as nostalgic about the late 90's as this one, and get you slightly melancholic about how come time does not go back and how lucky you were to grow up / be a teenager back in those days

I'm so happy the POP videos are getting remastered, on it's release it must have stayed in the player for about a year, anything else couldn't get in. It really is a great album, I saw them on this tour at Leeds as well I think the price was about £35, what a good price to get your mind blown for 2 and half hours.
