    Hey bro I’ve had trouble with it still clicking after replacing the starter. My terminals are good and the battery is as well. I’ve been told it’s the ground, but don’t know where it can be located

  • @sambust3293
    @sambust3293 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    How did you troubleshoot car to see of it was starter. My car won't start the instrument panel goes crazy lights going off and clicking noises. Im testing battery now.

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you are on the right track , sounds like a typical battery failure. If the battery is more than 5 years old its good possibility. You could charge it back up to make sure and see if it will hold charge. Could be something drained it down or charging problem even with the alternator.
      With my starter the first thing I did was charge the battery and try it . Bascially it didn't flicker or do anything . I confirmed it with a bench test. However in your case with the flickering lights thats most definitely sounds like a battery problem. Best of luck and thank you for watching.

    Thanks for the video. I replaced the starter today, and the car has now started, but I got a "transmission fault" error - any idea how that could have happened?

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would start with any codes , and check all the fuses. If no transmission fault before , it is most likely a fuse or wire , possibly connector lost contact. Hope this helps.

  • @frankmontez6853

    One more thing - the rubber seal that goes in between the starter and engine fell out. Looks a lil worn. I didn’t know at first what it was but looking at videos on starters can now tell that’s what it is. Looks a bit worn chewed up a lil. Just what does it do ? How important is it ? Should I get a new one or use the old one ? Maybe tack it back on with something like caulking so it’d stay on better?

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically it is a spacer. It fills in the space and keeps dust/water out. I had to replace one of those as well . That rubber dry rots over time , any oil eats it up. Luckily I found one at a salvage yard in good shape . I would imagine dealership item , but it may not be very expensive. Hope this helps.

    Tow truck on it way . soo looks like starter OEM at that gave out after only four months . Should be under warranty and only labor cost . Sooo what it was doing and I've never experienced this but it was starting before but with a hard BANG ! It was rough like a hard engaging the flywheel . Ever heard of this before ?

    • @s33therfan

      @@s33therfan that starter again went bad. Like mechanic said who replaced it I should drill a drain hole for oil leaking from main rear seal so that could save it. Less than two weeks it was having starting problems again so knew I had to drill that hole. Drilled it Tuesday but too late. Here I am trying to remove it. Almost had it then rain stopped me.

    I’ve 2016 SE and looks like oil got in bad rear main seal. It’s not the first one unfortunately. But just a few days ago drilled hole in bottom to drain oil. What do you think how it made the starter from working? I’m thinking taking it off then taking it apart try to use brake cleaner it might work ? And as for the drain hole keeping the next starter from getting oil in it ? About to try this.

    • @s33therfan

      @frankmontez6853 ปีที่แล้ว

      @s33therfan Just took starter off and it looks clean . No oil at all . This mechanic who replaced them before on my car ( twice now ) said to bench test it . Kinda unexpected that . I wouldn't think it could work . Just run jumper cables directly to which termimals ? . It's been a while since I did that ..

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats strange , maybe bad batch of starters. I have heard flex plate issues , bent , wrong etc eating up starters. Bench testing is pretty easy with jumper cables , black on body and red on main power supply. Then carefully jump to the 12 ignition stud. A lot of times I just use a screw driver. Autozone has a better tester and can test it under load , I believe. Hope all goes smoothly.

    • @frankmontez6853
      @frankmontez6853 ปีที่แล้ว

      @s33therfan took it to that mechanic. Bench tested it there and looks great. So he said gotta be something else like a bad loose cable or battery though mine just got new one less than two months ago. He said he only once found a burned positive cable. So rare because they’ve Soo thick he said. My battery like I said is pretty new and no corrosion at all.

    • @frankmontez6853
      @frankmontez6853 ปีที่แล้ว

      @s33therfan I took it off myself this time around but strange that mechanic who’s taken it off and replaced it said that that tin metal bracket that goes on the outside of it that wires are connected to this bracket but there were none when I took it off right ? He must be getting confused with some other starter??

  • @frankmontez6853
    @frankmontez6853 ปีที่แล้ว

    When I removed it , I don't think iit had a cable like yours attached to that bracket . At least I don't think it had it just remove 10 MM nuts then the 13 MM ones Ok saw when removing cables from starter terminals that ione end of cable went to alternator

    How long did it take ? I just paid a mechanic to do it $60 plus starter . He's been verry good and honest above all . Very reasonable and it's working just as before . I have had timing serious problems which he mostly fixed . Still a lil stalling when I accelerate . I told him about it and he said sometimes they gotta relearn certain things on its own . ? God I hope so . Went on 175 mile road trip when I got it yesterday

    • @s33therfan

      @@s33therfan Had to replace it again . It had oil on gear . Is it possible that oil could be coming from the top ? I'm asking , because it did have oil when he took it off on enaging gear the one engaging flywheel . Said that's why it failed in a year and a half and will do again . Said it was rear seal . Took it to another mechanic said it's not rear seal but top valve cover .leaking into starter . Soo you think there's some space a lil gap enough for it to leak into starter or it's sealed pretty tight ?

  • @infotube6335

    I turn the key and it clicks a lot even when the key is off. Would that be the starter? My battery is good.

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would check all the connections and clean the terminals and post first then go from there if the battery is fully charged. You can bench test the starter with jumper cables and a good battery or take it to the parts store like auto zone just to make sure before you buy another. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

    • @s33therfan

      It most definitely will be causing your issue . You could fix it with another wire and connector or simply buy another harness . Heres a link . Thank you for watching.
      Look at this on eBay

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is not wanting to crank over then yes , if its cranking but not starting then there would be another issue . The starter wire/harness I shared in the link would be the best way to fix the issue long term . They run 25 used . Thanks again.
