- Living on a Tug boat is in one of the coolest things I’ve done so far in my Merchant Seamen career. From working on cruise ships in Hawaii, to sailing around Korean and making stops in Japan. Working & living on a tug boat is completely different and cool in its own right. Hey Trey I have a question about ship contracts. I was just wondering when your contract is up on a ship can you renew it or get another contract for another ship right away. I keeps seeing all these videos of guys saying the completed a 4 month contract and then took 6 months vacation. Is that because they really wanted that long of vacation or could they just not get another contract. Is it feasible for a person to complete a contract and leave the ship and jump onto another ship within a few days? Or even stay on their current ship?
Do you know what the starting pay for people that work on tugboats on the ocean versus mainland?
